"You're going out?" Leng Jing stood quietly at the door, looking down at the two of them.
Zhai Cheng was a bit angry about her disappearance, so he didn't even want to bother with her words. Thus, he remained silent.
Song Ge nodded and replied with a polite smile, "We're going out for a stroll. Do you have something to say?"
Leng Jing's expression was slightly solemn. It seemed that she indeed had something to say.
Smiling meaningfully, Leng Jing nodded non -committally. "I do have something to say. Let's finish talking about the important stuff first, and then you can go for your stroll."
After saying that, Leng Jing walked past them and directly entered the living room. From beginning to end, she didn't even glance at Zhai Cheng and Song Ge again, as if they were complete strangers.
Song Ge and Zhai Cheng exchanged a look, and both saw a hint of unease in each other's eyes.
Leng Jing was acting strangely today. Her return would surely bring them something unexpected.
When they entered the living room and sat down, Leng Jing was already looking at them as if preparing for a negotiation.
At this moment, she seemed so strange that it was hard to believe.
"Where have you been these days? Why haven't I seen you at all?" Zhai Cheng's face looked rather grim. Because of his anger, his tone wasn't very amiable either.
Leng Jing shrugged indifferently and dodged his question skillfully. "I have my own things to do."
The subtext was that she was doing her own things and thus didn't need to tell him.
"So many big things have happened at home. Aren't you even a bit concerned?" Zhai Cheng's anger flared up even more. He asked with a straight face.
These days, he had been busy with the funeral arrangements. Although he didn't have time to look for her, it didn't mean he was unaware.
Leng Jing scoffed and coldly ended this topic. "I'm not here today to be lectured by you, Uncle. I'm here to claim the shares that belong to me. We can talk about other things later."
"What shares?" Zhai Cheng asked in confusion.
He had no idea that he owed Leng Jing any shares. But judging from Leng Jing's reaction, it seemed that there really was such a thing.
Not only was Zhai Cheng surprised, but Song Ge was also looking at Leng Jing in astonishment, waiting for her explanation.
Leng Jing smiled enigmatically, and her cold gaze drifted between the two of them.
After about a few dozen seconds, she suddenly changed her expression. Looking at Zhai Cheng with a half -smile, she said, "Uncle has a rather poor memory. When my family entrusted me to your care, there was an agreement. Have you forgotten?"
Zhai Cheng frowned and began to recall the situation at that time.
So much time had passed that he couldn't quite remember clearly. Moreover, Zhai Qintian and others were also present at that time, and he hadn't paid much attention to this matter.
Leng Jing didn't urge him but quietly waited for him to recollect the ins and outs of this matter.
"Uncle usually has a good memory. How could you forget such an important thing?" Leng Jing smiled again, looking utterly innocent.
After smiling, she lowered her head and rummaged through her bag for something.
She handed a stack of documents to Zhai Cheng and explained mysteriously, "This is the document we signed back then. Uncle, take a look and you'll remember."
If she hadn't vaguely remembered this matter, she probably wouldn't have made use of it now.
Zhai Cheng picked up the slightly wrinkled document curiously and started to read it carefully.
Song Ge also leaned over to read with him.
"How could this be?" Song Ge skimmed through the document and was so shocked that her mouth almost dropped open.
The document clearly stated what had happened.
Zhai Cheng looked at the document calmly, trying to verify its authenticity.
"Uncle, stop looking. This agreement is genuine." Leng Jing interrupted him with a laugh.
"When my family entrusted me to you, they invested money in your company." Leng Jing smiled casually as she played with her newly -done nails and explained, "At that time, we also agreed that when I grew up and got married, those shares would be returned to me as my dowry."
Zhai Cheng thought carefully about whether there was such a thing. For some reason, his face became a bit grim.
After a while, he slowly admitted, "I remember. There really seems to be such a thing."
Leng Jing looked at Zhai Cheng with a beaming smile. "I knew it. Uncle wouldn't deny it."
She said this on purpose, leaving no room for Zhai Cheng to back out.
Since she had said so, Zhai Cheng surely couldn't renege on his promise. Although it was highly likely that he would abide by the agreement, she still needed to take precautions, didn't she?
Hearing this, Song Ge also understood what was going on, but she always felt that something was off.
It had been many years since Leng Jing was entrusted to Zhai Cheng. Over these years, Zhai Cheng had been diligently managing the company. The company's market value had multiplied countless times, and the initial investment must have also grown into a substantial amount.
"Why do you have such an expression, Miss Song? Don't tell me you're trying to renege on the promise?" Leng Jing sized Song Ge up disdainfully. "You're not even married to Uncle yet. Even if I claim the company's shares, they don't belong to you."
Song Ge was furious. She sneered and said, "Do you know how hard Zhai Cheng has worked for the company? How can you claim the shares so casually?"
When she first met Zhai Cheng, she was shocked by his dedication. The company was built up by Zhai Cheng with his blood and sweat. How could Leng Jing say such things today?
Leng Jing nodded matter -of -factly. "I know. After all, I've spent more time with Uncle, and I'm more aware of how much those funds have increased."
That was exactly why she had been living here all this time. Otherwise, she wouldn't have stayed here being bossed around by Zhai Cheng for no reason.
Zhai Cheng looked up and stared directly at her, lost in thought.
"Uncle, I'll be honest with you today. If I hadn't seen those funds multiplying so quickly, I wouldn't have stayed here instead of moving out." Leng Jing was enjoying looking at her nails and explained nonchalantly.
If she had moved out, those shares would have been returned to her. But she knew nothing about business at that time. The funds would surely appreciate faster in Zhai Cheng's hands than in hers.
Actually, thinking about it, she was quite suitable for business.
Realizing this, the smile on Leng Jing's lips grew wider. Even her nails seemed much more beautiful than usual.
Hearing her explanation, Zhai Cheng's face suddenly darkened. It wasn't because he had to return the shares to her, but because of her calculated plan to make the funds appreciate.
So, this was the real reason why she had refused to move out.
