Song Ge went to work as usual without giving it much thought. It seemed that everyone had simply forgotten about that incident.
"Let's have a dinner together tonight. Song Ge has been with us for so long, but we've never dined together," someone suddenly suggested.
Instinctively, Song Ge declined. "I'll treat everyone next time. Let's call it off for today." She really just wanted to go home and rest.
"Better do it today than choose another day. Let's just do it today."
"Yeah."
Some people were egging her on.
Helpless, Song Ge had no choice but to agree. After work, a group of them went to a nearby hot - pot restaurant.
Song Ge wasn't really fond of spicy food, but seeing that everyone wanted to eat hot - pot, she didn't voice her opinion.
The whole table sat together, and the atmosphere was really good.
Song Ge only took a couple of bites and then sat aside sipping her drink. Suddenly, the man sitting next to her picked up a piece of meat and put it in her bowl.
"Seeing that you haven't eaten much, have some more," the man said with a smile.
Song Ge instinctively shifted her body, moving a bit farther away from him because she felt he was too close.
The man also shifted his body and moved closer. "Song Ge, do you have a boyfriend?" Actually, he had fallen for Song Ge on the first day she joined the company, but he had never dared to make a move. Finally, he had the chance today.
Since his voice was very soft, no one else heard.
Song Ge instinctively glanced at her colleagues around and lowered her voice. "I already have a boyfriend." She didn't want this to spread in the company.
"But why haven't I ever seen him?" the man pursued.
There was undisguised disgust in Song Ge's eyes. "I don't think I need to report my boyfriend to you, do I?"
The man felt a bit embarrassed and didn't dare to talk to Song Ge anymore.
Song Ge was already in a bad mood, and now she felt even less like eating. So she left early.
Just as she stepped out, someone called her. It was the male colleague from before.
"Song Ge, let me drive you home."
"No need," Song Ge looked at the taxis outside. "I'll take a taxi myself. I think I made myself clear just now."
"I don't mean anything else. I just think it's not safe for you to go back alone."
Song Ge had a straight face, but she didn't want to make the colleague relationship too tense. "No, thanks. I'll take a taxi."
As she spoke, a taxi stopped in front of Song Ge. Without thinking, she got in.
Unexpectedly, the man quickly got in too and closed the door.
"What are you doing?" Song Ge was really angry now.
"I just want to drive you home."
The taxi driver was a bit impatient with their argument. "Are you going to take the ride or not? If not, get out!"
Song Ge had no choice but to say, "Drive, please."
The man was happy that his plan had succeeded.
Throughout the ride, Song Ge didn't say a word and hugged herself tightly.
The car stopped steadily outside the community. Song Ge quickly paid the fare, got out of the car, and without giving the man a chance to speak, she rushed into her house.
Mother An was in the living room. Seeing Song Ge rushing in so flustered, she asked, "Did you see a ghost? Why are you so panicked?"
"It's scarier than seeing a ghost." Song Ge still felt creepy just thinking about it. But it would be even more embarrassing to meet that man in the office tomorrow. "I'll go rest first."
Song Ge went back to her room. With a trembling hand, she took out her phone and called Wu Yilan.
"Why do you have time to call me?"
Song Ge told the whole story indignantly.
"Damn, your love luck is really good," Wu Yilan summarized in one sentence.
Song Ge almost spat out blood. That wasn't what she wanted to express! "Fine, I'd better go to sleep." She hung up the phone.
She tossed and turned and couldn't fall asleep. At some point, she gradually drifted off.
Maybe because she didn't want to go to work today, Song Ge dawdled for a long time before going out. When she got to the company, she braced herself and walked in. When she got to the office, she was relieved to find that the colleague who had approached her yesterday seemed not to be there.
"Hey! Why did he leave too? I heard he was going to get a promotion."
"Yeah, it's a bit strange. What's going on recently? People just leave suddenly."
They suddenly looked at Song Ge and then averted their eyes. "It seems that everyone left after getting close to Song Ge."
All their conversations fell into Song Ge's ears, except for the last sentence. She thought about it carefully and also found this whole thing strange. So she took the initiative and tried to get in touch with other male colleagues in the company. However, they all avoided her as if she were a flood or a ferocious beast.
Song Ge realized that something was wrong. She wanted to approach the male colleagues actively, but it seemed that no male colleague in the company was willing to associate with her anymore.
But soon, Song Ge's experimental subject appeared. A new guy joined the company. He looked young, probably just out of school and here for an internship.
Song Ge took the initiative and put the breakfast she had brought in front of him. "This is for you."
The boy was very surprised and then touched because he didn't expect to feel such warmth after leaving school. "Thank you."
"Do you really thank me?" A glint of cunning flashed in Song Ge's eyes.
The other guy nodded like a chick pecking rice.
"Then treat me to dinner."
The guy readily agreed. Song Ge was very happy that her plan had succeeded and went back to her seat.
The other colleagues around all sighed. They wanted to remind this new guy but in the end, no one stepped forward.
At noon, Song Ge went out with the boy.
Song Ge deliberately paid attention to see if there was anyone acting strangely around, but there wasn't.
At the restaurant, Song Ge ordered the dishes. The boy was shy throughout the whole process.
After the meal, Song Ge and the boy went back to the company and continued to work in the afternoon.
Actually, Song Ge already had a guess in her mind, but she still needed to confirm it.
The next day, sure enough, the boy who had had dinner with Song Ge yesterday didn't come to the company.
Everyone immediately pointed the finger at Song Ge and avoided her.
Song Ge was even more convinced of her speculation. She found a chance to go to the restroom, took out her phone, and dialed that number without hesitation.
The other side answered the phone quickly, and a hearty voice came over. "What's up?"
"Zhai Cheng, aren't you being childish?" Song Ge didn't ask if it was him. Instead, she just said this.
A soft chuckle from the man came through the phone. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."
"Stop pretending. I know everything."
The man's smile became even more obvious. Song Ge clutched her phone tightly and was almost angry. "It took you a whole week to figure it out. You're really stupid!"
Song Ge didn't say a word. It was really him. But she didn't understand why Zhai Cheng did this. He clearly didn't want her to do something before. So what was the point of doing all this now?
