"What are you doing?"
"Driving." Zhai Cheng paused for a moment. "My dad has agreed to let me go see Zhang Yao. Come with me."
Song Ge was quite surprised, but then she thought it was reasonable. "Okay."
Zhai Cheng hung up the phone and drove to Song Ge's house.
Aunt An and Song's father were not at home, so when Zhai Cheng arrived, he went straight inside.
The two sat in the living room watching TV.
Zhai Cheng was still arranging for his assistant to find out where Zhang Yao was living now so they could go there.
After Zhai Cheng had arranged everything, he put down his phone, glanced at Song Ge, and then reached out his hand. Just as he was about to make the next move, the door suddenly opened.
Aunt An was also quite surprised to see Zhai Cheng. "Why are you here, Zhai Cheng?" Then she gave Song Ge a slightly reproachful look. "You didn't even tell Mom."
"Auntie, it's okay. I just came to pick up Song Ge. We have something to take care of."
Aunt An put down the things in her hands. "Why don't you stay a while longer? Dinner will be ready soon."
Afraid that her mother would delay Zhai Cheng's business, Song Ge turned off the TV. "Mom, we still have things to do. We'll leave first."
"Okay then."
"Auntie, I'll come over to eat your cooking next time."
Hearing this, Aunt An was extremely happy. "Okay, okay."
Zhai Cheng took Song Ge and left. Just as they stepped out of the door, he received a call from his assistant and learned where Zhang Yao was living.
"Let's go."
After following the navigation, they stopped outside a somewhat desolate villa. Song Ge and Zhai Cheng got out of the car.
Song Ge was a bit confused. "Are you sure it's here?"
"Yeah." Zhai Cheng reached out and took Song Ge's hand, and the two walked towards the villa together.
Before they got closer, they saw an old man in the yard trimming the redundant branches of the trees. His temples were gray, and he looked rather desolate.
Zhai Cheng turned his back to control his emotions and walked towards the man.
Hearing the sound, Zhang Yao put down the scissors in his hand and looked at Zhai Cheng. Tears welled up in his eyes uncontrollably.
Seeing him like this, Zhai Cheng's nose twitched, and he almost cried.
"Why are you here?"
Zhai Cheng didn't say a word. This man looked much older than the last time he saw him.
Song Ge stood aside, silent.
Zhang Yao knew he had done a lot of wrong things before and felt ashamed to face Zhai Cheng.
"Can I come in and sit down?"
Hearing this, Zhang Yao thought he had misheard, but Zhai Cheng was already walking towards the villa.
Zhang Yao quickly followed, looking like a child.
As soon as Zhai Cheng entered, he found that there were many kites of all kinds in the living room.
Zhang Yao quickly put away the kites in a flurry. "It's a bit messy."
"What are you making these for?"
Zhang Yao's hand paused. His eyes became kind, and he sank into memories. "I remember seeing you once when you were a child. You were playing with a kite at that time and even cried because the kite was broken."
Zhai Cheng frowned slightly. He suddenly remembered going to the nearby park to fly a kite with his mother, but he had never seen this man before.
"So, you made all these for me?"
Zhang Yao knew that no matter what he did now, Zhai Cheng would think he had ulterior motives. "I was just bored and made them for fun." After a pause, "You haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll cook now."
Zhang Yao went into the kitchen, and sounds came from inside.
Zhai Cheng walked to the kitchen door and looked at the man with a somewhat hunched back. He felt inexplicably sad.
Zhang Yao stood on tiptoe to reach the chili peppers on the top of the cabinet but couldn't get them.
Suddenly, a hand appeared. Zhai Cheng easily took down the chili peppers and put them in Zhang Yao's hand. His tone was strange. "Don't you know your own age? You should be more careful."
Zhang Yao was stunned for a moment and then smiled.
"Do you need me to do something?"
Zhang Yao was just about to say no, but he swallowed the words back. "Could you peel some garlic for me?"
Both of them were silent.
Suddenly, Zhang Yao spoke up, his voice choking. "I'm sorry. I haven't visited you once in all these years, and I haven't fulfilled my duties as a father. I'm not a good dad."
"Since you know that, be good to me from now on." Zhai Cheng said casually.
Zhang Yao stopped and stared blankly at Zhai Cheng, carefully pondering what he had just said. Finally, his eyes were full of tears. "You, you're willing to recognize me?"
Zhai Cheng put the peeled garlic cloves into a bowl. "What else?" After saying this, he looked around. "What else can I do?"
Zhang Yao was extremely happy. "Wash this."
Standing at the door, Song Ge watched the harmonious scene between the two and couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth slightly.
After more than an hour of hard work, they finished a table full of dishes.
Zhang Yao took out his old good wine and poured two glasses. "Today, let's have a good drink, father and son."
"I have to drive later."
Song Ge noticed the disappointment in Zhang Yao's eyes. "It's okay. I'll drive later."
"Come on, come on." Zhang Yao handed the glass of wine to Zhai Cheng.
The two drank happily.
Zhang Yao was a bit drunk, and he started to speak without thinking. "When are you two going to get married? I'm still waiting to drink your wedding wine."
Song Ge blushed and lowered her head shyly. Zhai Cheng took Song Ge's hand. "We'll do it as soon as possible."
"Good." Zhang Yao took another sip of wine. Suddenly, his expression became a bit sad. "I, I don't know if I can still wait until your wedding?"
"What are you talking about?" Zhai Cheng was a bit confused. Just as he was about to ask further, he heard Zhang Yao explain. "I'm drunk. I'm talking nonsense."
After a while, both of them were a bit tipsy. Song Ge stopped them from drinking more. Seeing that it was still early, Song Ge stayed in the villa for a while.
It was not until evening that Song Ge took Zhai Cheng and left.
However, what she didn't know was that as soon as she left, Zhang Yao, who should have been lying on the sofa, got up. He walked to the door, watched the car leave, then sighed and went into the room.
Zhang Yao staggered into the study, found the information about the shares, sorted them out one by one, and then called a lawyer to make a will.
After all this was done, it was getting dark.
He went downstairs, took out a kite, and flew it alone in the yard. Watching the kite fly higher and higher, Zhang Yao smiled. Zhai Cheng would be like this kite, getting better and better.
He tied the kite string to a tree branch, went into the villa, and went to the kitchen. He found a package in a very hidden corner of the kitchen cabinet. He opened it, and it was white powder.
He put it into a cup, added a little water, and after stirring, Zhang Yao returned to the living room.
Zhai Cheng, in this life, it's Dad who is sorry for you. In the next life, let's be father and son again. Dad will surely take responsibility for you.
Zhang Yao picked up the cup and drank it all in one gulp. A smile appeared on his face...
