"It's too late," Jiang Lihao said, looking out of the floor - to - ceiling window. It was pitch - black outside, and the time on the display read 10:37.
"How long will it take to find him? Won't there be any accidents if we're late?" Gu Sisi paced back and forth in the room, looking anxious.
She felt a twinge of regret, fearing that they might have delayed the rescue.
Jiang Lihao walked into the room, opened his laptop. The dim light shone on his face as he studied the latest investigation report.
"Don't be in a hurry now. We don't have to rush. Although we don't know where Huo Cheng is at the moment, I've already sent people to follow his elder sister. So far, there's still no sign of him."
"When will we act?" Gu Sisi didn't waste any more words.
"Early in the morning."
...
Yang Qian heard some noise at around three or four in the morning. She got up to check and was surprised to see Gu Sisi in the living room and an unexpected guest - Jiang Lihao.
Her mind went blank for a moment. She rubbed her eyes and asked in confusion, "You guys?"
"Go wash up, pack your things, and get ready to go," she was pushed back into her room.
She heard right. It was Jiang Lihao who had spoken to her.
"What?" Yang Qian was completely bewildered.
Jiang Lihao gave her a look. Yang Qian looked in the direction of his gaze and saw Sister Sisi packing her things.
"Are we going somewhere?" she guessed.
"Yes. Time waits for no one," she was pushed back in again.
Yang Qian quickly started packing. Although she didn't know what was going on and her mind was still groggy.
When she got into Jiang Lihao's car and saw the pitch - black outside, she was silent for a long time before speaking again.
"Where are we going?"
"To find Huo Cheng," Jiang Lihao finally replied.
Yang Qian looked at Jiang Lihao and then at Sister Sisi. She snapped her fingers, thinking that they must have reached an agreement. But her finger just stayed in the air.
She looked up. "Why do I have to go too?"
"Because you're a great fighter!" Jiang Lihao said lazily. Yang Qian suddenly had a realization and understood what he meant.
She silently looked out of the window. Fortunately, it was dark, so no one could see that her face had turned bright red.
"What a petty man! He still remembers it!" Yang Qian silently complained in her heart. That guy must still be brooding over her repeated obstruction.
The angrier Yang Qian thought about it, the angrier she got. She crossed her arms and let out a soft snort. If she hadn't stopped him back then, he would have been so embarrassed!
Jiang Lihao tapped the steering wheel with a smile. Looking at the other person in the rear - view mirror, he saw that Gu Sisi was frowning, looking worried.
He stepped on the accelerator harder, and the car sped down the empty road.
Yang Qian was woken up from her sleep and soon fell back asleep. When she woke up again, the car was slowly decelerating and soon stopped.
"What's going on?" She struggled to sit up, feeling the soreness in her body.
Gu Sisi gave her a hand and explained, "We still have a long way to go. Let's have breakfast first."
Yang Qian glanced out of the window. It was a luxurious dim - sum restaurant. She slowly got out of the car, rubbed her sore muscles, and then quickly followed the other two.
"What's your plan later?" Gu Sisi asked. Jiang Lihao had been in charge of the itinerary all the way.
"We'll roughly follow Huo Cheng's route first. Although I've already tracked his elder sister's movements, I still feel uneasy. I don't understand why we can't get in touch with him," Jiang Lihao said with a solemn expression.
Gu Sisi took a deep breath. There was indeed a possibility of something unexpected happening.
"You guys order," Yang Qian said after ordering herself. She put the menu in front of the other two who hadn't ordered yet.
"One serving just like hers," Gu Sisi told the waiter.
"Same for me," Jiang Lihao said simply.
Yang Qian's expression froze. Was her only role just this?
After the three of them finished their meal in a hurry and were about to get in the car, two of them got in, but Jiang Lihao stood outside the car, not moving.
Seeing Sister Sisi get out of the car, Yang Qian also followed.
"What's up?" Gu Sisi saw Jiang Lihao's solemn expression.
Yang Qian, not knowing what was going on, followed Jiang Lihao's gaze and suddenly opened her mouth wide. Just as she was about to speak, her mouth was covered.
"Don't say a word. Be quiet!" Jiang Lihao whispered in Yang Qian's ear.
They went back into the dim - sum restaurant.
This time, no one said a word.
Until Jiang Lihao called his company's driver, and the three of them got in the car.
"We've been targeted," Jiang Lihao finally said.
"What happened?" Gu Sisi frowned in confusion.
Jiang Lihao glanced at his car outside the window. As the car drove away, he gradually withdrew his gaze.
"The tires were punctured."
Yang Qian nodded vigorously. She had just seen the deflated tires.
The expressions on their faces became even more serious.
"If there are more unexpected things later," Jiang Lihao turned around from the passenger seat and looked at the two of them, whispering, "try to stay together. It will increase your chances of safety."
"What about you?"
"I'll be fine." Jiang Lihao sat back in his seat and leaned back, apparently closing his eyes to rest.
Although Yang Qian didn't understand what was going on, she felt scared. She grabbed Gu Sisi's hand and whispered, "Sister Sisi, I just feel so uneasy."
"It'll be okay," Gu Sisi patted the back of her hand to comfort her.
Gu Sisi had already felt the seriousness of the problem. She had made the decision to come, but Yang Qian hadn't.
"Maybe we should send you back first?" Gu Sisi looked at the panicked Yang Qian, not knowing what to do. The things to come were unpredictable and might be even more serious.
She was worried. Yang Qian had never experienced such things before. She didn't have to bear this and had no obligation to.
"No, no need. I'm okay," Yang Qian stammered out the words.
Jiang Lihao looked at the rear - view mirror and slowly said, "We can't leave for the time being."
Just as he finished speaking, the car started to drift on the road. The two of them were thrown around, desperately trying to find their balance and grabbing onto anything they could. It took them a while to finally steady themselves.
Inside the car, Jiang Lihao was actually struggling with the driver for the steering wheel.
The car crashed into the roadside green belts continuously. Just as it was about to rush onto the road, Jiang Lihao struck the driver on the back with his palm. He turned around and shouted, "Run!"
The two of them quickly pushed open the car door and stumbled out.
Watching the car thrashing around and the driver still struggling, their hearts were in their throats. Finally, Jiang Lihao opened the car door and stumbled out.
The two of them quickly went to help him and supported him to the side.
Unexpectedly, there was a sudden and violent explosion behind them.
"Boom!"
They looked back, their faces as white as sheets.
It was the car they had just been in. If they had still been inside...
They didn't even dare to think about it.
"What's going on?" Gu Sisi's expression became extremely solemn.
Fortunately, there were no other cars nearby, and they had evacuated in time, so they were hardly affected.
Now there were already passers - by gathering to watch. They were outside the crowd, knowing exactly what had just happened.
"I noticed that the driving direction was wrong just now," Jiang Lihao explained.
Once again, there was complete silence.
The police came, and so did the ambulance, but they couldn't even find the body.
"How are we going to get there now?" Yang Qian shrank back, breaking the silence.
