Before Sister Hu could reply, a voice came from outside.
"I was afraid I couldn't pick out the most suitable accessories for you, so I arranged more," Huo Cheng said as he walked in through the door. He looked like a husband who had just returned home late. Instead of the casual clothes he had worn in the past few days, he had resumed his previous attire - a tailored handmade suit.
After saying that, he walked up to the tray, casually picked out a necklace, walked behind Gu Sisi, and carefully put it on for her.
Gu Sisi touched the necklace around her neck with one hand and looked at the rows of accessories, gaping.
There were so many, and even just one set would look beautiful!
"If you don't like any of them, I'll have someone bring a new set," Huo Cheng's voice came from behind Gu Sisi. The necklace was already fastened. Huo Cheng examined the final effect, nodded, and then picked out another one for Gu Sisi to try on. "Keep all the ones you like."
Gu Sisi didn't struggle but let Huo Cheng try on one necklace after another. Finally, after he made his evaluations, she pointed at two trays and said, "Keep these two trays. Sister Hu, have someone bring a few more sets similar to these two."
"Yes," Sister Hu said and left.
The others also followed suit, leaving only the two of them and the accessories picked out by Huo Cheng in the spacious living room.
"Do you like them?" Huo Cheng asked, the corners of his mouth curving up.
Gu Sisi was a bit dazed. Although she had told him in the car that they should start preparing for the wedding, was it really going to be this soon?
Gu Sisi sorted out her chaotic thoughts, grabbed Huo Cheng's hand, and widened her eyes. "When is the wedding?"
"A month from now."
Thank goodness. It wasn't too fast or too slow. Gu Sisi felt a bit more at ease.
"Is something wrong?" Seeing Gu Sisi suddenly let out a sigh of relief, Huo Cheng stroked the top of her head and asked.
Gu Sisi shook her head and flung off the hand on her head. She frowned, looking extremely distressed. "I was just afraid it would be too soon. I haven't prepared myself yet."
"All you need to do is wait to be the most beautiful bride," Huo Cheng said, his eyes as bright as stars as he seriously looked at the woman in front of him. This was his promise and his vow.
However, this tender and charming atmosphere was suddenly broken.
Gu Sisi suddenly looked up, as if she had just remembered something. She rushed upstairs, saying as she went, "I have to inform the people I've chosen to be my bridesmaids."
In fact, she had already planned who her bridesmaids would be.
Huo Cheng looked at the lively woman and couldn't help but smile helplessly, but his face was full of indulgence.
Gu Sisi threw herself onto the bed, took out the phone that Huo Cheng had quickly replaced for her, turned over, and dialed a number. But after a long time, no one answered.
Looking at the phone, she was a bit confused. She dialed a landline number, but still, no one answered.
A faint sense of unease welled up in her heart, and Gu Sisi's face instantly turned pale.
Both of these numbers were for Yang Qian, one her mobile phone number and the other the landline of the rented house.
Had something happened to her?
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became. Unable to wait any longer, Gu Sisi rushed out of the door.
Huo Cheng was still sitting in the living room. Seeing her running down the stairs in a hurry and heading towards the door, he asked, "You're going out so late?"
Although it wasn't late at night yet, the sky had already dimmed.
"Yeah," Gu Sisi's mind was in a complete mess. She was just guessing for now, but the more she thought about it, the more panicked she became. "I'm going to get some luggage."
Gu Sisi casually came up with an excuse, but it was actually true. Although she had lost some of her things in the car accident and explosion, most of her luggage was still at the place she shared with Yang Qian.
Huo Cheng squinted his eyes, sensing something was wrong.
"I'll drive you," he said. Before Gu Sisi could refuse, he drove the car out.
"Okay," Gu Sisi nodded. Her thoughts were already far away.
She bit her finger and sat in the passenger seat. Beside her was Huo Cheng, his face serious. The panic on Gu Sisi's face was obvious. He didn't know what had happened, but he wouldn't force her to tell him.
When she was ready to tell him, he would naturally share the burden with her.
Huo Cheng stepped on the accelerator all the way, and soon they arrived at the rented house.
Gu Sisi immediately jumped out of the car, getting out in a hurry.
When she opened the door, she found that the house was still in the same state as when the three of them had left.
Her heart sank like a stone falling off a cliff. Gu Sisi searched the house absent - mindedly, rummaging through every corner and even looking inside the wardrobe.
When Huo Cheng came up, he saw her constantly rummaging through the drawers.
He was puzzled and silently watched her search. Finally, she was exhausted and sat down on the sofa with her head down, saying nothing.
Huo Cheng sat down and gently asked, "What are you looking for? If it's lost..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Gu Sisi wrapped her arms around his neck and sobbed, "I'm so stupid. I thought they were okay. What if they're really in danger and waiting for someone to rescue them..."
"I'm such a sinner."
These words were really too heavy. Huo Cheng frowned, realizing something was wrong. He untangled Gu Sisi's arms around his neck and looked directly into her tear - streaked face, saying word by word, "Tell me what happened."
Gu Sisi slowly lowered her head. After a long silence, she finally began to speak.
She started from the time he disappeared and went all the way to the car accident and explosion when the three of them got separated.
"You know what happened after that," Gu Sisi sobbed so hard that her whole body was shaking.
Seeing Huo Cheng's face getting darker and darker, she felt even more ashamed.
"This isn't your fault. It's mine. I didn't handle my own affairs properly," Huo Cheng stood up, his back to Gu Sisi. "Let's go!"
His tall figure disappeared into the dark staircase, and Gu Sisi quickly followed.
Now he was the only one she could rely on.
Huo Cheng called someone with a cold face. He made several more calls, then shook his head and threw his phone aside. "I can't get through either," he said to Gu Sisi.
It seemed that Jiang Lihao couldn't be reached either. Gu Sisi's face turned pale. Had both of them been captured by those people?
"Don't worry. I believe he'll be okay," Huo Cheng added.
It was probably meant to comfort her. Gu Sisi nodded slightly, but she didn't take this overly comforting words as a relief.
The two of them returned to the Huo residence. When Gu Sisi got out of the car, Huo Cheng grabbed her. "Get a good rest. I have something to do tonight."
"Okay," Gu Sisi forced a smile. Her voice was a bit muffled.
She could guess what Huo Cheng would be busy with tonight.
The moon hung on the branches. Gu Sisi tossed and turned in bed all night and couldn't fall asleep.
When she came downstairs, she scared Sister Hu.
"Madam, you look so haggard. What's wrong?"
Sister Hu was extremely worried. She covered her mouth in disbelief.
Sister Hu really cared about her, and Gu Sisi didn't want her to worry.
She casually made up an excuse. "I probably slept too much during the day yesterday, so I couldn't fall asleep at night."
"Oh dear, what should we do?" Sister Hu stamped her foot. "No, I have to cook some good food for you. You've suffered so much. Now that you're finally home, you need to take good care of your body."
After saying that, she turned towards the kitchen.
No matter how much Gu Sisi said "no need", Sister Hu wouldn't turn back.
Gu Sisi sighed. There was a delicate breakfast in front of her, but it tasted like nothing to her.
She had something on her mind.
She knew that as long as there was no news about the two of them, she wouldn't be able to feel at ease.
