Chapter 148: Open Confrontation

Mrs. Huo heaved a deep sigh.

"Fine, I can't control you all anymore," she said and left the living room without looking back.

It might just be Gu Sisi's illusion, but she felt that the figure seemed somewhat haggard and helpless.

"Cough, cough." The living room fell silent again. Mr. Huo coughed a few times to break the silence.

Leaning on his walking stick, he said in a deep and powerful voice, "Alright, you can stay here for the time being."

After saying that, Mr. Huo also left.

The gorgeous woman standing aside couldn't believe her ears. She shouted in disbelief, "Dad!"

But Mr. Huo just waved his hand, shook his head, and walked towards the back door - the direction where Mrs. Huo had just left.

"Huo Cheng, what's going on?" Gu Sisi still didn't understand the situation at this moment.

The gifts that had just been delivered were now sitting still in the living room.

Huo Cheng noticed her gaze and said softly, "Someone will come to deal with them later."

"Humph!" The woman beside them rolled her eyes and turned away.

The clattering of her footsteps revealed her dissatisfaction.

Maybe it was because they were going to stay.

Huo Cheng decided to explain their identities to her.

As Gu Sisi had guessed, the man and woman in the living room just now were his parents, and the gorgeous young woman was his older sister.

This realization surprised Gu Sisi. Before she could ask further, Huo Cheng was called away by a servant in the mansion.

Gu Sisi's clothes had also been moved to the closet in this room. She looked up and carefully examined the room. She was becoming more and more certain that this was Huo Cheng's room.

Maybe Huo Cheng had left home too early, because there were even some toys here.

Their stay was a last - minute decision, but they could move in immediately. It seemed like this was a common occurrence, and all the items were well - maintained. There was no sign of wear and tear over time.

Gu Sisi casually picked up an item on the black lacquered cabinet - a small iron box with a lock. She shook it, and it jingled, but she couldn't open it, so she had to give up helplessly.

There was also a somewhat dark - colored photo album on it, with dim patterns. Gu Sisi carefully opened it. Sure enough, her guess was right. There were photos of Huo Cheng when he was a child.

There was a photo of him when he was very young. He looked almost the same as now, except that his face was rounder because he was small, and his eyes were clean and bright. He didn't have the current aura yet. He was just adorable all over.

Gu Sisi laughed out loud when she saw it. She continued to flip through the album and unexpectedly found a photo of Huo Cheng's older sister. The two of them were standing on the grass, showing their teeth in a bright smile. She was a bit surprised. It seemed that their relationship had been so good before.

What had happened after that?

Looking further down, Gu Sisi was even more surprised.

Along with the photos on the grass, there was also a group photo. There were four children in it. Besides Huo Cheng and his older sister, there were two other little boys. The four of them had their arms around each other's shoulders, looking at each other and smiling brightly.

The smiles were so infectious that Gu Sisi unconsciously showed a smile on her face. But when she looked at the face of one of the boys, she stopped. They looked so alike. Although they weren't exactly the same, they gave the impression of being similar.

Could it be that Huo Cheng had more than one sister?

As an only child, Gu Sisi opened her mouth wide and silently mouthed "Wow". Having a sibling was Gu Sisi's childhood dream, so she subconsciously felt envious. But then she thought about the relationship between Huo Cheng and his older sister.

Suddenly, she hesitated. It seemed that not all siblings in every family could get along harmoniously.

However, it was also a bit different. Gu Sisi swallowed hard. The situation in the Huo family was rather special. She could never have imagined it would develop to this point.

Just as Gu Sisi was getting engrossed in looking at the photos, there was a knock on the door.

Gu Sisi quickly closed the photo album and walked towards the door.

She opened the door, and a man in a suit, who looked to be in his forties, was standing outside.

They looked at each other. Gu Sisi was just about to ask a question.

The man spoke first, "Hello, miss. I'm the butler here. You can just call me Old Chen like everyone else."

"Okay. Sure." Gu Sisi's facial muscles were a bit stiff as she nodded with a smile.

"I'm disturbing you this time because it's time for the meal. Please get ready." After saying that, the butler also nodded and was about to leave.

But his steps were interrupted by Gu Sisi.

"Please wait a moment."

The butler turned back. "What's the matter, miss?"

Gu Sisi put down her raised hand and asked carefully, "I'd like to ask where Huo Cheng is?"

"I don't know about that," the butler shook his head and then looked up. "But you can call him."

"I see," Gu Sisi said to herself as she turned around.

"Oh, right. I have something else to remind you." The voice came from behind again.

Gu Sisi quickly put away the phone she had just taken out. "Huh? What's up?"

She was completely confused. This house was not only a mix of various types but also gave a sense of oppression, making people unconsciously follow the "rules" and be careful.

Gu Sisi was being very cautious in every move.

"If the young master is talking to the master or the mistress, you'd better not call him. Otherwise, it's easy to leave a bad impression on them."

Gu Sisi was startled. She felt a bit scared as she touched the phone in her hand.

Maybe the butler noticed Gu Sisi's fear and smiled slightly. "Actually, miss, you don't need to be so worried. There aren't that many rules in the Huo family. This is just a little suggestion from me."

"Okay." Gu Sisi forced a smile. She didn't believe there weren't many rules here at all.

"If you have any questions, you can come and ask me."

"Okay, thank you." Gu Sisi withdrew her smile. She let out a sigh of relief as she watched the butler walk away.

She shook her head and returned to the room. She lay on the bed. Who would have thought that in a family, there would be so many things to pay attention to when making a phone call? And what was the butler's main purpose for coming just now?

Gu Sisi sat up from the bed. It was about dinner!

But she didn't even know where the dining room was!

Gu Sisi looked at her phone but finally gave up the desire to call. She went downstairs directly. In the huge space, she finally found a servant who was cleaning. After asking for directions, she rushed there in a hurry.

When she got there, she was stunned.

There were many people sitting inside. There were more people than Gu Sisi had expected. However, the person she most wanted to see was not here.

Mrs. Huo was sitting in the main seat, and the seat next to her was empty.

In addition, there were two other empty seats, probably reserved for her and Huo Cheng.

As soon as Gu Sisi entered the dining room, everyone at the table looked at her.

"What's going on? Old Chen, didn't I tell you to inform her that today is a family gathering and ask her to dress up properly?"

Mrs. Huo looked very unhappy.

In addition, the older sister was clearly smirking.

Old Chen was standing beside the mistress. He looked over and found that Gu Sisi hadn't changed her clothes.

Gu Sisi was also very nervous. Had she been told to change clothes just now?

"It was my negligence in informing. It has nothing to do with Miss Gu," Old Chen bowed.
