They stopped in front of Leng Chuanjin's bedroom. The door creaked open.
The man reached out to turn on the light in the room, then let go of the girl's hand he had been holding.
The warmth in her hand vanished instantly. Xia Sanghuan instinctively reached forward but caught nothing.
She awkwardly put her hands behind her back. Fortunately, the man was concentrating on finding the sleeping bag he had thrown into the corner and didn't notice her action.
The girl looked around and found the quilt on the man's bed in a mess.
It seemed that he had rushed to find her as soon as he heard the noise.
A faint smile curled up on her lips.
"Do you need my help?"
She walked up to the man squatting on the ground and bent down to look at what was in his hand.
"No."
He stood up, picked up a towel beside him, and wiped the surface of the sleeping bag.
"Stay away. You'll get choked."
As he spoke, he unscrewed a bottle of mineral water and poured it on the towel.
"I didn't expect you to be able to do these things."
The girl's voice sounded a bit surprised.
"What?"
The man looked back at her.
"I thought young masters from rich families didn't do housework."
She murmured softly.
Watching his somewhat clumsy movements, she couldn't help but sigh.
"Let me do it."
She took a new towel from the shelf.
"Can I use this one?"
The man turned his head to look at her and frowned.
"Don't touch it."
"I'm not that delicate."
The girl shrugged.
Seeing that he didn't object, she started to help him tidy up.
The man couldn't persuade her, so he prepared the sleeping bag while keeping an eye on her wound.
When everything was ready, the two of them stared at the sleeping bag on the ground and fell into silence.
It was only now that they had completely calmed down. After the adrenaline returned to normal levels, they belatedly felt a bit embarrassed.
But it was his idea, and he couldn't just kick the little girl out.
Leng Chuanjin couldn't help but regret it. Not because he let the girl stay in his room, but because he seemed to have not considered her feelings.
"Second brother, maybe I should sleep on the ground. After all, this is your room."
To ease the awkward atmosphere, Xia Sanghuan spoke up.
"No."
The man rinsed his and the girl's hands with the remaining water in the bottle.
"Go to sleep quickly. We'll set off to go back tomorrow morning."
He took another clean towel to dry his hands, then handed it to the girl.
It had to be said that the second brother was really considerate when it came to taking care of others.
The girl thought to herself while drying her hands.
The man watched her climb onto the bed and tucked the quilt in for her.
He turned off the light and got into the sleeping bag.
The room soon fell silent. Occasionally, the sound of dripping water could be heard from outside the window. It should be that the water pipe was leaking a bit.
The girl buried half of her face in the quilt. Although the quilt was cold, she could still smell a faint fragrance belonging to the second brother.
She closed her eyes and forced herself to rest.
But the wound on her shoulder began to throb faintly, making her lose all drowsiness.
She tossed and turned in bed, trying to hold her breath as much as possible so as not to disturb Leng Chuanjin.
"Can't sleep?"
The man suddenly spoke.
He had been facing the door at first, but somehow he had turned around.
He was lying on the ground, face to face with the girl.
"Yeah."
The girl hesitated for a moment but still nodded. She didn't tell him that her wound hurt.
She thought he was just asking casually, but the next second, he crawled out of the sleeping bag.
He moved a chair and sat in front of the bed, holding one of her hands.
The night was as cold as water, and there was no heating in the rest house. Although she was wearing a cotton pajamas, her hands were as cold as ice.
The man's hands were warm, gradually warming hers up.
"Go to sleep."
He thought she was still scared.
"I'll stay here and watch over you."
The girl felt a bit guilty. She moved her fingers, trying to pull her hand out of his.
However, the man was quicker. He tightened his grip on her hand.
"I'll go rest after you fall asleep."
Seeing her concern, he comforted her.
Xia Sanghuan stared at him with wide eyes. For some reason, the wound didn't seem to hurt as much.
She was going to persuade him a bit more, but she couldn't fight off her drowsiness and gradually fell asleep.
When she opened her eyes the next day, the sun had already risen.
She was startled and quickly sat up in bed.
When she came to her senses, she found that her hand was still being held.
She turned her head in surprise and saw Leng Chuanjin half lying on the bed, asleep.
He was only wearing the overcoat he had come in. His brows were slightly furrowed, looking uncomfortable.
She tried to pull her hand out, but as soon as she moved, the man woke up.
He didn't seem fully awake yet, but he still instinctively tightened his grip on the girl's hand.
"Awake?"
He rubbed his eyes. His voice sounded a bit hoarse.
"Second brother, did you sleep like this all night?"
"Aren't you tired?"
She looked at him with concern.
"It's okay."
He reached out and rubbed her head, then straightened his back. But his neck twitched, and he had to lower his head again.
The girl found his appearance half funny and half angry.
"This is the result of not sleeping properly. Turn around. I'll rub your neck for you."
The man turned around as she said, with his back to her, offering his neck to her hands.
"Ouch—"
"You're so strong."
He gasped.
However, the girl didn't care at all and continued to massage as usual.
When the massage was over, Leng Chuanjin's neck was red.
But fortunately, it didn't hurt as much.
He stood up and stretched his sore body.
"Second brother, aren't you really sleepy?"
The girl got out of bed and saw the faint dark circles under the man's eyes.
"It's better not to drive when you're tired."
The man looked at the girl and chuckled.
"You haven't even got your driver's license yet, but you know not to drive when tired?"
She rolled her eyes and ignored him.
"I've already sent a message to Yun Ye."
Seeing her take out her phone, he said beside her.
"He'll come to pick us up soon."
The girl silently put her phone back in her pocket.
She had just been struggling about who to call, but the second brother had already arranged everything.
"Then I'll go back and pack my things first."
She walked to the door, turned around, and said.
"You should pack up too."
It wasn't until her figure disappeared at the door that the man suddenly coughed violently.
He reached out and touched his forehead. It was a bit hot.
Sure enough, he had a fever.
He couldn't let her know.
