Chapter 60: The Ruse

On the middle road.

The coachman was whipping the horse beside the carriage. Chang He stood with his hands behind his back. His long robe fluttered in the wind.

His eagle - like eyes calmly stared ahead. There was another carriage up front. All the way, the two carriages had been traveling at about the same speed, one in front of the other.

Suddenly, there was a barely perceptible sound coming from behind. Chang He's eagle eyes sharpened. With a flash of his figure, he was already standing on the roof of the carriage.

His eagle eyes quickly scanned the surroundings and instantly caught a glimpse of a dark shadow.

He flashed back onto the carriage board and whispered to the coachman, "Let me do it."

The coachman handed him the whip and respectfully stood on the side of the carriage board.

Chang He stood up and whipped the horse, quickly catching up with the carriage in front.

Tang Yuyan lit the oil lamp and carefully hung it on the roof of the carriage. Cang Luoyao beside her had already fallen asleep on her shoulder.

"We should be able to stop in a small town early tomorrow morning. I won't rest tonight so I can notice any situation immediately," Wei Feng said in a low voice as he looked at Tang Yuyan. He was dressed in a crane - feathered cloak.

Tang Yuyan gave a gentle smile and nodded.

"I'll watch over Luoyao and keep you company on this watch."

For a moment, tenderness flashed in Wei Feng's eyes. Suddenly, he heard the howling of the wind.

Wei Feng and Tang Yuyan exchanged a look. Tang Yuyan nodded. Wei Feng lifted the curtain of the carriage and found that Chang He's carriage, which had been following behind, had caught up, and the coachman had been replaced by Chang He.

"What's going on?" Wei Feng poked his head out and asked.

Chang He glanced at Wei Feng and said in a voice that only a few of them could hear, "Someone's been following us." His tone was calm and unhurried.

Tang Yuyan was startled. Noticing Cang Luoyao who was still sleeping beside her, she lowered her voice and whispered, "Is it someone from the Alliance Leader or from the Hundred Families?"

If it was someone from the Alliance Leader, it would be easier to deal with. But if it was the Hundred Families...

Tang Yuyan's face instantly turned deathly pale. If they encountered the Hundred Families, they might not even last until dawn!

Wei Feng calmed Tang Yuyan's nerves and comforted her, "If it's the Hundred Families, we can still negotiate. After all, we have no grudges against them."

"But their goal is the Rebirth Fruit. We, we can't hand over the Rebirth Fruit..." Tang Yuyan frowned and looked at Wei Feng.

Wei Feng pursed his lips and let out a soft sigh.

"It shouldn't be the Hundred Families... and it doesn't seem to be someone from the Alliance Leader either," Chang He's deep voice came from outside.

Tang Yuyan and Wei Feng both let out a sigh of relief. As long as they didn't encounter the Hundred Families for now, there was still hope for survival...

With a "bang", they heard the neighing of a horse outside. Chang He's carriage suddenly shook violently, and then the wheels slowly came to a stop.

Chang He frowned, and his eagle eyes flashed. He quickly flew onto the roof of the carriage where Tang Yuyan and Wei Feng were.

The next second, the carriage he had just been in rushed straight forward. A dagger had somehow been stuck in the horse's leg. Then, the carriage crashed into a tree and fell to pieces.

"Get off the carriage quickly!" Chang He said on the roof of the carriage.

After hearing Chang He's words, Wei Feng lifted the curtain and flew out.

Tang Yuyan looked outside, bit her lip, helped the sleeping Cang Luoyao up, gently laid her down on one side, then picked up the long sword beside her and quickly got off the carriage.

The coachman slowly stopped the carriage on one side. In the carriage, Cang Luoyao's fingers moved slightly, and she slowly opened her eyes...

After Tang Yuyan got out of the carriage, Wei Feng and Chang He were already standing on a hillside.

"May I ask who you are?" Chang He stood with his hands behind his back, and his eagle eyes observed every movement in the surroundings.

Tang Yuyan held her sword and stood below, guarding the carriage and not daring to go far.

"If you're all brothers in the Jianghu, why not stand out and get to know each other?" Wei Feng gave a soft laugh, but there was still a hint of vigilance on his handsome face.

The dark clouds covered the moon. Only the sound of the wind flapping the carriage curtain could be heard.

Suddenly, several dark shadows emerged from the darkness.

Tang Yuyan tightened her grip on the sword in her hand. She was a little nervous.

"Give us the Rebirth Fruit, and we'll let you go," one of the black - clothed men said in a gloomy tone.

The Rebirth Fruit?

All three of them were startled.

"Since you're neither from the Hundred Families nor from the Alliance Leader, could you let us know who you are?" Wei Feng didn't dare to act rashly. He looked at the shadows and asked tentatively.

There was a long silence on the other end. Just when Wei Feng thought they wouldn't answer this question, the gloomy voice rang out again.

"We're not people from the Jianghu."

As soon as the words were spoken, Chang He's face changed.

Wei Feng also didn't expect that they were not people from the Jianghu. He said, "Sorry, we can't hand over the Rebirth Fruit to you. It's not on us."

Tang Yuyan subconsciously looked at the shadows and secretly pursed her lips.

"We've been tracking you in two groups. The other group should have caught up by now," the black - clothed man added.

Tang Yuyan frowned tightly, and Wei Feng was also shocked.

The other group. Had they chased after Mr. Qiongxue? Or... were they following behind Young Master Zhong?

In the carriage, Old Immortal suddenly opened his eyes.

"Something's wrong. Why is it so quiet?"

Gu Rongxue was stunned for a moment. She looked at Old Immortal with a solemn expression and said, "Could it be..."

"Damn it!" Old Immortal stood up abruptly, grabbed his spear, and said to the coachman outside, "Stop the carriage quickly!"

There was no response from the other end. The carriage was still speeding forward.

Old Immortal felt a faint uneasiness in his heart. He exchanged a look with Gu Rongxue and lifted the curtain...

There was no one on the horseback! The carriage was moving on its own!

Gu Rongxue quickly got out and reined in the carriage.

"Master, what's going on?" Gu Ran opened his eyes sleepily and looked up at Old Immortal, who was looking shocked.

"Gu Ran, get up quickly. We've been tricked," Old Immortal looked down at his disciple with a nervous look on his face.

As soon as Gu Ran heard this, all his sleepiness vanished. He shivered and stood up. His head accidentally hit the carriage board, and he rubbed it.

"Ouch... it hurts..."

Seeing his clumsiness, Old Immortal was so angry that he hit him with his spear and scolded, "Useless!"

The carriage slowly came to a stop.

Old Immortal grabbed Gu Ran's ear and pulled him off the carriage. Gu Rongxue also got off.

The three of them looked back and didn't see Jiang Li's carriage.

Gu Rongxue's face changed slightly. She looked at Old Immortal and said, "Are the Northern and Eastern Star Lords in trouble?"

Old Immortal's sharp eyes were now filled with uneasiness and anxiety. He said, "They must have been blocked behind!"

"Master, what should we do?" Gu Ran rubbed his ear that had been pinched and nervously looked at the gloomy surroundings.

Old Immortal glared at him, looked at Gu Rongxue, and said, "Let's go back and help them. Hurry!"

After saying that, Gu Rongxue walked over, pulled the horse, and turned the carriage around. Old Immortal pulled Gu Ran and hurriedly got on the carriage. Gu Rongxue got on the horseback, whipped the horse, and rushed back.
