Chapter 208: Taking Sides

All I want is for you to stay by my side.

She thought this in her heart, but saw his smile widen, and his eyes were filled with tenderness when he looked at Mo Qinghuan.

This made her once suspect that Mu Yanming could see through her thoughts.

She struggled out of Mu Yanming's arms. "I originally thought I could take this opportunity to sound out the Queen. Maybe I could find some clues."

Mu Yanming reluctantly grabbed her. "Do you think I'm so incompetent in your heart? Investigating cases is a man's responsibility. Look at those noble ladies in the capital. Which one of them doesn't spend their days drinking tea, reciting poems, and shopping in clothing stores?"

"You, on the other hand, are always thinking about how to share my burdens."

She smiled and put the medicine bottles on the table into the medicine chest.

"Isn't it good to move forward together?"

Saying this, she carried the medicine chest outside and handed it to Dan'er.

"I was just about to enter the palace. How about I accompany you?"

She just smiled but didn't say a word.

She let him follow behind. Dan'er was extremely happy to see this scene.

Before they consummated their marriage, although they seemed to get along peacefully and respect each other, there always seemed to be something missing.

After they consummated their marriage, Dan'er finally felt that their eyes were filled with deep love.

...

Mo Yao sneaked out of the back door of the General's Mansion. After looking around, she hurriedly left.

Since Zhao Yiyi left the General's Mansion, Ning Shouzhang had handed over the power of managing the mansion to Mo Yao.

This made it even more convenient for her to support her mother.

She walked through the alley to the civilian house where her mother lived. After looking around again uneasily, she knocked on the door.

After Lan opened the door, she quickly pulled her in.

"Why haven't you come for so many days? Is something wrong?" She looked at her daughter and poured a cup of tea for her.

Mo Yao sat down and drank the tea in the cup. Taking a breath, she said, "That old woman at home has been keeping a close eye on me recently. I can feel that she seems to have sent people to monitor me, so I've been more careful recently. I sneaked out today while she was out to pray in the temple."

Lan spat. "That old hag. If it doesn't work, just find a way to get rid of her. That way, you won't have to see her every day, and your movements won't be restricted."

Mo Yao pursed her lips. The unpleasant words were on the tip of her tongue but were held back.

"You make it sound so easy. Now, not only is that old woman keeping a close eye on me, but I can also feel that the General has been suspicious of me recently. So, the things I brought you today, use them sparingly. I may not come for a while."

As soon as Lan heard this, her expression changed. "That won't do. If you don't come and I can't go out, do you want to keep me locked up here and suffocate me to death?"

Mo Yao stood up and was about to leave when Lan grabbed her.

"Yaoyao, I've raised you single - handedly. You can't just ignore me!"

She struggled out of Lan's hand and said angrily, "Okay, I know. Be more obedient. Let me tell you, Mu Yanming has great power now, and he dotes on Mo Qinghuan very much. Mo Qinghuan has never given up looking for you!"

Lan, who had already walked to the door, took a few steps back when she heard what Mo Yao said.

"Do you mean that she still has people searching for me?"

Mo Yao nodded. "If it weren't for big brother hiding you here, I really wouldn't know where to hide you. So, please don't cause us any trouble."

Lan put on a smiling face. "Have you been in touch with your brother recently? What did he say about avenging your father?"

Mo Yao stepped back into the courtyard and lowered her voice. "He only said that the Third Prince is very popular now. The Emperor loves him very much and seems to be planning to make him the crown prince. But I heard from the General that the Third Prince is suspected of bribing an assassin to assassinate the Emperor and has now been imprisoned in the dungeon."

When Lan heard this, a worried look appeared on her face.

"From what your brother said, he plans to side with the Third Prince. But, I have to remind you. Even if the Third Prince is cleared of the suspicion of assassinating the Emperor in the future, it's still like a thorn in the Emperor's heart. Even if the thorn is removed, the Emperor will still feel pain when he thinks about it."

Mo Yao thought what she said made sense. She grabbed her mother's arm and asked, "Mom, do you mean that the Third Prince has no future?"

Lan shook her head. "I'm not sure either. But think about it. Which prince who is suspected of assassinating the Emperor will be reused?"

"You're right. I have to tell my brother this news quickly, so that he won't stupidly go to the Third Prince to show his loyalty."

Saying this, she walked out. When she was about to reach the door, she turned back to look at Lan.

She whispered comfortingly, "Mom, don't worry. As long as we're alive, there will always be a time for us to reunite. So, you must be patient now and don't go out running around!"

Lan nodded and replied, "Okay, okay. Hurry up and go. I know what to do."

Only then did Mo Yao leave with confidence.

At the entrance of the dungeon at this time, Zhang Haoxuan had been hesitating under a tree not far away for a while.

Finally, he summoned up the courage to step forward but was blocked outside by the jailers.

He took out two large gold ingots and stuffed them into the hands of the two jailers. "Brother jailer, please be kind enough to let me in. I want to go in and see His Highness the Prince of Cheng and deliver a message to him."

The two jailers looked at each other and finally stuffed the gold ingots into their pockets.

"Go ahead. Don't stay too long. Don't make things difficult for us brothers."

Zhang Haoxuan nodded. "Of course, of course."

Saying this, he walked in. One of the jailers led the way in front and pointed to Mu Yefeng's cell.

"It's over there. Go. Remember not to stay too long."

He nodded obsequiously with a smile and walked to the door of Mu Yefeng's cell.

"I, Zhang Haoxuan, pay my respects to His Highness the Prince of Cheng."

Mu Yefeng slowly turned his head and looked at Zhang Haoxuan.

"Who are you?"

Zhang Haoxuan took a step forward. "I'm the son of Minister Zhang. My father has been killed."

Mu Yefeng frowned. "You must have spent a lot of silver to get in to see me, right?"

Zhang Haoxuan smiled awkwardly. He didn't expect Mu Yefeng to mention his bribery of the jailers like this.

"It's worth spending any amount of money just to see Your Highness."

Mu Yefeng sneered. "Since you've spent a lot, then say what you have to say quickly, or else the time will be up before you've even explained your purpose."

Zhang Haoxuan wiped the sweat off his forehead. It seemed that this Prince of Cheng was not easy to deal with.

Maybe he was not easy to deceive either. So, he started to play the victim.

"To be honest, I came to see Your Highness today because I want to avenge my father and seek justice for my wrongly - killed father."

Mu Yefeng twirled his Buddhist beads and smiled faintly. "Under the feet of the Son of Heaven, and you being a court official, if your father has been wronged, why don't you present a memorial to the Emperor instead of coming to see me?"
