Chapter 213: A Nighttime Visit to the Prince’s Mansion

The guard led the way very obligingly without asking anything about Yang Suxin.

She was so scared that she buried her head low. After the prison door was opened, Mu Yefeng turned around and looked at Bai Ke.

Seeing the two guards still standing at the door, Bai Ke coughed lightly in displeasure. One of them immediately reacted. He nudged the other and said, "Let's go, let's go pee together."

Then the two walked away arm in arm.

After they left, Bai Ke bowed to Mu Yefeng. "Your Highness, someone has been worried about you for a whole day and night. I've brought her here to see you specially."

Then he turned to Yang Suxin and whispered, "Go quickly. Try to be as fast as you can. Don't let anyone find out."

Yang Suxin nodded and walked into the prison in a few steps.

She looked Mu Yefeng up and down to make sure that he hadn't been beaten before she felt relieved.

Mu Yefeng was also quite fond of this little girl. Seeing her now, the corners of his tightly pursed lips lifted slightly.

"Why did you come?" he asked softly.

Yang Suxin pursed her lips at once. She lowered her head and bit her lips tightly.

She had prepared a lot of things to say, but when she saw Mu Yefeng, she suddenly couldn't say a word.

Mu Yefeng waited patiently for a long time, but she still didn't say a word. Then he pretended to be displeased and said, "Since Miss Yang has nothing to say, then go back."

She held back her tears desperately and replied with an "Okay", then turned around and was about to leave.

Suddenly, Mu Yefeng hugged her from behind. "I know, I know your feelings, and I know how worried you were when you couldn't see me." His voice was hoarse, like a voice that had been suppressed for a long time and finally got released.

She was held in his arms and didn't dare to move.

After a while, she said, "I'm relieved to see that you're okay. Don't worry either. I believe the prince will clear your name and set you free as soon as possible."

"Okay." He replied with a grunt, closing his eyes while holding her. The faint fragrance of pear blossoms on her body lingered around his nose.

After another while, he let go of Yang Suxin. "It's getting late. You should go back."

She walked out with reluctance in her eyes. Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly remembered something. "By the way, I have good news for you. You'll surely be happy when you hear it."

He probably guessed what she wanted to say. However, seeing the expectant look on her face, hoping to see him happy, he cooperated and asked, "What's the matter? What can make you so happy and also make me happy?"

"Sister-in-law is pregnant! Surprised?" She blinked her almond-shaped eyes. Her black eyelashes cast a shadow under her eyes, as if it had touched his heart.

Bai Ke at the door was speechless. She was already calling her sister-in-law.

"Really? Brother must be overjoyed. But don't forget to remind him. Although he's happy, he should also investigate the truth quickly. I'm still waiting to go out and pick a gift for my little nephew, the future heir of the prince."

She nodded. "I will. I'll remind the prince every day."

"Okay. Hurry up and go."

She walked out looking back every few steps and was pulled out by Bai Ke.

"Your Highness, then we'll leave first." Bai Ke bowed and locked the door again.

When they reached the door, the two guards asked, "Brother Bai, are you done?"

"Yes. You've worked hard." With that, he took out two silver coins and stuffed them into one of the guards' hands. "Go buy some wine. Farewell."

He led Yang Suxin out of the prison. After Bai Ke left, the two guards, who had been flattering before, showed disdainful expressions.

"The commander beside the regent is so stingy. These silver coins are only enough to send a beggar away!" He directly threw the two silver coins into the other guard's hand.

The guard who had been silent all the time smiled and said, "Thank you, Brother Kun."

"It's okay. You're my brother, and I introduced you here. I naturally have to take care of you."

The other guard cursed in his heart, "He scolds others for sending beggars away with these silver coins, but he throws them to me. The person who came yesterday gave two gold ingots, and he didn't think I was his brother then. Hmph, this bastard. Isn't he just relying on his seniority?"

Bai Ke sent Yang Suxin to the gate of the Yang Mansion and left after watching her go in.

He had just walked a few steps when he met Gu Qing from the Prime Minister Gu's Mansion.

"Commander Bai." Gu Qing bowed.

Bai Ke bowed back. "Young Master Gu, it's so late. Why are you still on the street?"

Gu Qing sighed. The two walked side by side. "To be honest, the eldest lady has been away from home for many days and hasn't returned yet. I've almost turned the capital upside down, but I still haven't found her."

After saying that, he sighed again.

Hearing this, Bai Ke thought of Gu Qinglan!

He pretended not to know and asked, "Miss Gu is missing?"

He nodded and looked at Bai Ke. "Commander Bai, if you see the eldest lady, please let me know. I will surely remember your kindness."

Bai Ke coughed and continued walking forward. "Young Master Gu, may I ask why Miss Gu ran away from home?"

Gu Qing sighed again. He looked up at the sky and pulled the corners of his mouth bitterly, as if self-mocking. "Oh, everyone in the capital knows that Qinglan is in love with the regent. But we all know the complications involved. She will never be able to have any connection with the regent. But she just refuses to accept this reality.

"Well, my adoptive father chose a marriage for her. She refused to marry no matter what and then ran away from home. It's been several days. I've also led soldiers to look for her for several days, but there's still no news."

Bai Ke glanced at him out of the corner of his eye and pretended to be concerned. "Could she have left the city, so you can't find her?"

Gu Qing shook his head. "I've asked Vice General Liu. He also helped me ask the guards on duty. No one saw her leave the city. So I guess she should still be in the city."

Bai Ke laughed in his heart. Keep guessing. You won't find her even if you look for a year!

He remembered that day when Mu Yanming had a gloomy face and told him to send Gu Qinglan out of the mansion, otherwise he wouldn't be allowed to go back either.

But Gu Qinglan had grabbed his hand tightly and cried so pitifully. Well, there was nothing he could do. Who made him soft-hearted? He kindly pointed out a place for Gu Qinglan.

Presumably, Gu Qinglan should be living quite comfortably in the tea plantation on the southern mountain of the capital by now.

Seeing Bai Ke in a daze, Gu Qing called out, "Commander Bai... Commander Bai."

After calling twice, Bai Ke finally came to his senses. "Oh, Young Master Gu, don't worry. If I see Miss Gu, I'll surely persuade her to go back as soon as possible. If I can't persuade her, I'll send someone to inform you."

Before Gu Qing could reply, Bai Ke bowed and said goodbye.

The quickening of his steps made Gu Qing suspicious.

After hesitating for two seconds, he followed Bai Ke.

Bai Ke felt someone following him. He shook his head helplessly, slowed down his steps, and walked leisurely towards the regent's mansion.

Gu Qing followed him all the way to the gate of the regent's mansion. He hid in a corner of the opposite alley and looked up at the plaque of the regent's mansion.

"Qinglan, don't tell me you're hiding in the regent's mansion?"

It seemed that he had to go in and investigate to find out the answer.
