Chapter 228: Nightmare

Mu Yefeng frowned. This was really beyond his expectation. He turned back to look at Mu Yanming.

Mu Yanming blinked his eyes, indicating his consent.

Just like this, Min Feiyan was brought before the emperor.

She knelt straight in the imperial study with her back upright. The emperor was sitting in front of the dragon desk, his fingers gently tapping on the desk one by one.

The unhurried rhythm made people feel nervous.

Min Feiyan just knelt there silently.

It was not until the emperor spoke first, "Someone, summon the imperial physician to feel her pulse."

The little eunuch responded and ran off. Soon he brought the imperial physician.

The imperial physician knelt on the ground respectfully. "Greetings, Your Majesty."

Since the last time when he failed to cure Mu Yefeng's illness, all the people in the imperial medical bureau had been trembling with fear at the emperor's summons.

They were afraid that they might lose their heads carelessly. So he knelt there shivering and gritted his teeth tightly.

However, the emperor said casually, "Feel her pulse and see if she is pregnant."

Only then did the imperial physician breathe a sigh of relief. It was a happy pulse. It was easy to feel.

"Please stretch out your hand, Princess Rui."

Min Feiyan stretched out her hand, and the imperial physician felt her pulse.

After a while, the imperial physician turned to salute in the direction of the emperor. "Your Majesty, it's a happy pulse. It's been more than a month. The pulse is smooth and the fetus is very healthy."

The emperor coughed lightly. "Good. Since that's the case, you'll move into the Queen's palace and take good care of yourself. After giving birth to the heir in the future, you'll be expelled from the palace."

After saying that, the emperor got up from the dragon desk and left the imperial study.

Only then did Min Feiyan collapse. Zhier helped her up.

She shook off Zhier's hand, walked up to Mu Yefeng, hooked the corner of her mouth, showing a victorious expression.

Mu Yefeng thought it was funny and left with a flick of his sleeve.

Then she went to the Queen's palace. The queen sized her up from head to toe.

She just stood there quietly. Seeing that she neither cried nor made a fuss, nor mentioned the matter of seeing the Prince Rui, the queen gently slapped the table, stood up, and walked up to her.

"I've heard that you've been sleeping in separate rooms from His Highness for a long time. When did you get pregnant? Why didn't you report it?"

Min Feiyan looked up at the queen. "Replying to Your Majesty, His Highness said that if I were pregnant, it would affect his grand cause. So I didn't dare to say anything, for fear that I would lose the child in my belly just like last time."

The queen frowned. "So you knew all the things that Your Highness did! Then why didn't you stop him? Why did you just watch him jump into the abyss of hell?"

Min Feiyan sneered. "Your Majesty, you summoned His Highness back just to let him compete for the position of the crown prince, right? If it weren't for Your Majesty's letter back then, the four of us would be living happily on the mountain by now."

The queen staggered back a few steps and slumped down on the stool.

Yes, she did have the intention of letting her son fight for the throne back then. But she didn't expect that he would be so radical.

He even came up with the idea of assassinating the emperor, which made her younger son still lying in bed now.

She even didn't expect that the emperor would be so heartless to her two sons. In order to pave the way for his son with that woman, he actually did such a thing.

Fine. Since you're heartless, don't blame me for being unrighteous!

I will never let that woman's son become the emperor!

Thinking of this, she sat up straight. "Yiner, you should take good care of the child in your belly. Whether His Highness can turn things around depends entirely on him."

"Someone, help Princess Rui down to rest. And send a few maids to serve her personally."

Min Feiyan turned around and walked out, saying softly, "Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty. I only need Zhier by my side. I don't feel at ease with other people."

The implication was that she didn't even trust the queen.

The queen frowned and looked at this daughter - in - law who used to be submissive. Now she was out of her control.

She felt a burst of annoyance in her heart and waved her hand to knock all the tea cups on the table to the ground.

Min Feiyan heard the rattling sound of the broken pieces coming from the Queen's palace and hooked the corner of her lips.

Mu Yanming returned to the Regent's Mansion and walked into the Yangyang Hall. He saw Mo Qinghuan sitting on the bed reading a book.

He sighed deeply, looked up at the pitch - black night sky. There were no stars or moon in the sky tonight.

There were only large patches of dark clouds, as if pressing on people's heads, making people feel depressed.

He walked into the room and sat down at the table.

When Mo Qinghuan saw him coming back, she got out of bed and walked up to him.

"What's wrong? You look preoccupied..."

He looked up at Mo Qinghuan and then shifted his gaze to the outside of the door.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, followed by a muffled thunder.

The rain poured down from the sky. Soon, the whole yard was wet.

The rain flowed down the eaves and hit the ground, creating small puddles.

He stood up and wanted to close the door.

Suddenly, Mo Qinghuan hugged him from behind. "I know what you're worried about, but it's okay. I will protect myself and our child. Really, you believe me."

He closed the door and hugged her back in his arms.

His voice was hoarse and low. "Okay."

He didn't say much and helped her onto the bed.

However, Mo Qinghuan just couldn't fall asleep.

In the middle of the night, he had a dream. He dreamed that Mo Qinghuan was covered in blood. She tightly covered her belly and screamed, accusing him harshly.

"Why! Why do you have to take revenge! The dead are already dead. Don't the living deserve a peaceful life?"

He took steps towards her, raising his hand to support her tottering body.

The distance between them was not far, but it seemed to him that he had walked for a century.

Finally, he walked up to her. He raised his hand to support her, but just when he was about to touch her, she fell to the ground and fainted.

There came the deafening roars of the army from behind. He saw Mu Linyi sitting on a tall horse, looking at him coldly with a sneer on his lips.

"Mu Yanming, do you see? Your father couldn't defeat me, and neither can you! Hahaha." He threw his head back and laughed. "Someone, shoot the arrows!"

There were archers ambushed everywhere on the city wall. He looked around, but there was no one left to fight by his side.

The arrows rained down on them. He panicked and protected Mo Qinghuan in his arms, for fear that she would be hurt in the slightest.

He was hit by several arrows, but he didn't let go. However, the person in his arms suddenly opened her eyes.

"Mu Yanming, go to hell!" Saying that, she took out a dagger and stabbed it hard at his heart.

He looked at Mo Qinghuan in disbelief. "Huan'er, you!"

Mo Qinghuan hooked her lips and smiled. "Didn't you expect that I've always been the emperor's person? All of this was arranged by the emperor. Even your petition for the imperial marriage was within the emperor's expectation! I've been lurking by your side for so long just to kill you with one blow."

Mu Yanming stared into her eyes firmly. "You had so many opportunities. Why did you have to choose today, just when I was closest to the success of my revenge!"
