Petals fluttered down from above and landed on Wen Sining's face. The refreshing fragrance wafted over. Before she could fully immerse herself in it, a sneeze sent the petals flying into the distance.
Rubbing her nose, Wen Sining caught sight of Lu Luochen who had somehow entered the room. Her eyes dropped and she noticed the thermos in his hand.
"Food?"
Her nose had just been irritated by the petals and had become extremely sensitive. Wen Sining padded over barefoot, and her stomach growled inopportune.
Lu Luochen walked past her and placed the thermos on the table. Inside was the chicken soup that the old master had specifically asked the hotel kitchen to prepare for her to nourish herself.
"Aren't you going to eat with me?" Wen Sining dragged over a stool and noticed that Lu Luochen was about to leave.
He opened the door and closed it in one smooth motion.
She hadn't eaten all day and was really hungry.
Wen Sining unceremoniously opened the lunch box, and the aroma of the chicken soup instantly filled the air.
After a satisfying meal, Wen Sining felt exhausted. Assuming that Lu Luochen wouldn't come back, she lay alone on the huge bed and fell asleep.
The next morning when she woke up, Lu Luochen was lying on the small sofa. The blanket on him had somehow fallen to the ground.
"Master, Mistress, are you awake?"
The knocking and calling woke up the people in the room. Wen Sining stretched out her arms to loosen her body. When she sat up, she saw Lu Luochen who had somehow appeared.
He actually voluntarily slept on the sofa?
Wen Sining shuffled out of bed and embarrassedly rubbed her hair. "Um, why did you sleep here last night?"
Lu Luochen stood up with a dark face and walked straight to the door.
Opening the door, Uncle Bai, who had been with his head down, looked up at the sound. "Master, the old master asks you two to get ready. You'll be leaving soon."
"Okay."
The door closed. Lu Luochen ignored Mu Ran who was trying to curry favor with him and turned into the bathroom.
The sound of trickling water drifted out. Wen Sining opened her suitcase and took out a clean set of clothes. She sat at the end of the bed yawning, waiting for the bathroom to be available.
After leaving the hotel, in the nanny car, the old master looked at Lu Luochen who looked tired and then at Wen Sining who looked refreshed.
"Did you sleep well last night?"
As soon as the words were out, Wen Sining actively looked at Lu Luochen beside her. "It was okay. The bed was just too soft. I didn't sleep very comfortably."
Lu Luochen snorted at him.
Last night, Wen Sining had sprawled out on the bed, her breathing steady. There was no sign that she had been affected by the bed at all.
The old master noticed the little emotions between the two and smiled kindly. "Really? Then you might have to sleep on a hard bed tonight."
"A hard bed?" Wen Sining looked curious.
The car drove into the suburbs. There were dense trees outside the window.
The old master nodded and looked at the driver in front. "How much longer?"
"We'll be there soon." As the driver spoke, the car turned left, and the houses in front faintly came into view.
Lu Luochen had been looking out of the window all the time. Before they set off, he had asked the old master, but the old master had just smiled and not answered.
The car drove into a small mountain village. The narrow road ahead couldn't allow the car to go any further, so it had to stop.
"Master, the car can't go in."
The villagers in the village rushed over when they heard the sound. Each of them stood sternly in front of the car, forming a row to block the way defensively.
An elderly man walked forward with a walking stick. "What are you doing in the village?"
The old master opened the car door and politely replied, "I heard that the divine doctor Kang Bai lives here. We're here to find him."
The old man sized up the old master carefully. "I'm Kang Bai."
"That's great. I've come specially to visit you today." Master Lu walked forward excitedly and actively reached out his hand to shake hands with the other.
Kang took a step back and glanced at the car behind him. "Please drive your car out. It's not convenient for cars to enter the village."
The surroundings were very simple. The houses were all made of thatched huts. There were many racks on both sides of the road, on which some unknown herbs were being dried.
If you smelled carefully, the air was filled with the fragrance of herbs.
The old master ordered everyone to get out of the car and then asked the driver to drive the car away.
Walking into the village, the villagers looked at them as if they were aliens. From the moment they stepped into the village, they had never been without a scrutinizing look.
"Grandpa, why did you come here?" Wen Sining tugged at the corner of Lu Luochen's clothes and whispered to him.
Lu Luochen disgustedly pulled his sleeve out of her hand and strode to catch up with the old master.
Humph, if you don't know, just say so. Why pretend to know everything?
Wen Sining walked at the back, rolling her eyes to the sky.
The group followed Kang Bai to his home. Herbs were placed everywhere in the yard. If you had to use a word to describe it, his place was a paradise for herbs.
Wen Sining knew a bit about medicine. Her grandmother had taught her when she was a child, and she had studied hard.
There were herbs everywhere. Was the old master sick?
Wen Sining stared intently at Master Lu, her eyes eager to see through everything.
"Who is it that needs medical treatment?" Kang Bai looked at the crowd.
The old master turned around and waved. "Sining, come here quickly."
"Me?" Wen Sining opened her mouth wide.
"Luochen, you go out and wait first." The old master drove Lu Luochen away.
Uncle Bai understood the old master's intention and pulled Lu Luochen away with him.
With only the three of them left in the room, Wen Sining became even more nervous.
"Grandpa, I'm not sick."
"Don't be nervous. Doctor Kang is highly skilled and can treat anything."
Kang Bai stared at Wen Sining. The inquisitive look in his eyes made Wen Sining feel inexplicably uneasy.
"Grandpa, I really don't need medical treatment." Saying that, Wen Sining was about to walk out.
Before the old master could stop her, Kang Bai spoke first. "Mr. Lu, could you please go out for a while? I'd like to have a few words with this young lady."
After hesitating for a moment, seeing the determination in Kang Bai's eyes, the old master nodded in agreement.
He came to Wen Sining's side and gently patted her on the shoulder to comfort her. "Grandpa knows you're not sick. We came here to heal the wound on your face. Trust grandpa and trust Doctor Kang. Don't be moody."
After saying that, the old master nodded at Kang Bai and then turned to leave.
With one more person gone from the room, Wen Sining looked at Kang Bai defensively. She didn't trust any so - called divine doctors, especially the one in front of her.
"I'll be straight - forward. The scar on your face is fake. You don't need me to treat it. And you don't believe in my ability either. Am I right?"
With all her thoughts laid bare, Wen Sining blushed and felt rather embarrassed.
"I don't like beating around the bush. If you have any requests, just say so. As long as they're reasonable, I'll naturally satisfy you." Kang Bai spoke again.
"Help me?" Wen Sining retorted. "We've just met. Why would you be willing to help me?"
