Chapter 40: Deliberate Avoidance

Boom~

The defense in Wen Sining's heart collapsed. She felt the pain on her lips. With her eyes as big as copper bells, she watched Lu Luochen devour her like a wild beast.

Her first kiss...

Wen Sining felt the numbness on her lips and summoned all her strength to break free from Lu Luochen's restraint. Without thinking, she pushed him away forcefully.

Her back hit the sofa hard. Wen Sining fled the living room like a refugee.

Her mind was in a daze. Lu Luochen only saw a vague figure flash before his eyes. Then he raised his hand to rub his throbbing head.

Weakly, he collapsed on the sofa and gradually lost consciousness.

Back in her room, Wen Sining listened to the pounding of her heart. Leaning against the door, she covered her chest and gently touched her kissed lips.

"Stop thinking about it!" Wen Sining slapped her forehead to stop the wild thoughts in her mind. Fearfully, she locked the door from the inside and then rushed into the bathroom like the wind.

In the mirror, Wen Sining's hair was in a mess on top of her head. Her cheeks were flushed, and her kissed lips were swollen.

She carefully raised her hand, and her cold fingertips touched her lips. It seemed that Lu Luochen's scent still lingered there, making her already flushed cheeks even hotter.

Taking a deep breath, Wen Sining shook her head and murmured to herself in the mirror, "Calm down. He's drunk. All his tenderness now is just because he mistakes you for a substitute. When he sobers up tomorrow, all he'll have for you are vicious words."

Pressing her palm against her heart, Wen Sining forced her heart to stop racing.

That night, Wen Sining couldn't fall asleep for a long time.

In the early morning, the servants came out of their rooms on time. When passing by the living room, they saw Lu Luochen curled up on the sofa.

After the initial surprise, they looked at each other and stood there at a loss.

"What's going on?" Uncle Bai stood on the stairs and saw the servants huddled together instead of working. He scolded them and walked down.

The servants automatically stepped aside, revealing Lu Luochen who had spent the night on the sofa.

"Master?" Uncle Bai exclaimed and quickly stepped forward to check on him.

The noisy sounds rang in his ears. His head after a night of drinking was about to explode. Lu Luochen let out a painful groan and raised his hand to rub his temples.

"Go prepare a glass of honey water." Uncle Bai ordered the servants who were standing around watching.

Everyone understood what he meant and immediately scattered to their respective areas to start working.

Uncle Bai waited beside Lu Luochen for him to wake up.

"Master, did you drink last night?"

Lu Luochen sat on the sofa, looked up at Uncle Bai, and then at the hangover soup left on the coffee table.

He couldn't remember anything that had happened last night. All he knew was that he had waited outside Yun Chutong's door for a long time.

"Don't tell Grandpa." Lu Luochen got up and instructed.

Uncle Bai wanted to say something, but seeing him staggering upstairs, he swallowed his words.

When he reached the door of his room, Lu Luochen grabbed the doorknob.

Afraid of his attack last night, Wen Sining had locked the door on purpose.

Unable to open the door, Lu Luochen frowned impatiently and kicked it with his foot.

Wen Sining hadn't slept all night. She sensed Lu Luochen's presence as soon as she heard the footsteps outside.

Sensitively touching her lips, she hesitated for a moment and then got out of bed.

Calm down. Maybe he doesn't remember anything that happened last night at all!

She opened the door, and Lu Luochen walked straight past her.

Wen Sining looked back and saw that Lu Luochen had already entered the bathroom.

There's nothing to worry about. He doesn't remember at all.

Wen Sining walked out of the room. She didn't want to stay in the same environment as Lu Luochen.

The servants had prepared breakfast. Wen Sining sat at the table with the old master. Lu Luochen came later. As soon as he sat down, he lowered his head and ate the food in his bowl.

Chewing on the egg, Wen Sining couldn't help but recall what had happened last night. She secretly glanced at Lu Luochen's moving lips, and her heart started pounding.

"Sining?"

The old master called her several times in a row. It wasn't until Lu Luochen looked up that Wen Sining came back to her senses.

"Why do you look so preoccupied? Is something wrong?" the old master asked.

Wen Sining deliberately avoided Lu Luochen's gaze. Her mind was spinning rapidly. "I'm just thinking how delicious the porridge is today."

Saying that, she lifted the bowl with a silly smile and slurped the porridge.

Hearing the sound of her slurping, Lu Luochen rolled his eyes and threw down his chopsticks.

The old master, who was in a good mood, got angry when he saw his action. "If you're done eating, go downstairs."

Lu Luochen couldn't wait to put some distance between himself and Wen Sining across the table. He took the napkin off his lap and left the table.

Soon, the servants' voices bidding farewell to Lu Luochen could be heard.

Only after he had really left did Wen Sining dare to turn around.

"If you like it, eat more. You've lost weight these days," the old master said, picking up a fried egg with his chopsticks and putting it on Wen Sining's plate.

Pulled back to reality, Wen Sining nodded and obediently ate the fried egg.

After breakfast, Wen Sining wandered around the yard with a heavy heart. On one hand, there was Kang Bai from the village in Lincheng, and on the other hand, there was Lu Luochen, who had taken her first kiss.

Was she having bad luck recently? Everything she did seemed to go wrong.

Letting out a long sigh, Wen Sining saw the kitchen servants walking out.

"I heard there will be guests coming to the house today. We have to hurry and buy the ingredients. Don't delay the evening banquet."

"I wonder who's coming. It even requires the old master to entertain them personally."

The servants walked side by side towards the door, still chatting about the family's affairs.

Wen Sining overheard a few words but didn't pay much attention.

Some things couldn't be changed once they had happened, and things that were hard to figure out needed to be studied bit by bit. She wasn't the kind of person who would let a little thing mess up her mind. She simply turned her extra energy to other important matters.

...

In the village of Lincheng.

A staff member in a yellow vest had traveled far and wide to reach his destination.

As soon as he stepped into the village entrance, he saw a row of people standing in front of him. He almost dropped the box in his hand and looked helplessly at the fierce villagers.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm... I'm a courier," he stammered.

One of the villagers stepped forward, glanced at the trembling courier, and snatched the box from his hand. "The recipient is Tiantian."

The villager looked back at his companions. One person in the group left, while the others stepped forward and opened the box regardless of the courier's protests.

"This seems to really be a package for Tiantian," someone said.

Some people took out the things inside. There was a letter in the corner. Since the villagers couldn't read, they had to ask the courier to read it.

"Hello, Tiantian. I don't know if you still remember me. Our short time together made me like you very much. To thank you for taking care of me these days, I bought some beautiful clothes for you. I hope you'll like them."

After the courier finished reading, Tiantian, who was being carried by someone, waved her arms excitedly. "It's a gift from the beautiful sister."

After hearing the content of the letter, everyone also knew who the sender was.
