Chapter 60: Check Him Thoroughly

Ji Yun stomped his foot angrily and cursed silently in his heart. Sure enough, the kid had grown up and was no longer as easy to deceive as when he was a child.

Before his anger subsided, Gu Jiangyue had already started to urge him. Even though Ji Yun still had some anger to vent, he had no choice but to do his job obediently. After all, he had taken her benefits.

Gu Jiangyue looked at Ji Yun whose face was as black as the bottom of a pot. She didn't quite understand what had just happened, but her intuition told her not to ask. Gu Jiangyue could only mutter to herself with a question in her mind.

"Was it that fast to send someone away?"

Just then, Ji Yun, who had been working obediently, shuddered. Then Gu Jiangyue felt that the air around Ji Yun seemed to freeze.

Ji Yun didn't know how to tell Gu Jiangyue that the person he had sent away was fine and even extremely arrogant, and had left on his own two feet. So he simply pretended not to hear and just smashed the hibiscus flowers in his hand even harder, making louder and louder noises.

Gu Jiangyue couldn't figure out Ji Yun's strange temper, so she simply ignored him and went back to her own work.

Although she had verbally agreed to let Ji Yun stay here, she was still a bit worried. She decided to find some time tonight to ask the man in black about Ji Yun's background and whether he posed a threat to her.

Even in the afternoon, there were still many people in Huayan Tower. The previous small incident quickly passed, and the customers who came to buy rouge were smart enough not to mention the matter of Hexiang again.

Gu Jiangyue thought that she rarely even saw Xie Yuwen, let alone offended him. So she had no concerns about handing Hexiang over to Xie Yuwen and naturally forgot about it. She had no idea what fate Hexiang would meet in Xie Yuwen's hands.

Xie Yuwen didn't lie to Hexiang. After he took her away, he didn't go to the government office. Instead, he took her to a deserted alley.

Just when Hexiang thought she had messed things up and would have to pay a heavy price, Xie Yuwen shook his folding fan and said with a smile.

"I'll give you the money we agreed on before."

Hexiang was stunned when she heard this. She subconsciously thought that Xie Yuwen was really that kind and wouldn't hold this against her.

Xie Yuwen didn't look at Hexiang's rotten face anymore. He closed his folding fan with a snap and waved it behind Hexiang. A guard, who had been hiding somewhere, suddenly jumped out. He clasped his fists at Xie Yuwen and then handed a heavy bag of silver to Xie Yuwen.

Xie Yuwen didn't say anything more. He looked at Hexiang's eager eyes and directly threw the silver in his hand to her.

Hexiang quickly caught it. The tension on her lips finally disappeared, and she showed her first smile of the day. Although her face was horribly rotten, one could still vaguely tell from her blood - red skin that she used to be quite good - looking.

Hexiang hugged the bag of silver tightly and murmured almost obsessively in a low voice.

"Great, great. Grandma will finally be saved. She will finally be saved."

After Hexiang murmured for a while, Xie Yuwen seemed to be annoyed by her words. He let out a soft tsk of dissatisfaction.

Only then did Hexiang react. She hugged the silver and kept bowing to Xie Yuwen. All the gratitude in her eyes turned into tears that gushed out crazily. Even when the tears fell on her rotten skin, she didn't feel the pain. She just kept shouting.

"Thank you, young master. Thank you, young master."

Xie Yuwen seemed quite satisfied with her reaction. The gentle smile on his face returned as usual. He tilted his chin at Hexiang, indicating that she could leave now.

Hexiang didn't say anything more. She still had to go to the pharmacy to buy medicine and save her grandma.

Hexiang turned around and was about to run out of the dark alley.

Xie Yuwen watched Hexiang's back. The smile in his eyes deepened, but at some point, a hint of bloodthirstiness appeared in them.

"Attack."

As soon as Xie Yuwen's voice fell, the guard just now jumped up and rushed towards Hexiang. With a swing of his knife, Hexiang was lying on the ground, and a pool of blood flowed out from under her.

Hexiang opened her eyes wide and her mouth was also wide open, as if she wanted to say something. She didn't understand. Didn't Xie Yuwen say he would let her go? Why did he still kill her?

Xie Yuwen seemed to know what she wanted to know. He said faintly.

"I never said I would let you go. I've given you the money. It's just that Miss Hexiang doesn't have the life to spend it."

After hearing Xie Yuwen's words, Hexiang lost all her strength. She felt a pain in her chest, vomited a mouthful of blood, and the head she had just lifted dropped back to the ground.

"Young master, what about her body?"

The guard clasped his fists at Xie Yuwen.

Xie Yuwen didn't allow anyone to call him the Sixth Prince in public. The reason was simple. He hated this identity. His guards didn't dare to ask too much and could only remember their master's preferences.

Although Xie Yuwen was gentle on weekdays, only the guards who worked under him knew how crazy this man was. They, as guards, could only try their best to remember his preferences and habits, because if they accidentally called him the wrong name, there was only one outcome, and that was death.

"The mass grave."

Xie Yuwen's voice was calm, and it was hard to tell his mood. After saying that, he walked past Hexiang's body while shaking his folding fan.

"Check out that person in purple today too. I always feel like I've seen him somewhere."

He left the dark alley and stepped into the sunlight. His body was still warm, and there was no sign that he had just casually decided a person's life and death with just a few words.

The guard clasped his fists to accept the order and silently went to deal with Hexiang's body. While Xie Yuwen was leaving, he reached out to close Hexiang's eyes. When Xie Yuwen asked him to get the silver before, he actually felt happy for Hexiang. But there was nothing he could do. This was the real Xie Yuwen.

For them, the servants, it was easier to die than to live.

As night fell, Gu Jiangyue asked Zhiyuan to guard the door and not let anyone in. She herself walked to the window and took out the bamboo flute again.

The ethereal sound of the bamboo flute echoed in the quiet night.

Gu Jiangyue put the bamboo flute away and quietly returned to the table to wait. The man in black was from Qianyin Pavilion, which was a place specialized in gathering intelligence. So Qianyin Pavilion was the most suitable place to check Ji Yun's identity.

She could also share the recent situation of Huayan Tower with the man in black. Gu Jiangyue had taken out a part of the silver she had earned recently and exchanged it for banknotes at the bank. Firstly, it was easier for her to store them in the Gu Mansion.

Secondly, she wanted to give some to the man in black. Although she couldn't decide whether the man in black would stay or leave, at least he was the first true friend she had made in the capital since her rebirth and had helped her a lot.

Gu Jiangyue didn't want him to do any more life - risking jobs. Or perhaps he could use this money and take fewer risks. Gu Jiangyue had experienced many hardships and just wanted a peaceful life. She didn't know how to help her friends, but she just hoped that they could also live in peace.
