Chapter 23: Frame - up

The waiter saw Zhuque looking extremely anxious with a flushed face and quickly rushed upstairs to report. Cheng Xiran, Helian Duo, and Xue Lianyu were chatting about some matters regarding the newspaper office when they were suddenly interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Miss, there's a maid downstairs claiming to be your personal maid."

Cheng Xiran was slightly taken aback. Zhuque usually stayed in the mansion. Why did she come out today?

She got up and went downstairs. Helian Duo and Xue Lianyu followed suit. "Zhuque, why are you here?"

Zhuque grabbed Cheng Xiran's hand in a hurry. "Miss, you should go back quickly. Something of the old madam is missing. The entire prime minister's mansion has been sealed off by the prime minister. I bribed the guards and sneaked out to inform you. I'm afraid this matter is not simple."

Xue Lianyu joked with a smile, "Xiran, your prime minister's mansion is really a place full of troubles. One problem after another. Do you want me and Helian to help?"

Cheng Xiran had a splitting headache. The affairs of the newspaper office were already keeping her busy every day, yet there were still people in the mansion who couldn't let her have a moment's peace and kept causing her annoyance.

Why did grandmother's thing go missing just when she was at the newspaper office and not earlier or later? Moreover, grandmother's courtyard was strictly guarded. How could something suddenly go missing? Cheng Xiran smelled a rat.

Just as she was about to leave with Zhuque, a voice stopped her. "This matter is probably not simple. If you can't handle it, let me know." Helian Duo said expressionlessly.

Cheng Xiran was touched. She glanced at Helian Duo. "Okay." Then she took Zhuque back to the mansion. At this moment, the main hall was full of people. Cheng Xiran greeted the old madam politely. "Greetings to grandmother and father."

Father Cheng looked at Cheng Xiran disapprovingly. "You still remember to come back? I thought the newspaper office was your home."

Cheng Xiran was already used to Father Cheng's anger. She stepped forward and held the old madam's hand. "Grandmother, I heard something of yours is missing?"

The old madam nodded with an unpleasant look on her face. "A coral bracelet." Coral was from the deep - sea and extremely precious.

Liu's eyes fell on Cheng Xiran from time to time. "Since everyone is here, start the search. Don't miss a single room. We can't let some people play tricks."

Cheng Xiran motioned for Zhuque to follow them during the search to prevent someone from doing something underhand. She stared coldly at Liu, wondering what dirty trick she was up to this time.

Cheng Zhiyue had a look of triumph on her face. She believed this plan was foolproof.

Cheng Xiran would never be able to clear her name. She would see how she could still be so arrogant when she was disgraced.

The guards in the prime minister's mansion searched every room but found nothing. Only Cheng Xiran's courtyard was left. A group of people marched in a grand manner towards Cheng Xiran's courtyard.

Zhuque followed behind, afraid that they would steal her miss's things. Then she saw a servant take out a bright red bracelet from under the pillow.

Zhuque was stunned when she saw the bracelet being taken out from under the pillow. "Impossible. You must be framing my miss."

The servant was already feeling guilty. Being shouted at by Zhuque, she trembled even more. After finding the thing, the group went to the main courtyard to report to Father Cheng. "Your Excellency, this was found under the eldest miss's pillow."

The guard respectfully handed the found bracelet to the old madam. The old madam looked at Cheng Xiran heart - brokenly. "Xiran, as a legitimate eldest miss, you've resorted to such thievery. You've really disappointed me."

Cheng Xiran was also stunned. She scanned the people in the main hall coldly, sizing up the guard who had found the bracelet. Then she asked in a cold voice, "Who found it under my pillow?"

Father Cheng was completely enraged. He wished he had never given birth to Cheng Xiran. She had been embarrassing him outside all day, and now she was stealing in the mansion.
