Chapter 195: A Suitable Candidate

After thinking for a long while, she couldn't even come up with a general idea. Instead, Helian Duo's handsome face occupied her entire mind and lingered there for a long time, disturbing her so much that she couldn't write her manuscript.

Chi Liyin, who was fiddling with the glazed bracelet in her hand beside her, saw her looking so troubled. She couldn't help but ask seriously, "What's wrong, sister?"

She got up and saw that there wasn't a single word written on the rice paper in front of her. She couldn't help but sneer, "It seems that now you can't even write if you want to, sister. How about we go out and have some fun? Maybe you'll get inspired."

"Do you only think about having fun all day long with that little head of yours?"

Cheng Xiran gently bit the penholder, and when she looked at Chi Liyin, a look of envy unconsciously showed in her eyes.

Then she heard Chi Liyin tilt her head and seriously ask her back, "Am I wrong, sister? Uncle Xue always says that one should be content and find joy in life. Otherwise, if you suddenly die one day, you won't have any wonderful memories to look back on..."

"When did my father ever say such a thing? How come I don't know?"

Cheng Xiran was already used to Xue Lianyu's sudden appearance without a sound, but Chi Liyin was still startled.

Xue Lianyu made a face at her, then sat down beside them and crossed his legs leisurely. But there was a hint of seeking credit in his eyes when he looked at Cheng Xiran.

So before he could say anything, Cheng Xiran asked him proactively, "Have you found a suitable candidate?"

"I definitely did my best for the task you assigned me..." There was a look of triumph on Xue Lianyu's face. He took a breath and continued, "This girl has a clean background. Last night I saw her selling herself on the roadside to bury her father. After asking about her family background, I bought her back. Now she's with Ruoyue."

At the mention of the name "Ruoyue", Chi Liyin's face looked a bit ugly.

Cheng Xiran wanted to know every detail, so Xue Lianyu told her everything. This girl didn't even have a name since she was a child. She fled from famine all the way from the south. Her background was clean enough. Besides, she only had her father, who unfortunately passed away on the way. So she came to the capital just to get something to eat.

After hearing his description of how decent-looking the girl was, Cheng Xiran suddenly asked, "Isn't it a bit of a pity to let such a proper girl do such a thing?"

But Xue Lianyu said confidently, "No. She said she was willing to learn anything. I think she's quite sincere. I guess this girl has been poor all her life, so she's willing to seize any opportunity now."

"Then you make the arrangements. Get her started as soon as possible and then arrange for her to meet my father. I'm afraid it will be difficult to act if it's too late."

Cheng Xiran had no more concerns. Xue Lianyu nodded in agreement. Chi Liyin beside them was completely confused and didn't understand what they were talking about at all.

Just as she was about to ask, Cheng Xiran preempted her and changed the subject, "Since you're free, Young Master Xue, why don't you take Liyin out for a stroll? I'm busy writing my manuscript and I won't be able to spare any time for a while."

She looked so sincere that Xue Lianyu couldn't refuse. He could only nod and agree, "Okay then."

Watching the two of them bickering and going downstairs noisily, their voices of teasing each other could still be heard from afar. This made Cheng Xiran both amused and helpless. "Could it be that Xue Lianyu already has different feelings for Liyin in his heart, but he just hasn't realized it yet?"
