Chapter 33: Head-on Confrontation

When He Qianshan returned to the company, as soon as he stepped through the door, Fu Heng rushed towards him with a long face.

"Boss, you're finally back!" He let out a couple of whimpers, looking like a wronged daughter-in-law. "General Manager Song is so terrifying. He almost tore down your office."

He Qianshan gave him a reassuring look, signaling him to calm down. Without pausing his steps, he walked straight towards the office.

Fu Heng trotted after him. Thinking about the possible fight between the uncle and nephew later, he couldn't help but feel a bit timid.

If they really fought and he stood by or tried to stop them fairly, he would surely end up on both of their blacklists, and his days would be tough from then on. If he took He Qianshan's side, General Manager Song, that petty man, would surely take revenge on him.

It's so hard being a wage earner!

As if hearing his thoughts, when they were almost at the office door, He Qianshan suddenly stopped, turned his head, and said to him, "You can go back to work. No need to follow me."

Fu Heng felt like he had received amnesty. "Sure. I'll go back to work on the report then."

The moment he turned around, he suddenly thought it was too obvious that he was running away, which might not be good.

So he turned back and said insincerely, "Can you handle it alone? Do you really not need me to protect you?"

He Qianshan looked at his insincere expression and waved his hand, trying not to laugh. "No need."

After getting his confirmation, Fu Heng ran away like the wind, as if he would be caught back if he was a second slower.

He Qianshan straightened his clothes, placed his hand on the doorknob, and pressed hard. The lock clicked open.

He pushed the door open and saw a mess on the floor. Documents were scattered everywhere.

Song Jiancheng was slumped in the office chair, with his feet on the desk, flipping through a document in his hand.

Hearing the door open, he didn't even lift his eyelids.

He Qianshan wasn't angry. He paced over, avoiding the documents on the floor along the way. "Oh, what happened here? Did it get robbed?"

He was indirectly calling him a thief!

Song Jiancheng was so angry that he threw down the document and glared at him coldly. "Finally willing to come back?"

"Ah! Uncle, it's you!" He Qianshan was truly an actor. He managed to show the right amount of surprise and guilt on his face. "Sorry, I didn't know it was you. I was just joking. Don't take it to heart."

He was clearly doing it on purpose!

Song Jiancheng exposed him mercilessly. "Your assistant must have called to inform you. How could you not know I was here? I think you don't take me, an old man, seriously. You're deliberately ignoring me to make me look bad!"

"Uncle, you're really wronging me." He Qianshan was as good at lying as Wu Pengpeng. "My phone ran out of battery and turned off. I didn't receive the call. If I had known you were coming, I would have been back earlier."

As he spoke, he took out his phone from his overcoat pocket and showed it to Song Jiancheng. Sure enough, it was off.

Song Jiancheng knew he was doing it on purpose, but since he had no evidence, he had to hold back.

He snorted and took on the airs of an elder to scold him. "Pay more attention to the company's affairs. Don't be so idle all day. You left before the annual meeting ended last night, leaving all the guests there. What kind of behavior is that!"

He was taking advantage and acting innocent. This old man was playing dirty.

He Qianshan didn't give him any face either. He said with a smile, "You've been in charge of the annual meeting every year. I was just worried that I would steal your thunder if I was there."

What he meant was that as long as he, He Qianshan, was around, Song Jiancheng would always be a supporting role.

Song Jiancheng's face darkened, and he scolded coldly, "You can play around all you want, but don't make excuses for yourself!"

As he spoke, he took out a stack of photos from beside him and threw them on the desk. The photos slid in front of He Qianshan due to inertia.

He Qianshan glanced down and saw that they were all photos of him and Wu Pengpeng at the Lanting Club just now.

Actually, He Qianshan had known for years that Song Jiancheng had been doing some sneaky things behind his back. He had always turned a blind eye and pretended not to know.

But this time, Wu Pengpeng was involved, so he couldn't just stand by.

He looked up at Song Jiancheng, and his smiling face darkened. "It seems Uncle cares about me so much."

Song Jiancheng felt a sudden jolt in his heart when He Qianshan's cold eyes swept over him.

He had been at odds with his nephew for so many years and knew He Qianshan quite well.

He usually saw He Qianshan smiling at him, but there was not a shred of sincerity in it. But due to their status, He Qianshan wouldn't fall out with him.

But whenever He Qianshan looked at someone coldly like this, that person usually didn't end up well.

Song Jiancheng swallowed silently and glared at him bravely on the outside but timidly on the inside. He quickly shifted the blame. "If I don't keep an eye on you, who knows when you'll squander away the Song family's business!"

He Qianshan stared at him without blinking, as if trying to freeze him with his eyes. "Uncle, are you doubting that I'm not a member of the Song family?"

He leaned forward slightly, reached across the table, opened the small drawer in front of Song Jiancheng, took out a document, and threw it in front of him. "Since Uncle has such a bad memory, take a good look at this!"

Song Jiancheng didn't need to look to know the result. This paternity test was done when He Qianshan was brought back to the Song family.

He Qianshan had gone missing when he was eight years old and wasn't found until ten years later.

On the day he was brought back, he insisted on taking a paternity test before even entering the Song family's mansion. He didn't move into the Song family until the results came out.

He Qianshan bent his index finger and gently tapped on the document on the table. His voice sounded especially intimidating amidst the tapping. "You'd better take a few photos of this for reference. If you forget someday, you can look at them again!"

Song Jiancheng was attacked with veiled insults. His old face couldn't take it anymore, and he didn't care about maintaining the dignity of an elder.

He pointed at He Qianshan's nose and shouted, "He Qianshan, if you really consider yourself a member of the Song family, why are you so reluctant to change your surname?"

Hearing this, He Qianshan gave him a cold look, and his voice was as cold as ice. "Grandma agreed that I didn't need to change my surname back then. I took my mother's surname and also followed Grandma's wishes. If you want to change my surname, please ask those two elders first if they agree."

The two elders he mentioned had been dead for many years. He was practically cursing him to die!

Song Jiancheng couldn't bear such humiliation and wanted to stand up and slap He Qianshan.

He got up too quickly, and the wheels of the chair slipped. He almost fell off the chair.

Fortunately, He Qianshan reacted quickly. He grabbed him and pressed him into the guest chair beside him as if he were picking up a chick.

Before Song Jiancheng could recover from this sudden incident, he heard He Qianshan say coldly, word by word, "This chair was custom-made for me. It may not be suitable for others. Uncle is getting old. It's better not to sit on it, or Aunt and the younger siblings will be worried if you get hurt."
