chapter 1 Extra: The Long Road Home (Part 2) — Jiang He Arc

Wu Jiangyue wasn't originally that aggrieved. But when she heard Jiang He comforting her, she suddenly really felt wronged, and tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Jiang He didn't know how to comfort others. He reached out his hand, wanting to wipe her tears, but didn't dare to touch her. His hand froze in mid - air as he looked at her helplessly.

His helpless look was so cute that it instantly hit Wu Jiangyue's cuteness button. She couldn't help but break into a smile through her tears.

"Alright, I won't cry anymore." She reached out to smooth the wrinkles between his eyebrows. "Don't frown."

Jiang He then smiled and handed the cotton candy to her again. "Here, it's for you."

"Where did you get it?" Before, she had given Jiang He some pocket money, but he didn't want it.

Wu Jiangyue thought that since he had been following her all the time, she didn't force him to take the money. He had no money on him, so she wondered where the cotton candy came from.

Jiang He pointed to a small cotton candy shop behind them. "The boss gave it to me."

Wu Jiangyue looked in the direction he pointed. The young female shop owner was smiling at Jiang He. Apparently, she was charmed by Jiang He's good looks.

"So our Jiang He has the potential to be a gigolo!" Wu Jiangyue retracted her gaze sourly. Then, taking the cotton candy from Jiang He's hand, she quickly ate it up.

Seeing the sugar stain on her face, Jiang He reached out to wipe it off. "Don't be in a hurry. Eat slowly."

Wu Jiangyue took the stick from his hand and threw it into the trash can beside them. Then she walked back and took Jiang He's wrist. "But even if you're going to be a gigolo, you can only eat what I feed you. Do you understand?"

Jiang He was pulled along by her and walked forward step by step. A smile gradually appeared on his lips. "I understand."

The two walked through the bustling market. It wasn't until they reached the stall that Wu Jiangyue let go of his hand. She took out a lollipop from the shopping bag on the fish cart and handed it to him. "Here, it's for you."

Jiang He gave her a confused look, not knowing why she treated him like a child.

Wu Jiangyue gave him a gentle smile and said lovingly, "I saw a little kid eating a lollipop just now. You were staring at him all the time."

Jiang He didn't expect that such a small action of his had been noticed by her. He rubbed his nose shyly.

Actually, he didn't really want to eat the lollipop. When he saw the kid sucking on the lollipop just now, he felt a strange sense of familiarity, so he stared at him for a few more seconds.

Seeing that he didn't take it, Wu Jiangyue thought he was being shy. She tore open the wrapper and held it to his mouth. "Eat it. If other kids have it, our Jiang He should have it too."

Jiang He opened his mouth instinctively and bit the lollipop. The sweet taste instantly spread from his taste buds all the way to his heart.

When they got back to the island from the market, as soon as Wu Jiangyue got off the boat, she heard someone calling her.

She looked in the direction of the voice. Abu was running towards her from afar on the beach, waving at her as he ran. "Wu Jiangyue!"

"What's up? Do you want another beating?" Seeing him running towards her like a rocket, Wu Jiangyue instinctively dodged.

Abu ran too fast and almost fell to the ground. He glared at her angrily. "I found something of your child - bridegroom on the beach."

He took out a card from his pocket and handed it to her. "This is your child - bridegroom, right?"

It was an ID card. Wu Jiangyue took it and had a look. The photo on it was indeed Jiang He. And when she saw the name, it was also Jiang He.

Wu Jiangyue thrust the ID card in front of Jiang He and said excitedly with a big smile, "So your name is really Jiang He!"

Seeing her excited look, Jiang He couldn't help but smile with his eyes curved. "What a coincidence!"

Wu Jiangyue held his ID card and looked at it from all angles, loving it so much. "December 30th, 1999. So you're one year older than me. But you look so young. On TV, they say people like you have... "

She wracked her brains for a long time but still couldn't think of that unfamiliar word.

Jiang He smiled and helped her finish. "Youthful charm."

"Yes, yes, that's it, youthful charm." Wu Jiangyue looked at Jiang He and the more she looked, the better he looked. "You really have so much youthful charm!"

Being praised by her, Jiang He felt a bit shy. He took the fish cart from her hand and pushed it for her. "Let's go. Let's go home."

Hearing the words "go home", Wu Jiangyue's heart suddenly skipped a beat for no reason.

Did his saying "go home" mean that he had already regarded that place as their home?

In the future, they would have a real home of their own and their own children...

"Why aren't you coming?" Jiang He had walked quite a distance. Seeing that Wu Jiangyue hadn't followed, he turned around and called her.

"I'm coming." Wu Jiangyue ran towards him with a smile that couldn't be hidden on her face.

After that, Jiang He went to the market with Wu Jiangyue every day to sell fish. Thanks to his good looks, Wu Jiangyue's fish always sold the best.

Every time after selling the fish, Wu Jiangyue would always buy a lot of snacks for him.

Actually, Jiang He didn't like snacks, but since she liked to feed him, he would accept them with a smile.

Soon, everyone in the market knew that the good - looking fish - selling young man liked lollipops.

The young lady from the milk tea shop next door fell in love with him at first sight. But unfortunately, he was watched so closely by Wu Jiangyue that no one was allowed to get close to him.

Today, finally, when Wu Jiangyue was not around, the young lady made the signature milk tea of the shop and took a whole box of lollipops to find Jiang He.

"Jiang He, this is made by me for you." As soon as the young lady saw him, her heart was pounding so hard that she didn't even dare to look into his eyes.

Jiang He refused coldly. "I don't want it."

"Why?" The young lady was so sad to be rejected.

Jiang He said indifferently, "I don't like sweet food."

He didn't even bother to make up an excuse. The young lady almost hated him out of love. "Then why do you eat lollipops every day?"

Jiang He looked as if it was a matter of course. "Because they're bought by Jiangyue!"

The young lady's confession failed, and instead, she was stuffed with a mouthful of dog food. Just as she was about to leave angrily, she saw Jiang He suddenly stand up with a big smile on his face. "You're finally back."

Wu Jiangyue trotted over with a shopping bag in her hand. "I met Aunt Zhang next door. She insisted on chatting with me. Have you been waiting for a long time?"

Jiang He nodded aggrievedly. "I'm hungry."

Wu Jiangyue peeled a lollipop and stuffed it into his mouth. Then she reached out her hand to him with a smile. "Let's go. Let's go home."

In a blink of an eye, more than half a year had passed. Jiang He gradually became more outgoing and didn't always need Wu Jiangyue to be by his side.

Recently, he was obsessed with diving. Every day after selling the fish, he would go diving in the sea. Wu Jiangyue would cook at home and wait for him to come back.

That day, she hadn't finished cooking dinner when she heard footsteps in the yard. Without even turning her head, she said, "Dinner isn't ready yet. If you're hungry, eat some snacks first."

There was no response from outside. Wu Jiangyue thought something had happened to him. She grabbed a spatula and ran out of the kitchen.

But the person standing in the yard was Chen Cheng, and he was carrying a lot of things in his hands.

"Jiangyue." Seeing her come out, Chen Cheng put the things on the table and walked towards her excitedly.

Wu Jiangyue instinctively took a step back. "What are you doing here?"

Chen Cheng could tell her repulsion. He stood still in place and scratched his head nervously. "I came to see you."

Wu Jiangyue was worried that Jiang He would come back suddenly. She was afraid that it would be hard to explain, so she quickly issued an order to evict the guest. "Now that you've seen me, take your things and go back!"

Seeing her cold attitude, Chen Cheng felt a bit sad. He took out a small velvet box, opened it, and held it in front of Wu Jiangyue. "This is a ring I bought for you."

"I don't need it." Wu Jiangyue quickly took two steps back, afraid that he would force the ring on her.

Chen Cheng chased after her unwillingly. "Jiangyue, I like you..."

Wu Jiangyue tried to avoid him. "I don't like you."

"Why? When we were kids, you said you would marry me when you grew up." Chen Cheng looked sad. Obviously, he didn't believe that she would say such a thing.

"That was just a joke between kids." Seeing his sad look, Wu Jiangyue also felt a bit guilty. She softened her tone. "Acheng, don't waste your time on me. I'm not worth it..."

"Do you like that idiot?" Chen Cheng suddenly interrupted her loudly.

He had just heard yesterday that half a year ago, Wu Jiangyue had picked up an idiot by the river. The two of them had been getting along day and night, and their relationship was very close.

He quickly asked for leave from the company and flew back from abroad overnight. But unfortunately, it was still too late.

Hearing him say that about Jiang He, Wu Jiangyue said coldly, "Don't you dare say that about Jiang He. He has a name, and besides, he's not stupid at all!"

After saying that, she still felt angry. She added angrily, "Even if he were really an idiot, I would still like him!"

Chen Cheng felt like he had been sentenced to death by her words. He was both angry and resentful.

They had been childhood sweethearts and had grown up together. He had always thought that they would get married, have children, and spend their whole lives together.

Unexpectedly, she had been snatched away by someone else, and that someone was even an idiot.

He stood there for a while before saying sadly, "What's wrong with me compared to him?"

"You don't need to compare with him. You're a good person, but I don't like you." Wu Jiangyue just wanted to get rid of him quickly, so her attitude was very perfunctory.

Chen Cheng was irritated by her attitude. "Wu Jiangyue, there was an engagement between our two families. If it weren't for my family's help back then, your family would have starved to death."

Hearing him mention the old things, Wu Jiangyue felt even more annoyed. She said coldly, "I'll pay you back..."

"Then pay me back with yourself." Chen Cheng's eyes turned cold. Suddenly, he stepped forward, held Wu Jiangyue's face with both hands, and was about to kiss her.

Wu Jiangyue was pinned against the wall. Just as she was about to hit him with the spatula in her hand, someone punched Chen Cheng to the ground.

Jiang He straddled Chen Cheng and punched him hard in the face.

The two of them fought with each other. It was only when the neighbor came out that they were separated.

Jiang He also had some injuries on his face. His skin was originally fair, so a little bruise looked very shocking.

Wu Jiangyue felt both heart - ache and guilty. She used a boiled egg to treat his wound and scolded him seriously. "Don't fight with others anymore in the future. Do you understand?"

Jiang He gave her a reassuring smile. "It's okay. He's in a worse state than me."

As soon as Wu Jiangyue saw his smile, all her anger disappeared. "Do you want to drink? I brewed some plum wine myself."

Jiang He's eyes sparkled. "Sure!"
