Chapter 12: Collective Conflict

Go and settle the score with her?

Oh, another weirdo who likes to blame the victim.

Hua Qingqing looked at the ax that she had polished until it shone. Old buddy, it's time to take you to work again.

The gate of the yard was pounded loudly, and there was a noisy commotion outside.

Hua Qingqing walked out of the small room with the ax in her hand.

Yu Linyun was hiding behind a tree, looking at her with a bit of schadenfreude.

"Don't blame me for not warning you. Grandma Dahu is not someone to be trifled with."

Hua Qingqing didn't say a word.

This little girl was a bit smarter than her younger brother, but not by much. Her little cleverness wasn't used on her studies. It was probably affected by the family environment of the Yu family. There was something wrong with her head, and she always targeted the original body aggressively.

For example, she made the original body do all kinds of odd jobs at home, including but not limited to washing clothes, cleaning, looking for pig grass, feeding chickens and so on.

But for now, there was no one better to use, so she might as well make do with this girl.

Hua Qingqing squinted her eyes and waved to Yu Linyun.

Yu Linyun walked over reluctantly.

"What?"

Hua Qingqing showed a gentle smile.

"I want to make a deal worth two eggs with you."

There was a crowd of onlookers outside the Yu family's gate.

Among them, an obese old woman had an especially loud voice. Spit flew everywhere as she waved her arms from front to back. Even a battlefield commander wasn't as "mighty" as she was at that moment.

"Hua Qingqing, open the door! You beat my Dahu like this. His arm is swollen. Are you too scared to come out?"

"Everyone come and take a look! Hua Qingqing beat someone!"

"My Gouzi is the same. Look at how red his leg is!"

"And mine..."

Grandma Dahu's surname was Qian. She and Grandma Fang were known as the "Two Overbearing Women" in the Wuxing Production Brigade. Overbearing and unreasonable, no one usually dared to provoke them.

Grandma Qian used to be a maid serving a landlord's daughter. During the war, the landlord's family fled abroad in a hurry, leaving behind a big house and giving Grandma Qian money to look after it. As a result, while looking after it, she regarded the house as her own.

Even more amazingly, Grandma Qian first emptied the house of her former master, and then during the chaotic period, she joined the revolutionary organization and smashed the beautiful big house to pieces.

However, only the older generation knew about this past. In this era, there were no surveillance cameras, so there was no evidence to hold her accountable.

When Grandma Qian was shouting recklessly and getting excited, with a "creak", the door opened.

Grandma Qian immediately put her hands on her hips and stepped forward. But seeing something, she was so frightened that she stepped back again and again.

The person who came out behind the door was holding an ax horizontally in front of her. The white blade glistened. One would probably bleed if they accidentally touched it.

So Hua Qingqing couldn't win with words and was resorting to force?

Grandma Qian thought to herself that she wasn't easy to mess with and wouldn't be afraid of a yellow-haired girl. Since she dared to come, she wouldn't stop until she peeled a layer of skin off the girl!

She pointed at Hua Qingqing and shouted angrily, "What, do you want to kill someone? You beat my grandson, and now you want to beat his grandma too!"

Then she turned to the onlookers and wailed.

"It's unjust! Bullying an old person! We just came to ask for an explanation, and she, Hua Qingqing, wants to kill someone. Isn't this just a bully?"

It was really in Grandma Qian's style to call an honest eighteen - year - old girl a bully.

Hua Qingqing smiled, "Grandma Qian starts spreading rumors as soon as she comes. Does having an ax mean I want to kill someone? Then your family has axes and big knives. How many people have you killed? Is the foundation of your house built on people?"

Saying this, she shook the ax in her hand. Her eyes suddenly turned cold as she stared closely at Grandma Qian.

"I'm holding this ax just to have a good talk with you, Grandma Qian. After all, you were really good at what you did in the revolutionary organization before. With your imposing manner today, people who don't know might think that the honest poor - peasant Yu family has committed some great crime and you're here to tear down our house! But even if we've made a mistake, it should be the police who come. What do you want to do, Grandma Qian? Break into a private house? Start a fight? That's illegal!"

Grandma Qian was confused by her words.

She came to Hua Qingqing to seek justice for her grandson. How did it turn into it being about her? And she even brought up the revolutionary organization. That incident had been over for three years, and her glory days were long gone. She didn't want to talk about the past. It wasn't a good thing anyway.

Grandma Qian suddenly felt that this trip of hers wasn't going to end well. But no matter how it was, it was just a little girl. She couldn't escape from her palm!

She took a step forward and said sternly, "Don't put words in my mouth. I'm here today just because of you beating my grandson Dahu. Look at what you've done to him. A girl being so fierce. You'll have a hard time getting married!"

Hua Qingqing's face darkened. "He only told you that I beat him, but didn't tell you why I beat him?"

Dahu was glanced at and felt extremely guilty. He hid behind his grandma.

Grandma Qian's cloudy eyes flashed with a fierce light. "You're wrong for beating someone. No matter what, you shouldn't beat people. If there's something, you can talk it out nicely. Even if they did something wrong, you could come to us and let the adults educate them!"

The other teenagers' elders around them responded one after another, their voices full of indignation.

Hua Qingqing let out a cold laugh, but there was no trace of amusement on her dark little face.

"Why can't I beat him? Am I a cheap person? Should I just be bullied by your grandson? You all come here together today. Isn't it just because my parents aren't around? It's so ridiculous. You didn't educate him before he bullied others. You only start lecturing after the fact! If the son is not educated, it's the father's fault. Your son is just like that. How can your grandson be any good? I suggest you send him to a reform - through - labor camp for some time. Maybe when he comes out, you'll have a good grandson."

Grandma Qian's head was buzzing. She pointed at Hua Qingqing and stammered, unable to say a complete sentence for a long time.

Hua Qingqing kept talking.

"According to your logic, if he bullies me today and I can't beat him, and if I do, you'll come and pick on me and say it's my fault. Then if Dahu beats other kids in the brigade tomorrow, will you also say it's the others' fault and pick on other families?"

"Where is there such a thing? The revolutionary organization is no longer around. This is not the time for you to show off your power. Even if you want to pick a fight, you have to be reasonable. The people in our Wuxing Production Brigade do things uprightly. We're not people who can be bullied casually!"

These words were sonorous and forceful, successfully turning a personal conflict into a collective one.

The people from the brigade who had come to "punish" Hua Qingqing began to hesitate.

Who didn't know that Dahu was fierce and evil? When he was younger, no child in the brigade hadn't been bullied by him. Now that he was a bit older and seemed more sensible, he bullied people less. But that was only because he didn't bully those who played with him. If their own kids fell out with him one day, wouldn't they be bullied again?

What Hua Qingqing said made a lot of sense.

The Qian family was not a good bunch. If their kids were bullied, they might not be able to get justice. Maybe Hua Qingqing today would be them tomorrow!

Moreover, their own kids were originally very well - behaved. It was only after playing with Dahu that they started to become disliked by others...

Almost at the same time, the parents of several teenagers reacted and pulled their own kids back.
