Chapter 23: Discovering Clues

On the other side, Yong Shanling, who had already given the medicine to Huang Dahai and placed a contract on him, was idly glancing at the TV and occasionally looking out the door.

"Uncle, why isn't he back yet? Humph~ He just left me alone. He even forgot I'm his bodyguard!" Yong Shanling huffed, her lips pouting so much it seemed an oil bottle could hang on them.

Suddenly, Yong Shanling's expression changed. She perked up her ears and immediately broke into a beaming smile. The whole person seemed like a painted figure that had been brought to life, becoming lively.

Just as Mu Yijie parked his car, he saw a figure in pale green flutter over and suddenly pounce on him.

"Uncle, you're finally back. I've been waiting for you so long I was about to wither away," Yong Shanling said pitifully, wrapping her arms around Mu Yijie's waist.

Mu Yijie felt the softness in his arms and uncomfortably tried to move away a bit. Who would have thought that the little girl sensed his movement and hugged even tighter.

"Uncle, next time, no matter what I'm doing, you have to take me with you. Nothing is more important than you, Uncle. Do you understand?" The little girl glared angrily with wide eyes, like a feisty kitten, and softly admonished.

Mu Yijie's heart was filled with warmth, and his tightly knitted brows gradually relaxed. He strode forward, taking the opportunity to pull the little girl out of his arms and holding her hand tightly.

The little girl was still chattering on about the importance of taking her along. Mu Yijie casually grabbed the milk on the table and stuffed it into her hand.

"If you can't even eat properly, how can you be a good bodyguard?" Mu Yijie's words made Yong Shanling's eyes dart around but not look at him.

"Well... um, I had something to do today. I just forgot all of a sudden."

Mu Yijie slowly moved his face closer to Yong Shanling and said, "Really? I thought you deliberately left it and didn't want to drink it."

Yong Shanling's heart immediately skipped a beat. She wracked her brains for a solution. In a hurry, she gulped down the milk in one go.

"Uncle, I really forgot. Look, I've finished it all."

Yong Shanling's cherry - red lips were covered with white milk. Her eyes were still misty from drinking too quickly, which made Mu Yijie's throat go dry. He uncomfortably shifted his gaze.

"Yeah, of course I believe you," Mu Yijie said hoarsely.

Yong Shanling immediately got anxious. "Uncle, are you sick? You should drink some hot water quickly." With that, she rushed to the kitchen in a hurry.

The little girl's anxious look made Mu Yijie forget all his thoughts. He quickly grabbed her hand. But Yong Shanling had exerted too much force, and due to the reaction, she suddenly plunged into Mu Yijie's arms.

This rekindled the spark that had just been extinguished in Mu Yijie's heart.

"Uncle, don't hold me back. Ah! Your face is so red. Are you running a fever..."

The little girl's endless chatter made Mu Yijie's head ache even more. He felt so ashamed. He had had a reaction to a naive little girl.

"I'm fine. Maybe it's too hot outside. Well, I have something to ask you."

Mu Yijie quickly changed the subject. He took out the jade pendant and handed it to Yong Shanling.

Hearing there was something, Yong Shanling, who had already perked up, quickly took the jade pendant and carefully examined it in her hand.

"Hey, one side is written with words like 'seal' and 'suppress', and this side, isn't it the strange beast Qituo? Only a great master could make this jade pendant. But there are some characters I don't understand. I'm sure it's a sealing magical artifact." Yong Shanling rubbed the jade pendant, her brows tightly knitted. Although she was proficient in formations, she had never seen a part of this formation before.

"What I've found out is the same as what you said. This jade pendant was given to me by a Taoist priest from Yunshan. It was to prevent the demons from detecting my presence. But now—"

Yong Shanling's heart stirred. She smiled and said, "Uncle, the jade pendant is broken. We can just ask someone to make another one for you."

Mu Yijie nodded. "I've already sent someone to look for information. Such a great master must have left some traces in the world."

"Yunshan? This name sounds so familiar. I seem to have heard it somewhere," Yong Shanling mused. Liu Lingtong whispered in her ear, "The Gu Diao mentioned it."

Yong Shanling immediately remembered. She excitedly grabbed Mu Yijie's hand. "Uncle, but the Gu Diao said before it died that my bell belonged to a Taoist priest named Yunshan. I didn't pay much attention at that time. Now it seems this Yunshan knew my master."

She thoughtfully pinched her chin and then thought about it and called Jiang Chengzi.

However, the phone rang for a long time but no one answered. "I guess he's gone into seclusion with some friend again," Yong Shanling said helplessly, shrugging her shoulders.

So she sent a text message to Jiang Chengzi.

Mu Yijie narrowed his eyes slightly. "It seems we can only wait for the news."

While waiting for the news, Yong Shanling asked for the jade pendant. She planned to study those characters she had never seen before carefully.

In the afternoon, just as the two were about to go to the company after dinner, Assistant Fang called.

"Mr. Mu, according to the information I've investigated, this Taoist priest Yun has rarely appeared in front of people in recent years, and the places he has appeared are not fixed at all. Some are in the country and some are abroad. However, one place he appeared in recent years is a villa in Banqiao Town."

Mu Yijie's sword - shaped eyebrows knitted tightly. He said in a deep voice, "Send me all the places he has appeared over the years, as well as the location of that villa. By the way, do you have a photo of that Taoist priest?"

Assistant Fang replied with a bitter face, "No. That guy is very mysterious. There are no images of him in the places he has appeared. If it weren't for people saying they've seen him with their own eyes, I would have thought there was no such person in the world. And when I asked them to describe his appearance specifically, they couldn't do it. They all said he was a serious old man."

Mu Yijie wasn't surprised by the assistant's words. After all, he was a cultivator.

"Uncle, let's set off today to find that old Taoist priest," Yong Shanling said excitedly, clenching her fist.

"Are you going out?" Suddenly, a shocked voice came.

The two turned their heads and saw Li Zhuo and Hou Hua, who was following him with a look of disgust, slowly walking over.

Glancing at Mu Yijie, Yong Shanling whispered, "We're going to a villa to find a great master."

Immediately, Li Zhuo's eyes lit up. "Take me with you, take me with you. Life without challenges is driving me crazy."

Hou Hua followed up, "Wherever he goes, I go."

Mu Yijie didn't refuse. Hou Hua could still be of some help.

The group quickly drove to Banqiao Town. When they got there, they found that this town was much more desolate than an ordinary village.

The group stood on the somewhat dilapidated stone bridge. Li Zhuo blurted out, "Damn it, this doesn't look like a normal town at all!"
