Chapter 6 I Don’t Want to Walk with You

Chi Xu shook his head regretfully again. His deep voice was as lingering as a lover's whisper.

"Oh, it seems you don't need a guide," he said.

As his voice faded, Chi Xu turned sideways and was about to leave.

Jiang Yuan watched his action. Her pupils trembled slightly. She loosened her clenched fist, and her heart ached a little.

Sure enough... Chi Xu was still as annoying as ever...

Damn Chi Xu, stinky Chi Xu! He clearly knew what was going on but pretended not to. Didn't the past friendship count at all? Was it so hard for him to give her a guiding hand?

Jiang Yuan turned her head away, feeling a bit wronged. The corners of her eyes turned a little red. "If you don't know, then forget it. I'll definitely find the classroom next time. I don't need you," she murmured in a low voice, with a hint of resentment. But she forgot that Chi Xu was just a few steps away from her, and her words floated gently into his ears.

Chi Xu let out a soft laugh. Suddenly, he turned around and drawled, "Aren't you coming? You'll be late."

Jiang Yuan was startled. Like a frightened little rabbit, her almond eyes widened in panic. Her fair skin seemed almost transparent in the sunlight.

"I don't want to walk with you," she said meekly, feeling a bit guilty. For a moment, she wondered if Chi Xu had heard her muttering.

Chi Xu sighed helplessly. "When did I say I wouldn't guide you?"

Jiang Yuan suddenly looked up at him, her eyes shining brightly. "You said it yourself that you'd guide me. You're not allowed to go back on your word."

"Yeah, I offered to guide you. It's the same whether it's two people or three."

Chi Xu smiled. "You're going to Duxing Building, right? We're from the same department, and that building is for our department."

"Freshman, if you don't hurry up, you'll really be late," Jia Fang, who had been sizing them up for a while, said. He put his arm around Chi Xu's shoulder and winked at Jiang Yuan.

He leaned forward and whispered, "It's the first time I've seen Brother Chi meddle in a girl's business. It's really rare."

Jiang Yuan was slightly stunned.

The first time he meddled in a girl's business?

How could that be?

She tugged at the corner of her mouth, and her smile gradually faded.

He must be just bored and playing with her.

Jia Fang got a flick on the head. Like a spring, he quickly stood up straight. He looked around and cursed angrily, "Who is it? Who dares to hit me on the head!"

Jiang Yuan silently pointed at Chi Xu.

Chi Xu raised his eyebrows with interest.

Jia Fang complained with snot and tears.

"Brother Chi, I'm doing this for your lifelong happiness. How could you treat your matchmaker like this? You'd better watch out for your future happiness."

The two of them said in unison, "Get out of here!"

Just before the class bell rang, Jiang Yuan arrived at the classroom.

As she stepped through the threshold with one foot and was about to step in with the other, she suddenly remembered something. She quickly stepped back, walked out of the classroom, and looked to the left.

Chi Xu and his friend were also on this floor.

Jiang Yuan just caught a glimpse of Chi Xu and Jia Fang entering the next classroom.

The class bell rang. Jiang Yuan sat down. Her friend Lin Suye was sitting on her left.

"Yuanyuan, why are you so late?" Lin Suye glanced at the teacher who was about to plug in the USB drive in front of the podium. She deliberately lowered her voice and asked curiously.

Jiang Yuan said, "I ran into Chi Xu."

Lin Suye stared at her with wide eyes.

"I came here with him. He's having class in the next classroom," Jiang Yuan added.

Lin Suye's eyes widened even more. They were round and full of excitement. She excitedly grabbed Jiang Yuan's arm and leaned in closer, looking both eager and nervous. "How was it? Did anything happen?"

Jiang Yuan smiled. "No."

"How could that be? This was a once - in - a - lifetime opportunity," she said disappointedly.

Jiang Yuan watched as the teacher in front of the podium had already opened the PPT. There was a soft rustling sound of turning pages around her. She took out her book and turned to the designated page. Then she replied a bit shyly.

"Actually... I forgot. I was about to be late. I didn't have the heart to think about anything else. I was just glad I wasn't late."

Lin Suye didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

After a long class, Jiang Yuan turned her head and looked out of the window.

The sky was gloomy, and the clouds were rolling. It was going to rain heavily.

Her roommate Lin Suye had an umbrella, which was just big enough for the two of them to get back to the dormitory.

It was the break time now. She would continue to have class in this classroom. She wondered if Chi Xu and his friends were still around.

Jiang Yuan lowered her head and reached into the desk. She felt something cold like metal. She tightened her grip and took it out. She skillfully opened QQ and saw Chi Xu's message page.

The four words "Long time no see" were still lying there all alone.

Like an abandoned child, lonely and pitiful, blinking its eyes and begging to be taken in.

Jiang Yuan's heart tightened. She murmured in a low voice, "You guided me to the classroom this morning. It's only reasonable for me to say thank you. Besides, I'm still trying to pursue you. I can't ignore you too much..."

She sent a message: "Chi Xu, thank you for this morning."

No, this message was too dry. She had to recall it.

Jiang Yuan quickly recalled the message. Unconsciously, she bit her nails while thinking about how to send a message, preferably one that would lead to a back - and - forth conversation.

"Chi Xu, I really appreciate you. I don't know what I would have done without you."

Ugh, it was too obsequious. Chi Xu would surely laugh at her, and she would be so embarrassed.

"Chi Xu, thank you for guiding me to the classroom this morning. I'll remember this kindness. I'll definitely repay you when I have the chance."

Repay his kindness? Why not just marry him?

She deleted it and started over.

"Chi Xu~ You're so nice. You don't hold a grudge. You know all the roads in the school so well. Your memory is really good."

It sounded too flirty. She deleted it.

She deleted and typed, typed and deleted over and over again.

Aah, why was she so bad at pursuing someone? Jiang Yuan was on the verge of tears.

Until a question mark popped up from the other side.

Chi Xu: "?"

Chi Xu: "What's wrong with you? Do you have ADHD? It's been a whole break, and it still shows that you're typing."

Jiang Yuan was startled and accidentally pressed the send button.

"Chi Xu~ Thank you so much for this morning~ You're so good to me~ Heehee~"

Jiang Yuan almost fainted.

What should she do? How could she have made such a blunder? How would Chi Xu look at her from now on?

Why was she so stupid? She was even stupider than Xianglinsao.

Jiang Yuan regretted her great idea of having a back - and - forth conversation. Now that there was a "back", she wished there was no "forth".

She turned her head, squinted her eyes, and trembled as she carefully felt for the power button on her phone. She gritted her teeth and long - pressed it. The phone was completely turned off.

Jiang Yuan let out a sigh of relief and slumped back against the desk behind her.

"Let me be an ostrich for now. Out of sight, out of mind. I'll save my face for now."
