Chapter 8: Beware of the Priest

"We're almost done with dinner. Mr. Bo, it's about time you left," He Ting put down his chopsticks and looked at Bo Jinnian.

"I'm honored," Bo Jinnian said and was about to stand up.

"Senior brother, I'll see you off," An Ke stood up and supported Bo Jinnian as they walked towards the door.

He Ting watched this scene, feeling slightly annoyed.

On the way to the door, An Ke whispered, "Beware of the priest."

Bo Jinnian looked at her in shock. He didn't know what An Ke meant, but due to years of mutual trust, he nodded and kept it in mind.

After seeing Bo Jinnian off, He Ting felt much better.

"An'an, shall we go shopping together?"

"No, not interested."

"I heard that Xia Li has a fan meeting in Chuanshan today," He Ting said casually, seemingly in a relaxed tone.

At the mention of Xia Li's name, An Ke's eyes lit up. She had liked Xia Li for a long time and dreamed of meeting her.

"I want to go," An Ke looked at He Ting with bright eyes.

He Ting was overjoyed. He knew that mentioning Xia Li would work.

"Okay, I'll take you there," He Ting said and reached out to hold An Ke's hand.

As soon as he grabbed her hand, she shook it off.

"I can walk by myself."

He Ting didn't reply. He just looked at her a bit dejectedly.

He Ting opened the passenger - side door of his new Lamborghini and protected An Ke's head as she got in. Then he got into the driver's seat.

"Fasten your seatbelt," He Ting bent down to help An Ke fasten her seatbelt. His warm breath made An Ke feel a bit short of breath.

"Thank you. I'll do it myself in the future," An Ke finally came to her senses and said slowly.

"I want to do things for you. I want to do anything for you," He Ting looked at her tenderly. An Ke couldn't meet his eyes and had to dodge them.

"Drive. Don't be late."

He Ting came back to his senses and drove away.

On the way to Chuanshan, An Ke looked at the familiar scenery outside the window with mixed feelings. It had been three years since she last came to this city. Everything seemed the same, yet also different.

"We're here," He Ting bent down again to help An Ke unfasten her seatbelt.

An Ke didn't say anything. She just let him do it.

An Ke got out of the car and noticed that many people were looking at her.

"Master He! It's Master He!" someone in the crowd shouted.

"Look, the girl next to him is his wife, right? Didn't she abandon Master He three years ago?" Suddenly, the crowd started to buzz.

An Ke thought to herself, What the hell? It wasn't me who wanted to leave him. It was he who wanted to kill me. Why are they putting all the blame on me?

"Follow me," He Ting turned back and said to her.

"Okay."

An Ke followed him into the inner venue. There she saw Xia Li, the girl she had loved for so many years.

The inner venue was filled with fans. They shouted, "Xia Li! Xia Li! Xia Li, we love you!" These were exactly the words she wanted to say to Xia Li.

Although An Ke, as a special agent, was more heartless than many people, she still had emotions. For example, towards He Ting, towards Bo Jinnian, and towards Xia Li.

Surprisingly, An Ke never used to be a fan of stars, but since she took a fancy to Xia Li, she had been deeply infatuated. It seemed that something was guiding her in the dark, and she liked Xia Li more and more. She couldn't let go of this feeling at all.

An Ke often saw her own shadow in Xia Li. When Xia Li was sad, when she was stubborn, An Ke even felt that Xia Li was another version of herself.

In the passionate atmosphere of the fans, An Ke also started to shout. She was surprised at herself, but suddenly she felt relieved.

He Ting was equally surprised to see An Ke like this, but he was also happy. He had never seen such a real An Ke before.

An Ke stared straight at Xia Li on the stage and was so excited that she even shed tears. An Ke was even more shocked when she realized she was crying. She rarely cried. She knew that she must have truly cared about Xia Li to react like this.

He Ting looked at An Ke and felt quite emotional. He had never seen her like this. He was really grateful to Xia Li for letting him see this side of An Ke. It had to be said that An Ke had good taste. In the big dye - vat of the entertainment industry, Xia Li was a rare clean and sensible person.

He had heard many businessmen scolding her for being falsely high - minded and unwilling to be with them. He had also heard many people saying that they wanted to ruin her. But she had persevered. Although she wasn't extremely famous, Xia Li had always been true to herself and hadn't lost herself in that smoky environment.

An Ke sang along with Xia Li.

Snowflakes, snowflakes.

One, two.

Longing, love.

You and me, tomorrow...

This was the first time He Ting heard An Ke sing. He was deeply intoxicated.

At the end of the fan meeting, Xia Li smiled and said to the fans, "Thank you for taking the time to come and see me. Thank you to those who came from far away to see me. Although I'm not good enough now and can't be your pride, because of you, I'll keep working hard to become a better self. I also hope that you can become better versions of yourselves."

The audience burst into applause, and the fans shouted, "Xia Li, we love you!" Although He Ting didn't like such a noisy environment, seeing An Ke so satisfied, he didn't mind it anymore.

After the fan meeting ended, everyone left the venue in an orderly manner. Only then did people notice He Ting, and the crowd began to whisper.

He Ting took An Ke back to the car. As soon as they got in, An Ke immediately fastened her own seatbelt.

"Thank you. I'm very happy."

"I'm happy when you're happy. It's my honor to make you happy," He Ting showed his smile. His smile always made people dazed.

An Ke didn't want to look at him. She didn't want her thoughts to be disrupted again. She had already made up her mind that she would divorce He Ting and leave him. An Ke was planning. She was waiting for a perfect opportunity to escape from him. She was also constantly restraining herself from having other feelings for He Ting. She was trying to make all her feelings for him turn into hatred.

An Ke looked at the birds outside the window and couldn't help but envy them. She envied their freedom. Unlike her, who wanted to escape but couldn't. An Ke shook her head to get rid of such thoughts. She thought she was being too sentimental. It seemed that a lot of what she had learned from her special - agent training had changed.

When they got home, He Ting got out of the car and opened the door for An Ke. He protected her head, afraid that she might get hurt.

"You can still stay in the room you used to live in. I've always had someone clean it up. You can move in. It's the third room on the second floor."

"Okay, thank you."
