Chapter 65

The cold words interrupted the pink bubbles in Tang Tang's mind.

"Is that all?"

"Yeah, what else do you want?" Zuo Mu showed his signature confused look.

Tang Tang felt as if she'd been punched hard in the heart. It hurt, and her head started to ache too.

Forget it, forget it. She couldn't expect this blockhead to understand.

Tang Tang huffed and stormed into the house.

Zuo Mu was usually so smart in academics, but when it came to feelings, he was inexperienced.

In school, as a talented student in the medical school and also good - looking, he'd received a continuous stream of love letters. However, Zuo Mu was fully focused on academic research and had no interest in this. Now, his heart had finally been opened a bit by a little girl, but he didn't even realize it.

Seeing Tang Tang's happy face turn gloomy in an instant, Zuo Mu was completely bewildered.

Inside the house, Tang Tang was still sulking on the sofa. Zuo Mu had accidentally discovered Tang Tang's private matter and, worse still, had ruined her relationship. Feeling guilty, he voluntarily suggested, "How about we order pizza tonight? You like that newly - opened pizza place, don't you?"

Tang Tang was a bit dejected but still nodded and said, "Sure."

Hearing this, Zuo Mu immediately took out his phone to place the order.

Looking at the oblivious Zuo Mu, Tang Tang was extremely dejected. She hugged the pillow glumly and thought to herself that getting angry with Zuo Mu was like self - torture. Zuo Mu was just a blockhead when it came to feelings!

He'd interfered in her private affairs without permission. Clearly, he was jealous but just wouldn't admit it. What's more, Tang Tang now seriously suspected that Zuo Mu didn't even realize his behavior today was out of jealousy!

Zuo Mu's love root must have been pulled out by some god!

Tang Tang angrily tugged at the Donald Duck in her hand.

Actually, Tang Tang had misunderstood. In Zuo Mu's life, the last time he'd stood up for a member of the opposite sex probably dated back to when he was a kid and helped his mom deal with a dishonest street vendor.

Now, the only opposite - sex person he'd stand up for was Tang Tang.

It was a pity that Tang Tang didn't know this and just assumed she was still just an ordinary lodger in Zuo Mu's eyes.

Sometimes she really wanted to know what was going on in Zuo Mu's head. When he was being a straight - laced guy, he could make her so angry, but his casual flirting could also make her heart flutter instantly.

Tang Tang stared directly at Zuo Mu, feeling her mind in a complete mess.

Gradually, her vision became blurry. Zuo Mu seemed to split into two, then three.

Then, in Zuo Mu's panicked eyes, Tang Tang slowly collapsed onto the sofa and immediately lost consciousness, knowing nothing.

Maybe it was due to the emotional stimulation, or perhaps the great stress from the previous period, and coupled with the chill she caught today, Tang Tang finally couldn't hold on and fell ill.

So, the heat on her face on the way was partly due to shyness and partly because she was really running a fever.

As for what happened after she fainted, Zuo Mu was so anxious that he even forgot to lock the door and only remembered to do so after being reminded by the neighbor. He rushed her to the nearest hospital in a hurry.

In the moment of crisis, Zuo Mu even forgot that he was a doctor himself.

Maybe it was because concern would make one lose their wits.

When they reached the emergency department and Tang Tang was on the drip, Zuo Mu felt a bit more at ease.

It was confirmed that Tang Tang had just passed out due to fatigue and fever.

Zuo Mu finally let out a sigh of relief.

He'd been out of sorts too many times today, completely unlike his former self.

Zuo Mu used to be jokingly called a "monk" by his classmates, meaning he'd never fall in love in his life. But recently, he'd been making exceptions one after another because of this little girl, Tang Tang.

Even the nurse who was giving Tang Tang the infusion just now had playfully asked, "Is she your little girlfriend? You're so anxious."

Zuo Mu's face flushed bright red at that time. Partly because of the anxiety and partly because of the teasing. Afraid of ruining Tang Tang's reputation, he quickly explained, "No, no. She's just a younger sister staying at my place temporarily. Her father has something to attend to, and I'm just taking care of her for a while."

"Really?" The older nurse smiled, looking rather disbelieving. "I don't believe it. Judging from how anxious you are, it doesn't seem like you're just a surrogate guardian. Young man, you're too young. My husband and I were just like this back then. I was so worried. That's when I decided he was the one for me."

The nurse clearly meant well and wanted him to look into his own heart.

Zuo Mu was stunned for a moment before responding, "Really?"

"Of course," the nurse nodded affirmatively. "Young man, if you miss out on love, you never know what'll happen in the future."

After adjusting the drip rate and tidying up her tray, the nurse gave a few instructions and then left.

However, inside the room, Zuo Mu fell into deep thought.

Tang Tang was sleeping quietly on the bed. Her little face was still flushed because the high fever hadn't subsided yet. Just now, when they took her temperature, it was almost 39 degrees. Zuo Mu was nearly frantic with worry and blamed himself, thinking that maybe his behavior this afternoon had been too extreme and that Tang Tang had fainted because of the stimulation.

After all the commotion, it was almost midnight.

There was even a call from the delivery guy in the middle. Only after hearing the reminder from the delivery guy on the phone did Zuo Mu remember that they hadn't even had dinner.

Looking at Tang Tang's pale little face after the fever had subsided, she looked even smaller and more haggard under the covers in the hospital ward. This sight made Zuo Mu have no appetite at all. All he wanted was to stay by Tang Tang's side and protect her.

Zuo Mu himself didn't understand where this mindset came from. He just wanted to protect Tang Tang and make her keep her happy and carefree smile. That would satisfy him.

If Huang Xiaoli, that smart - aleck, were here, she'd probably laugh at Zuo Mu for being deeply in love without realizing it and even wanting to be a guardian.

This was the kind of thing a backup lover would do. Zuo Mu clearly had the upper hand, but he was just too close to the situation to see it clearly and didn't seize the opportunity.

Tang Tang was sleeping soundly and deeply. She felt that after she fainted, Zuo Mu's anxious voice had been calling her constantly. But even in her dream, Tang Tang felt so exhausted that she just kept sleeping heavily and couldn't wake up no matter how much someone called.

Let me sleep. I'm so tired.

This was what Tang Tang thought before she lost her final consciousness.

The drip was on, and the fever had gone down. After confirming that Tang Tang's condition was stable, Zuo Mu was still worried. Fortunately, they were in a double - occupancy ward, so Zuo Mu didn't stand on ceremony and fell into a deep sleep beside her, still in his clothes.

Throughout the whole night, Zuo Mu didn't sleep well. His dreams were all about Tang Tang.

Happy, sad, angry. In the dream, Tang Tang was still so vivid and radiant, like a little sun, bringing vitality to Zuo Mu's routine life.

It was also in the dream that Zuo Mu suddenly realized how much his life had been changed because of Tang Tang.

Maybe in the past, he'd resisted love too much, so when there were signs of it, his first reaction was to nip it in the bud. But this time, it was clearly different.

Zuo Mu started to be full of misgivings.

This realization even made Zuo Mu in the dream twitch.

It was as if his inherent outlook on life had been shattered.
