Chapter 2: Small Wishes

After dealing with Bai Rongran, Rong Lan glanced behind her. Then she sat down on the wooden swing in the back garden, grabbed the ropes on both sides of the swing with both hands, and asked leisurely, "Who are you?"

If she guessed correctly, the transparent ghost following her now was the one who had called her "little fox" just now.

She hadn't had the time to talk to the ghost before, but now she did.

"I should be the original owner of this body," the ghost Bai Ronglan walked up to Rong Lan. "I'm from the future and have already lived a short life. Originally, when I came back to the past, I should have had a chance to be reborn. But obviously I was a step too late. My body has been occupied by a little fox."

God knows how complicated her feelings were as a by - stander when she saw a little fox with snow - white ears, a red tail and heterochromatic eyes in her own body.

Hearing what the ghost said, Rong Lan's alarm bells went off in her mind. She was afraid that the next second the ghost would take this body away. She had failed her tribulation and by chance had been reborn into this body, which meant it was a very important opportunity for her. What if the body was taken away and she was scattered like a wandering soul?

Seeing that the little fox was about to lose her temper, the ghost Bai Ronglan helplessly shook her head. Logically speaking, a fox spirit that had cultivated human nature should have lived for at least a hundred years. How could a fox spirit that had lived for a hundred years be so impatient?

"However, I've already lived a life and really don't want to go through it all over again. So I can give this body to you and won't fight you for it. On the condition that you promise to fulfill a few of my small wishes."

Rong Lan squinted her eyes. "Tell me."

After all, it wasn't exactly moral to occupy someone else's body. If Bai Ronglan wanted to take it back, she probably couldn't stop her. So it was better to have a good talk with Bai Ronglan, fulfill her wishes, and let Bai Ronglan lend her this body. She would return it after she cultivated into a fox immortal again.

"The first wish is to agree to marry Chu Hengyuan."

"Sure!" Rong Lan agreed without even thinking.

The ghost Bai Ronglan was surprised but didn't ask any more questions. She continued, "The second wish is that I want all the members of the Bai family to be ruined and abandoned by everyone. If possible, please let Bai Rongran suffer the same pain I did."

Rong Lan hesitated for only a second. "That's okay too!"

"The third wish is to make public the truth about the exchange of the two families' children twenty years ago."

This time, Rong Lan didn't hesitate at all. "No problem!"

The ghost Bai Rongran took a deep look at the little fox. "These are my only three small wishes. If you can help me fulfill them, this body will be yours."

"I will help you fulfill your wishes, but I won't occupy your body for too long. I'll return it to you after I cultivate into a fox immortal." Although she had no spiritual power at the moment, she still firmly believed that she could cultivate into a fox immortal.

One should always have a dream.

The little fox was persistent and determined. After thinking for a while, the ghost Bai Ronglan finally stepped closer, raised her hand, and her palm hovered above Rong Lan's head. "Okay, then I'll wait for you to cultivate into a fox immortal. Since you agreed so quickly, I'll give you a little gift."

As soon as the words were out, before Rong Lan could ask what the gift was, a sharp pain hit her forehead.

After she recovered from the sharp pain, a bunch of new memories appeared in her already chaotic mind, and the ghost that had been floating in front of her had disappeared.

Rong Lan looked around. Since she couldn't find the ghost, she stopped looking and silently lowered her head to sort out the new memories. The new memories were about Bai Ronglan's past life. Unfortunately, the memories were incomplete.

She only knew that in her past life, Bai Ronglan had married Chu Hengyuan, but she had married under the name of Bai Rongran, the real daughter of the Bai family.

After that, Bai Ronglan became the biggest joke in the social circle. Everyone in the circle knew her as Bai Ronglan, but after marrying Chu Hengyuan, she could only be Bai Rongran.

Later, no one knew what had happened. Someone had run away from the wedding, and Bai Rongran, who was supposed to marry Chu Hengyuan instead of Bai Ronglan, came back and regretted it. Since the original owner had married into the Chu family under the name of Bai Rongran, all Bai Rongran had to do to return to Chu Hengyuan's side was to make Bai Ronglan disappear.

So Bai Ronglan died.

"Can't this gift - giving be a bit more sincere?" Rong Lan was dumbfounded. "The missing memories are just too absurd." She couldn't figure out from the existing memories why Bai Ronglan wanted the entire Bai family to be destroyed. The existing memories only told her that only Bai Rongran in the Bai family had treated her badly.

She also couldn't figure out why Bai Ronglan still wanted to marry Chu Hengyuan. There weren't many things related to Chu Hengyuan in the memories, only a face, and it was quite good - looking.

Just as she was about to go through the memories from the beginning again, her phone rang.

She took out her phone and saw a message from Bai Rongran.

— Bai Ronglan! Come to the address I sent you!

Rong Lan raised her eyebrows. After searching for the address, she found that it was a coffee shop near the First People's Hospital.

Did Bai Rongran go to the hospital to buy a pregnancy test stick? Or was Bai Rongran planning to have an abortion without telling anyone and wanted her, the only person who knew besides the parties involved, to accompany her?

At the thought of this possibility, Rong Lan got excited. She immediately went out, took a taxi, and headed straight for the address Bai Rongran had sent her.

Then she saw Chu Hengyuan from her memories in the coffee shop.

"???" Where was Bai Rongran? Did Bai Rongran send her the message just to let her come and meet Chu Hengyuan?

Rong Lan was confused. Chu Hengyuan was also surprised to see Rong Lan here. He looked down at his phone and was absolutely sure that he hadn't sent the message to the wrong person. He had sent it to Bai Rongran.

Judging from the situation, it was obvious that Bai Rongran had just forwarded the message to Rong Lan.

The two accidentally locked eyes and both wore embarrassed but polite smiles on their faces.

Chu Hengyuan stood up and took the initiative to reach out his hand to Rong Lan. "Miss Bai."

Rong Lan hesitated for a moment but still stepped closer and shook Chu Hengyuan's hand. "Young Master Chu."

"Since you're already here, why don't you sit down, Miss Bai, and have a cup of coffee?" Chu Hengyuan asked tentatively, with his usual fake smile on his face.

Rong Lan remembered that she had promised the ghost something, so she didn't refuse. She followed Chu Hengyuan's words and sat down in the seat opposite him.

She secretly observed the causal lines on Chu Hengyuan and found something was more and more wrong.

According to Bai Rongran's description, Chu Hengyuan was a playboy. From her existing memories, Chu Hengyuan was the eldest young master of the Chu family and the legitimate son of the Chu family. His status was quite noble, similar to the only heir of a wealthy merchant in the era she was familiar with.

But looking at the causal lines, she could only sum up one word from Chu Hengyuan - poor.
