Chapter 28: The Generous Wife

Jiang BeiHuai noticed that Bai Wenxi had only eaten a little before leaving the table. After much thought, he felt something was amiss.

Fearing that she might be unwell but holding it in, he specifically came up to check on her.

"A Wen, did you lock the door just now?" Jiang BeiHuai's sturdy figure blocked the doorway as he looked down at Bai Wenxi from above.

The tips of Bai Wenxi's fingers gripping the doorknob were turning red. She casually joked, "No, I've just finished a phone call. I was thinking of going downstairs to chat with you all some more."

"Why would I lock the door in my own home? I'm not a thief."

Seeing the faint annoyance on her face, Jiang BeiHuai said nonchalantly, "I saw your curtains drawn tightly shut. Who were you discussing some big matter with?"

"Director Bai is really a busy person, even making phone calls at home."

Bai Wenxi then knew that he had already caught a glimpse of the scene in the bedroom through the French window.

Not wanting Jiang BeiHuai to notice anything, she deliberately changed the topic, "Have you all finished eating? I'll go downstairs and entertain Miss He some more."

"No need." Jiang BeiHuai stretched out his long arm to stop her and then hugged his wife into his arms. "A Wen, are you jealous?"

Jiang BeiHuai looked into Bai Wenxi's clear, glass-like eyes, with a storm brewing in his own.

He had just been hidden in the shadow of the staircase corner. Through the French window in the corridor, he had spied on his wife secretly making a phone call the whole time.

He wanted Bai Wenxi to be a beautiful canary. He wished he could hold her in the palm of his hand and cherish and protect her. But this little bird yearned too much for freedom and always wanted to escape his protection.

"No, why would you think so?" Bai Wenxi wrapped her arms around his slender waist and gently rested her head on her husband's chest.

"She accompanied you through the difficult times in your life when you were struggling outside. How could I be jealous of Miss He?"

Jiang BeiHuai grabbed Bai Wenxi's shoulders and suddenly pulled her away from him. He sneered icily.

"You're really generous. Aren't you even a little bit uncomfortable?" Instead, he felt a strange twist in his heart and an unnamed anger welled up. "I was chatting and laughing with her. Didn't you feel anything at all?"

Bai Wenxi still smiled gently. She gently raised her delicate hands and buttoned up the first button of his shirt.

"BeiHuai, we're all adults. Be more mature. Don't be childish."

Jiang BeiHuai felt stifled. He had clearly wanted his wife to be gentle, generous, and understanding.

But when he heard her say with her own mouth that she wasn't jealous of him getting along with other women, a sour taste welled up in his heart for no reason.

He pushed Bai Wenxi away and said coldly, "I'll go downstairs first."

Bai Wenxi staggered slightly from the push. She leaned against the door to steady herself, showing a complex expression.

Jiang BeiHuai, which one is the real you? The you who is aloof and the you who confides your true feelings to me?

"Feifei, I'll ask the driver to take you back to school after you've finished eating." Jiang BeiHuai strode into the dining room like a shooting star and directly informed He Feifei.

"Ah, why?"

He Feifei quickly swallowed the food in her mouth and complained coquettishly, "I've just come, and you're already trying to drive me away?"

"You have such a big house. Isn't there a room for me to sleep in? I was thinking that you could accompany me around for a few days."

Jiang BeiHuai rubbed the bridge of his nose, unable to hide his exhaustion. "Feifei, can you stop being so naughty? I'll come to find you when I'm free some other time."

He Feifei didn't buy it at all. She directly questioned him, "You always say you'll be free. You said the same thing when you were with your sister. Now that you're with your wife, you're still saying the same thing."

"Why do I always have to wait for you? Are you really that busy?"

"Feifei, I'm really grateful to you. You accompanied my mother and kept her company before she passed away." Jiang BeiHuai tried to reason with her. "But I'm married now. I have to take care of my family. It's really not convenient for me to keep you here."

"You go back to school first. I'll drive to pick you up when we go out to play."

He Feifei angrily threw her chopsticks on the table and said nothing.

Jiang BeiHuai simply made it clear. "Feifei, I've always regarded you as my sister. You know that."

"I know! I don't have any other intentions." He Feifei was extremely frustrated, with tears in her eyes. "You don't have to keep emphasizing it. I know you only have sibling feelings for me."

He Feifei felt very aggrieved. "Did you not plan to let me stay here from the beginning?"

"Or is it Miss Bai who won't allow you to keep me here?"

Jiang BeiHuai sneered. He wished Bai Wenxi was domineering, but unfortunately, his wife was completely indifferent.

"Don't think too much. She welcomes you very much. It's my own idea."

Knowing that once Jiang BeiHuai had made up his mind, he wouldn't easily change it. No matter how reluctant He Feifei was, she had to listen to him.

As soon as Bai Wenxi came downstairs, she saw the driver coming to carry He Feifei's luggage. "Miss He, weren't you going to stay here for a few days?"

"I suddenly remembered that I haven't written my thesis yet. I have to go back to school earlier." He Feifei was listless and weak.

"I'll ask the driver to take Feifei back. We'll make another appointment next time." Jiang BeiHuai carried He Feifei's computer bag and pushed her out with one hand.

"Miss He." Bai Wenxi chased after her and took out her phone. "Let's exchange contact information. After my art exhibition is over, I'll treat you to dessert."

Jiang BeiHuai frowned. "A Wen, it's not necessary, is it?"

The gentle breeze blew, gently moving Bai Wenxi's earring. She stubbornly held out her phone and stared intently at He Feifei.

He Feifei was at a loss. She didn't expect Bai Wenxi to be so proactive.

She was a bit confused and timidly looked at Jiang BeiHuai.

But she found that the man she secretly admired was intently staring at Bai Wenxi, not even sparing a glance for her.

Holding back a feeling of unwillingness, He Feifei directly added Bai Wenxi as a friend. "Miss Bai, you can chat with me when you're free."

"I will." Bai Wenxi stood with her hands behind her back, elegant and graceful. Her fluttering skirt made her calves look even more slender and firm.

He Feifei finally hung her head in self - abasement. Bai Wenxi was just such a woman. At first sight, she made people feel pure and refined, someone only to be admired from afar.

Standing beside her, even her, who was carefully dressed up, had to take a back seat in front of such natural beauty.

Jiang BeiHuai gentlemanly opened the car door for He Feifei. "Feifei, you have a heavy academic workload. It's best not to spend too much time on social media."

His words seemed like concern, but actually contained a hidden reminder. He Feifei understood his meaning and angrily slammed the car door shut.

"Miss He is really innocent and lovely." Bai Wenxi didn't turn back into the house until the car had turned the corner and disappeared from sight.

"No wonder you've known her for so long and have such a deep relationship." Bai Wenxi forced a smile, speaking in a sarcastic tone. "If I were you, I'd like her too."

Jiang BeiHuai heard something wrong in her words. He cleared his throat but didn't dare to respond.

"Didn't you say she was going to stay at our place for a few days?" Bai Wenxi didn't let her husband off the hook. "Why didn't you keep her?"
