Chapter 14: The Fake Confession

The people on the boat arrived at the Rong family's private island in the evening.

I must be so ignorant.

I thought a private island would be an uninhabited one.

But when I got here—

There were helicopters, a huge mansion, a private golf course...

The island even had full - time staff for maintenance. With such high costs, they only came here to relax a few times a year. It was so extravagant.

I don't know how to play golf. It seems to be a pastime for old men.

But Rong Bo is really good at it. Especially when he took a swing and then stood there upright, he looked so elegant.

It completely changed my stereotypical impression of golf.

So I picked up a golf club and pretended to take a swing.

I did swing the club, but the little ball just stayed there, motionless.

The Rong family: “...”

My family: “...”

Rong Bo said calmly, “Good shot.”

Grandma held back her laughter and scolded her grandson, “Flatterer!”

The group went to the mansion to rest for a while and prepared for the upcoming dinner.

My mom is a great cook. She wanted to help in the kitchen, but Rong Bo's mom wouldn't let her. With the help of the servants, she insisted on cooking by herself.

I had a bad feeling.

Sure enough.

When dinner time came, I looked at the table and saw it was all vegetables.

What was a meat - lover supposed to do?

I could only force myself to eat the sashimi caught from today's sea fishing to fill my stomach.

I glanced at Rong Bo, the meat - lover sitting opposite me who was also only eating sashimi. I suddenly felt sorry for him. No wonder he'd rather go hungry than eat. No meat, no life!

Finally, Rong Bo's dad noticed something was wrong and asked everyone, “These dishes were all cooked by my wife herself. It's really rare for her to cook. I wonder if these dishes suit everyone's taste?”

My dad: “They're delicious, really delicious.”

My mom: “They're healthy and tasty. No wonder Mrs. Rong keeps such a good figure.”

The ice - cold Mrs. Rong finally pursed her lips. In my opinion, that should count as a smile. “I'm glad you like them.”

Then Mrs. Rong looked at Rong Bo. “Don't just eat fish. Don't you like the other dishes?”

Rong Bo: “...”

He didn't say a word.

He just kept eating fish.

It was a silent protest.

A quiet rebellion.

Rong Bo's dad and grandma exchanged a look.

I instantly understood. In the Rong family, everyone was enduring the tyranny of the queen.

It was time for me to start my act. I continued to act spoiled. “They don't suit my taste.”

My mom and dad stared at me, their eyes as big as copper bells, shocked by this rebellious child of theirs.

His mom and dad also had very interesting expressions.

Only Rong Bo remained calm.

I said, “Just kidding, just kidding. Rong Bo and I both love meat. So we can't eat without it. It doesn't mean your dishes are not delicious.”

Rong Bo's mom showed the same patient look as Rong Bo did before. Finally, she told the chef to prepare some more dishes like steaks and bacon.

My mom and dad turned pale with fright. “It's not necessary, Mrs. Rong. She's just being rude. Please don't take it to heart...”

Mrs. Rong was very generous. “It's my fault. I was too focused on my own preferences.”

I silently kowtowed an apology to Mrs. Rong in my heart: Sorry, madam. Don't blame me. The one to blame is your son. He planned all this...

But when the fragrant meat was served on the table, everyone except Mrs. Rong defected and ate until their mouths were greasy.

Mrs. Rong: “...”

I obsequiously cut a piece of steak and put it on Rong Bo's plate, looking triumphant. “Hurry up and eat. It's your favorite rib - eye steak!”

Oh no, Mrs. Rong was gripping her fork so tightly that it was about to break.

On the contrary, Rong Bo deliberately gave me a grateful look as if he had finally stood up after years of oppression from his mother. He even defiantly said, “You understand me best.”

Me: …

I couldn't take it anymore.

I couldn't take it anymore.

The hairs on my arms stood up.

Rong Bo's dad was also chuckling, as if he was amused by my audacity to challenge the queen's authority. The look in his eyes when he looked at Rong Bo was full of relief, as if he was glad that his son had someone to protect him.

After dinner, grandma said she wanted to go to the beach to watch the sunset and specifically asked me to accompany her.

We sat in the rocking chairs under the coconut trees. There was no one around.

Grandma asked, “How did you and Rong Bo meet?”

I answered politely, “We met through a blind date. Cheng Yu is my cousin.”

Grandma: “Oh, that boy from the Cheng family is nice. He's also friends with Rong Bo.”

Me: “Yes.”

Those two colluded to trick me onto this ship.

Grandma: “What do you think of Rong Bo?”

Me: “He's perfect. He's handsome, rich and has an extraordinary bearing. Which girl wouldn't fall for him?”

Grandma said worriedly, “But his temper...”

Me: “He just looks cold but is actually warm - hearted. On our first date, we went on a roller - coaster. I deliberately tested him, and he was so sincere. He accompanied me on three rides without any complaint. I fell for him right then.”

Grandma: “Really?”

Of course it was fake.

Me: “Really.”

Grandma sighed. “I think this boy deliberately gave you the illusion that he's easy to get along with just to make you let your guard down.”

I pretended to be innocent. “Why?”

Grandma: “We've been pushing him too hard. He got annoyed and rebelled. He just picked a girl and said he liked her. He's just acting with us!”

Oh.

Grandma really understands her grandson best.

I pretended to be sad. My shoulders slumped. “I don't care what he thinks. I've really fallen in love with him. I believe Rong Bo isn't just acting. He's not an actor. How could he act so real?”

Grandma quickly comforted me and patted my back. “My dear, I'm just guessing. I'm afraid you'll get hurt. If it's real, that would be the best. Whether Rong Bo is sincere or not, be careful. Don't fall too deeply in love.”

I let out a muffled “um”. “Thank you for your advice, grandma. But I still believe Rong Bo really loves me.”

Grandma stroked my head. “Oh, silly girl.”

There was a sound of footsteps behind us. One second ago, grandma was still stroking my head. The next second, she pushed me away and said sternly, “For every word an elder says, you talk back three times. You're so disrespectful!”

Me: ???

I glanced out of the corner of my eye and saw it was Rong Bo.

I immediately put on the submissive look of a young wife. I stood up and said to grandma, “I won't do it again next time.”

Rong Bo had walked up to grandma. He leaned over and said to the old lady, “You've been talking about seeing your granddaughter - in - law every day. Is this how you treat her?”

Grandma was really a great actress. When she pretended to be domineering, even a spoiled princess couldn't compare. “The granddaughter - in - law I'm talking about is a well - born young lady from the Li family or a powerful princess from the Wang family, not this little girl who looks like she's not even weaned! What can she do to help you if she marries into our family? Let me put it bluntly. I don't agree to this marriage!”

Me: …

This acting.

It was really good.

Suddenly, my hand felt warm. Someone held it.

Me: !!!!

I followed the hand and saw that Rong Bo naturally intertwined his fingers with mine. His palm was so big that my hand was completely held in his. He raised our hands to show grandma and said seriously, “No matter whether you agree or not, I'm going to be with her.”
