Chapter 44

"What's the reason for your resurrection?"

Liu Shiyao walked into the cold palace. The sound of the outer palace door closing was dull. Ye Zhiqiu was held down by the guards and looked up in Liu Shiyao's direction.

"You don't need to look at me like this." Liu Shiyao met Ye Zhiqiu's gaze, waved her feather fan, and said this with a beaming smile.

Although she was smiling, there was not a hint of amusement in her eyes.

Ye Zhiqiu was silent for a moment. He was well aware of the current situation. He simply had no way to leave. After making that decision, he never expected to get out of here.

"What do you want to ask?" Ye Zhiqiu calmed his mood and said this in a composed tone.

He didn't stand on ceremony. At this moment, there was no point in beating around the bush just to buy time.

Hearing Ye Zhiqiu's straightforward words, Liu Shiyao was not surprised. Ye Zhiqiu was a smart man. He wouldn't do anything meaningless.

"It's not a difficult question. I just want to know that you were killed by the assassin yesterday, but now you're standing alive in front of me. The thing is..." Liu Shiyao paused, looked into Ye Zhiqiu's eyes, and lowered her voice.

She leaned over and whispered in his ear, "I just want to know the real reason for your resurrection. If you can answer me honestly, I won't make things difficult for you. I'll let you go."

"How about it? This deal is a sure - fire win." Liu Shiyao stood up, gently waved the feather fan in her hand, and lowered her eyes.

Ye Zhiqiu met her gaze. Regarding her question, he couldn't even explain it to himself. Moreover, even if he tried to make up a story, he couldn't come up with a satisfactory answer for her.

He was never good at lying.

"I don't know."

These four short words made Liu Shiyao feel that she could hardly maintain her smile. She tightened her grip on the feather fan and stared fiercely at Ye Zhiqiu's face with wide - open eyes.

There was no expression on his face, so it was hard to tell whether what he had just said was true or false.

"Do you think I'll believe this explanation of yours?" Liu Shiyao frowned angrily, took a step forward to stand in front of him, and spoke through gritted teeth.

But no matter how many times Liu Shiyao asked, Ye Zhiqiu's answer was always the same.

"I don't know."

It was still these four unchanged words. Liu Shiyao could no longer hold back her inner anger. She threw the feather fan in his direction. The tip of the fan scraped across Ye Zhiqiu's face, leaving a cut from which blood beads were constantly oozing.

Liu Shiyao shouted angrily, her voice getting louder, "Ye Zhiqiu, while I'm still being reasonable, I advise you to tell me the reason honestly. I'll give you one last chance. What on earth is the reason for your resurrection!"

The feather fan fell to the ground and slid a short distance to the side. Her voice rang out clearly.

There was not a trace of fear in Ye Zhiqiu's eyes when facing her threat. He still looked straight into her eyes and his words remained unchanged. "No matter how many times you ask, my answer is always the same. I don't know."

Ye Zhiqiu wasn't lying. He only discovered his resurrection ability after he died one day. Before that, he had no idea that he had the power of immortality.

Since he himself couldn't figure out this ability, how could he possibly explain it clearly to Liu Shiyao?

So no matter how many times she asked, his answer would always be the same.

I don't know.

Hearing Ye Zhiqiu's words, Liu Shiyao was so angry that she laughed. She stared at the wound on his face that her feather fan had made, and the wound was slowly healing.

"Fine. Since you won't say, I'll find out the reason for your resurrection myself." Liu Shiyao slightly raised her hand, exchanged glances with the guards holding Ye Zhiqiu, then waved her hand down and said in a deep voice.

"Attack."
