Chapter 25: Food Poisoning

Yun Jianzhou sensed that Yun Que'er was acting strange and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing... it's nothing," Yun Que'er replied, shaking her head repeatedly as she tried to compose herself. But her little hand clutching Yun Jianzhou's shoulder tightened involuntarily.

Ji Chengxuan scrutinized the knife in Yun Yi's hand for a while. Frowning slightly, he finally asked, "I don't think I've ever seen anyone selling this kind of knife. Is it a new model? Where did you get it?"

Yun Que'er was so frightened that she almost fainted. Damn Ji Chengxuan! Did he have to be so sharp? Would it kill him to ask one less question?

However, no one present noticed anything amiss, especially Yun Jianzhou, who took the knife from Yun Yi and showed it to Ji Chengxuan. "Let me tell you, this knife is really something," he said as he flipped out all the blades one by one. "This one is for trimming nails, this one for cutting threads, this one for slicing things. There are a lot of other functions I don't even know about. Anyway, it's really amazing."

Yun Que'er trembled on Yun Jianzhou's shoulder. Damn Yun Jianzhou! Why did he have to show off at this moment? Couldn't he just change his impulsive nature a bit?

Ji Chengxuan's face showed a look of suspicion. "So, such a precious knife... where did you get it?"

"Of course, it was given by my little sister," Yun Jianzhou replied. Fortunately, he was a bit smarter this time and quickly added, "We didn't steal it. My little sister found it. It's just a knife, not a sweet potato. They're not going to confiscate it, are they?"

Ji Chengxuan slowly shook his head. "No need."

"That's good. Our family is counting on this knife to cut grass," Yun Jianzhou said proudly as he put the knife away and returned it to Yun Yi.

The group said their goodbyes and left the clinic. Ji Chengxuan didn't ask any more questions, and the matter seemed to be over. But Yun Que'er's heart was still in turmoil.

Judging from Ji Chengxuan's expression, although he said it was okay, his face clearly showed something was off.

Would he go and report them again?

Yun Que'er looked up and saw Ji Chengxuan standing at the clinic door, as if looking in their direction. She felt a twinge of guilt and quickly averted her gaze.

It'll be okay. It should be okay, right?

The four siblings returned home and had a simple lunch.

In the afternoon, Yun Yi dragged Yun Jianzhou out again.

Yun Que'er wanted to go and work in the fields, but Yun Fujin was worried that she was still recovering from her injury and forced her to stay in bed and sleep with him.

However, she couldn't sleep well. She kept worrying that Ji Chengxuan would tell the village head about the knife.

They had just managed to get one over on the village head. If they were caught again, the village head would surely make a big deal out of it.

She was on tenterhooks until nightfall. When no unexpected guests came, Yun Que'er finally felt a bit relieved.

Maybe Ji Chengxuan had never seen such a knife before and believed that Yun Que'er had found it.

After suffering both physically and mentally since noon, Yun Que'er finally had a good meal. Soon after dinner, she fell asleep in bed, snoring softly.

Yun Fujin thought she looked cute and couldn't help pinching her cheek. "This little girl really can sleep."

Yun Jianzhou came over and deliberately pinched Yun Que'er's nose. Seeing her gasping for air and opening her little mouth, he burst into laughter.

Yun Fujin slapped his hand away. "What are you doing? You're always picking on kids."

"How can this be called picking on her? I like her," Yun Jianzhou said, spreading out his hands.

"Come on," Yun Fujin pushed Yun Jianzhou aside. "She finally gets to sleep a bit more. Don't bother her."

"Okay, okay, I know," Yun Jianzhou nodded. "You only dote on her. When will you dote on me?"

Yun Fujin got goosebumps from Yun Jianzhou's sappy words. "Stop talking. Aren't you ashamed?"

Yun Jianzhou laughed and turned to go to the kitchen to get some hot water.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Yun Yi from the other room staggering in, clutching her stomach.

"Where have you been?" Yun Jianzhou asked.

Yun Yi looked up at him with difficulty. "Where else could I go at this hour? To the outhouse."

Yun Jianzhou sized Yun Yi up and down and noticed something was wrong. "What's wrong? Why are you holding your stomach? Did you eat something bad?"

"How would I know?" Yun Yi shuffled back to her room and collapsed on the bed.

Yun Jianzhou followed her in. "I just boiled some hot water. Have a drink."

He put the thermos on the table beside Yun Yi. "How can you get a stomachache just from having dinner? Everyone in the family ate the same thing. Why are you the only one having problems?"

Even in such pain, Yun Yi still rolled her eyes at Yun Jianzhou. "It's easy for you to say. You guys are so tough that you won't get sick even if you eat something bad. Don't compare me with you."

"Who's comparing with you?" Yun Jianzhou shrugged and went to the kitchen rummaging through things to find what was left of their dinner.

In fact, there was nothing different from their usual meals. There was some mixed - grain porridge, pickled vegetables made at home, and sweet potato chips.

The sweet potato chips were steamed before eating. It couldn't be that they were too hard and made Yun Yi's stomach hurt, could it?

Yun Jianzhou felt something was off. He rummaged further and finally found that the sweet potato chips at the bottom of the plate were a bit moldy.

Yun Jianzhou suddenly realized that maybe they hadn't dried the sweet potato chips properly, which caused them to mold.

The light in the house wasn't very bright, and they basically cooked in the dark. They just dumped everything into the pot without noticing the problem with the sweet potato chips.

During dinner, Yun Yi said the sweet potato chips at the bottom were moister and easier to chew, so she specifically picked those. She probably didn't notice and ate the moldy ones, which was why her stomach hurt.

Yun Jianzhou walked in with the plate. "You're blaming me? Why didn't you look carefully?"

He turned the sweet potato chips over. "These are moldy. Do you think you won't get a stomachache after eating them? You specifically picked the ones at the bottom. There were only two moldy ones, and you ate them both. You're just asking for trouble."

Yun Yi felt guilty and knew she couldn't blame anyone else. She turned over and faced the wall with the back of her head to Yun Jianzhou. "Come on, I'm already like this. Why are you still scolding me? Can't you just find me some medicine?"

"Where can I get medicine?" Yun Jianzhou pushed the thermos to Yun Yi's side. "Drink some hot water first. Buying medicine costs money. Have you forgotten that all my money was taken away? I don't have any money to buy medicine for you."

Yun Yi gritted her teeth in pain. He was right. In these days, they were most afraid of getting sick.

Buying medicine cost money, and it always seemed like a waste. But not taking medicine was really uncomfortable.

"Forget it," Yun Yi wiped the cold sweat off her forehead. "I'll just drink some water then."
