Chapter 85: The Instigator

Lu Xue's vision was gradually blurring. She could no longer distinguish the voices behind her. A multitude of noisy sounds mingled together, merging with the deafening sound of the rain pouring from the sky.

She raised her eyes and struggled to make out the young man in front of her.

Mu Yuze's bare chest was only draped with a wet white shirt on his back. The shirt was already clinging tightly to his body, and his hair, drenched by the rain, was plastered against his forehead.

Streams of rainwater trickled down from his eyebrows, collarbone, and the bridge of his nose. He seemed as if he were standing in the midst of a cascading waterfall, unable to even open his eyelashes.

In his pupils, Lu Xue saw her own equally disheveled reflection. The two of them had been struggling to hold on until now, and they had reached the limit of their physical strength.

When Aunt Chen and several bodyguards behind them pushed open the window and rushed out with umbrellas, both of them lost their strength at the same time. Lu Xue's legs gave way almost instantly, and she collapsed into Aunt Chen's arms.

Aunt Chen seemed to be shouting something at the top of her lungs in the storm, but the wind was too strong and the rain too heavy for others to even hear her voice clearly.

All they could see was that the umbrella behind her was blown into the shape of a folded trumpet flower. It spun around in the wind for a while, and both people under the umbrella were soaked.

The bodyguards were in a hurry to carry the two of them out.

Mu Yuze, however, only propped himself against the wall with one hand and waved weakly, saying, "Take Lu Xue out first. I'm fine."

Everyone's attention was then focused on Lu Xue. They carried the nearly fainting Lu Xue out in a hurry.

After Lu Xue was carried outside, she still didn't forget to grab the sleeve of a person beside her with her hand. She held on tightly to that person, as if she wanted to say something.

Aunt Chen was anxious because of her tugging. She bent down and asked, "Miss Lu, you need to be sent to the hospital immediately now. You can say whatever you want on the way later."

Lu Xue still wanted to say something, but her lips opened and closed, and no sound came out as if she had lost her voice.

The rest of the people were anxiously waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Lu Xue raised her finger in the direction of the attic outside and weakly motioned for the others to go and save Mu Yuze quickly.

Aunt Chen saw her gesture and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry, Miss Lu. The other two bodyguards have already gone out to save the young master. The young master will be fine."

Only after hearing this did Lu Xue close her eyes and fall asleep wearily.

...

When Lu Xue woke up, she could smell the pungent odor of disinfectant. She opened her eyes and found herself lying in a strange room.

The walls were pure white, and the floor was also pure white.

It took her a while to realize that she was in the hospital.

At this time, someone pushed the door open from the outside. It was Aunt Chen, who came in with some porridge.

When she saw Lu Xue wake up, she finally heaved a sigh of relief.

"Miss Lu, you're finally awake. You had a fever of 40 degrees and have been sleeping for several hours! The doctor just gave you an IV drip. Now, eat some porridge to fill your stomach quickly!"

Lu Xue struggled to prop herself up. The first thing she asked was, "Where's your young master? Where is he now?"

Aunt Chen said, "Don't worry. The young master is in the ward next to yours. He also had a high fever and is still on a drip. But the young master is strong and healthy. He's fine. After eating something just now, he seems to be in much better spirits."

Only then did Lu Xue heave a sigh of relief. Thinking that Mu Yuze had caught a fever while sheltering her from the rain, the sense of guilt in her heart grew even stronger.

She asked Aunt Chen, "Can I go and visit him later, Aunt Chen?"

"Sure! After you finish drinking the porridge later, I'll take you to see the young master!"

At this moment, in the next ward, Mu Yuze was lying weakly in bed. He had an IV drip in one hand while the other was tapping on the keys of his laptop to deal with the emails from the branch companies.

Mu Ziyue peeked into the ward. She sat down somewhat shyly and it took her a long time to say,

"Brother... I've come to visit you..."

Mu Yuze looked up at her, said nothing, and then continued to tap on the keyboard to deal with his work on his own.

Mu Ziyue felt a bit hurt when she found that her brother had ignored her.

"I just got the news that you had a high fever and were hospitalized, so I rushed here. I didn't waste any time on the way. You can't blame me!"

Mu Yuze tapped on the keyboard expressionlessly and ignored Mu Ziyue for a full ten minutes.

After ten minutes, he looked up and met Mu Ziyue's somewhat aggrieved eyes.

"Do you still feel wronged?"

He looked at her expressionlessly. Mu Ziyue pouted and said, "Of course I feel wronged. I came all the way from the east of the city to the west. It took me a lot of effort to get here. You don't even give me a good look. I didn't do anything wrong!"

Mu Yuze was silent for a while. He closed the laptop keyboard and then looked at her indifferently.

"Do you think you did nothing wrong? If it weren't for you closing the window, Lu Xue and I wouldn't have ended up in such a situation."
