Chapter 12: Taking on a Case

The cold wind blew sharply on the street as pedestrians came and went, looking like soulless ghosts.

Yi Pin walked aimlessly on the street, carrying large and small bags. Suddenly, he felt a complete lack of belonging.

He hailed a taxi and stuffed all his stuff into the trunk.

"Kid, where are you headed? Moving house?" the driver asked cheerfully.

"Yeah," Yi Pin replied coldly.

The driver glanced at him in the rear - view mirror and fell silent. The car was dead quiet, with only the rustling sound of the wind in their ears.

"Almost forgot. Kid, where do you wanna go?" the driver smiled.

This question stumped Yi Pin. He couldn't go back home, nor could he return to his old place. He felt so alone, as if he had been abandoned by the world.

"Sir, just drive around the city a few times. Let me think about where to go."

Yi Pin frowned. Looking at the bustling traffic, he felt that in this huge city of Jiangcheng, there seemed to be no place for him.

The driver looked back at Yi Pin. He didn't seem drunk, so why was he talking so vaguely?

But he was a taxi driver after all. Since there was a fare, he had to take the job. Anyway, there were all kinds of people in this world.

After driving around the city a few times, Yi Pin just stared blankly out of the window, lost in thought.

Just then, Butler Li's call came in. The vibration of the phone pulled Yi Pin back from his scattered thoughts.

"Master, just apologize to the old master and come back quickly. Although he doesn't say it, he's been so worried about you that he can't sleep well these days," Butler Li's familiar and steady voice sounded in his ear.

"I'm not going back. Since I've been kicked out, I will definitely find out the ins and outs of this whole thing," Yi Pin said coldly, a self - mocking smile on his lips, though there was a hint of unease in his eyes.

Butler Li went on and on about all the good things the old master had done, but Yi Pin just listened quietly without saying a word.

"Bye!" Yi Pin couldn't stand those clichéd words anymore. They were always the same, like "it's all for your own good."

Butler Li sighed helplessly and finally shut up.

"Also, tell the old master to eat and drink well. I'm a grown - up and I won't starve to death," Yi Pin said coldly.

Then he hung up the phone and smiled at his phone.

He actually knew that the old master loved him dearly, but this matter touched on his principles. If he gave in, he wouldn't be able to forgive himself.

"Sir, take me to Yiyang Law Firm," Yi Pin smiled.

"Okay," the driver glanced at the clean - cut and handsome young man in the rear - view mirror, a bit confused but still did as he was told.

When he arrived at the law firm, Yi Pin looked at the golden characters on the sign and smiled.

After some thought, he realized that the only place he could go was the law firm. He remembered seeing a lounge there during the day. He could stay there for the time being. He didn't have much money on him now, so he couldn't be too picky.

Just as he was about to open the door, he heard a girl's scream for help from the street.

He thought that it was probably a girl who had run into some hooligans so late at night.

So Yi Pin put down his suitcase and walked slowly towards the sound.

The screams got closer. Standing at the corner of the street, Yi Pin peeked inside. Sure enough, there were several burly men surrounding a delicate young girl.

Were hooligans really this bold these days? Yi Pin hid in the distance and listened quietly, waiting to see how things would develop.

"Big brother, I really don't have any money left. Can you give me a few more days?"

The girl had fair skin and was wearing a blue dress. She looked very delicate, with a smear of blood on her lips.

"Give you more days? You're dreaming! We'll just post your nude photos online," the leading hooligan said with a leering smile.

Hearing this, Yi Pin understood what had happened. It seemed that the girl had taken out a loan in an emergency.

Now she was in a hurry and was being chased by these loan sharks.

Seeing the man about to hit the girl, Yi Pin rushed forward, rescued the girl from them, and threatened to call the police. Only then did the men scatter.

Looking at the girl who was crying her eyes out, Yi Pin didn't know what to do. He could only take out a tissue and watch her cry.

After she stopped crying, he began to ask her what had happened.

Sure enough, it was just as he had guessed. The girl's boyfriend had run into some trouble, so she had taken out the loan to help him out.

But she never thought it would end up like this. The interest had skyrocketed in just a few days.

"Why don't you use the law to protect yourself? I can help you," Yi Pin frowned and looked at the girl sincerely.

The girl was obviously stunned. After a few seconds, she said, "Really? Thank you for saving me. I think a just person like you will definitely help me get justice."

Yi Pin smiled. He had finally taken on a case.

Punishing the evil and protecting the good was a good deed after all.

He then sent the girl named Xiao Qi home. After all, it was dangerous for a girl to be out alone at night.

Yi Pin returned to the law firm with excitement and tidied up his luggage again.

Compared to living under the same roof as Shen Yu, he could accept this small but well - equipped room.

Maybe because he had had a busy day, he felt dizzy and fell into a light sleep.

When he woke up, there was a tall and slender figure standing in front of him. Looking up, he saw Gu Yang with a shocked expression.

"Why are you sleeping here?" Gu Yang was a bit flabbergasted.

The room was small and there was only a small bed. With Yi Pin's long limbs, it looked a bit awkward.

"You didn't tell me that the staff accommodation was to live with Shen Yu," Yi Pin said helplessly. He got up, washed up, and neatly made the bed.

All these actions seemed natural. Gu Yang just stared blankly.

Finally, he just silently accepted it. Why did this new guy look so hostile towards Shen Yu, as if Shen Yu was his sworn enemy?

Helplessly, he shrugged, thinking that there must be some misunderstanding between them, which had led to their current irreconcilable situation.

"If you need anything, just tell me," Gu Yang said with a smile, looking at Yi Pin's back. This kid was quite interesting.

Although he looked young, he seemed very experienced.
