Chapter 209: The Unrest Within

Just as the man was about to get close to Leng Ziyue, Leng Ziyue waved the silver needle in his hand. It was almost about to fly out. Fortunately, Su Mingyu called out to him, "Young Master Leng! He's one of us!"

Leng Ziyue fixed his eyes and saw Mu Yi with messy hair, looking like he hadn't had a good rest.

When Mu Yi saw Gu Ruobai, he immediately knelt on one knee. "Your subordinate failed in his duty."

Gu Ruobai glanced at the wounds on Mu Yi and lowered his eyes. "Why is it you?"

Mu Yi thought Gu Ruobai was still angry with him, so he lowered his head even more. "In reply to my master, I heard that you were missing, so I came out to look for you."

"Get up," Gu Ruobai waved his hand. "Your wounds aren't healed yet. Don't run around."

Hearing Gu Ruobai say this, Mu Yi showed a faint smile at the corner of his mouth. It seemed that Gu Ruobai had already forgiven him.

Seeing this, Su Mingyu helped Gu Ruobai up. "Since the person who came to pick us up is here, we won't disturb Young Master Leng's quiet life."

Then, Su Mingyu spread out her hand towards Mu Yi. "The silver."

Mu Yi looked at Su Mingyu suspiciously and then at Gu Ruobai.

Gu Ruobai nodded slightly at him. "Take it all out."

Mu Yi let out an "oh" and hurriedly took out a bag, handing it to Su Mingyu.

Without even looking, Su Mingyu directly threw it on the table in front of Leng Ziyue. Then she took off a jade pendant from her body and put it together with the bag of silver.

"Young Master Leng, we've bothered you for many days. This is just a small token of our gratitude. If you understand what I said, you can come to the Su Mansion or the Prince Ruixian's Mansion in the capital at any time with this jade pendant."

Leng Ziyue just lowered his eyes indifferently and said nothing. One couldn't tell his mood from his dark eyes.

Seeing him like this, Su Mingyu didn't say anything more. She just bowed to him and then turned around with Gu Ruobai and left.

On the way back in the carriage, Mu Yi finally couldn't help asking, "Miss Su, what exactly happened between you and the master?"

Su Mingyu let out a long sigh and roughly told Mu Yi what had happened to her and Gu Ruobai.

Mu Yi immediately became vigilant. "Shall I investigate Shi Minglong?"

Gu Ruobai nodded. "I remember there was a fire in his backyard and his son was also restless. Go and find out who he's cooperating with."

Mu Yi nodded, but then immediately wondered, "Should we also investigate this Leng Ziyue?"

Unexpectedly, Mu Yi was quite sharp. He noticed something wrong with Leng Ziyue just from a few words.

Su Mingyu shook her head. "Let's wait for him to come to me first."

"Miss Su is so sure that he'll come to the capital?" Mu Yi looked very suspicious. Just now he didn't see any sign that Leng Ziyue would go to the capital.

Su Mingyu's tone was very determined. "Because he's unwilling."

Mu Yi didn't quite understand and wanted to ask more, but noticing Gu Ruobai's ugly face, he shut up. "I've already sent someone back to invite the imperial doctor first. When we get to the Prince Ruixian's Mansion later, we'd better let the imperial doctor take a look first."

Gu Ruobai stared at Mu Yi with cold eyes. "After punishing you once, you've become quite considerate."

Mu Yi scratched his nose. "This time, the master disappeared for so long. The emperor has sent people to the mansion several times to inquire. Should we report to the emperor to let him know you're safe?"

"Report it," Gu Ruobai nodded and then raised his eyebrows, looking at Su Mingyu with a smile. "I really owe it to Miss Su this time."

"What do you mean?" Su Mingyu was a bit confused by his sudden teasing.

Gu Ruobai raised his eyebrows and smiled. "Since my leg was disabled, I haven't received such concern from the emperor. But because of your outstanding performance during the autumn hunting, this time I just disappeared for a few days, and the emperor made such a fuss. You said I didn't owe it to you?"

Su Mingyu was stunned for a moment and then stammered, "Your words make me not know whether to say congratulations or pity."

After saying that, without waiting for Gu Ruobai to answer, Su Mingyu reached out and pinched Gu Ruobai's cheek, then pursed her lips and smiled. "Actually, you don't really care about these things at all. Why do you make yourself sound so pitiful?"

Being exposed by Su Mingyu, Gu Ruobai hooked his lips into a smile, and ripples appeared in his dark eyes. "I'm thanking you."

Su Mingyu pouted. "Come on. Stop pretending. Let the imperial doctor take a good look at you later."

Then Su Mingyu turned to Mu Yi. "Mu Yi, when you investigate Shi Minglong, check his relationship with those in the palace, especially the harem."

"What do you mean?" Gu Ruobai looked at her suspiciously. "What did you find?"

"Nothing," Su Mingyu frowned. "Leng Ziyue once said that this kind of poison was one of the ways for the concubines in the palace to fight for favor. I'm thinking that if what he said is true, it can explain two things."

Hearing her say this, Gu Ruobai immediately understood. "First, this Shi Minglong has connections with people in the palace. Second, this Leng Ziyue is not simple. He may have served in the palace before, otherwise he couldn't be so familiar with the means in the palace."

"Right!" Su Mingyu nodded. "So I think if we start from the palace, we may get some unexpected results."

"Okay, your subordinate understands," Mu Yi nodded.

Although the carriage wasn't very fast, Leng Ziyue's place wasn't very far from the capital. It didn't take long for them to arrive at the Prince Ruixian's Mansion.

Just as Su Mingyu helped Gu Ruobai out of the carriage, she saw Zhizhu waiting for her at the mansion gate with red eyes.

She looked back at Mu Yi. Mu Yi scratched his nose. "I thought she was alone in the Su Mansion without anyone to take care of her, so I brought her to the mansion."

Su Mingyu patted Mu Yi's shoulder appreciatively. "Thank you."

As soon as her voice fell, Zhizhu rushed in front of Su Mingyu and sized her up and down. After finding that she wasn't injured, Zhizhu let out a long sigh of relief. "Miss, you scared me to death."

Su Mingyu reached out and rubbed Zhizhu's head. "It's okay. I'm back. Let's go in first and let Gu Ruobai have a rest."

The news that the Prince Ruixian was back spread quickly. Some people who wanted to watch the fun came under the pretext of caring about Gu Ruobai, wanting to see the embarrassed look of this first war god.

But Su Mingyu only used the excuse that "his injuries were quite serious and he needed to recuperate" to refuse all visits. Even the people sent by the Prince Yu were blocked outside the door.

Seeing that the Prince Ruixian's Mansion didn't entertain guests like this, after one or two days, no one was willing to be rejected anymore.

Su Mingyu and Gu Ruobai finally got some peace. On this day, taking advantage of the clear autumn weather, they moved their stools and took a nap in the tea garden.

Maybe he had slept too much these days, Gu Ruobai wasn't sleepy. The days when he could see Su Mingyu just by turning his head made him feel very at ease.

"You're almost looking a hole through me. Can you stop staring at me all the time?"
