Chapter 227 Sometimes, Silence Is Golden

Although there were many wealthy people in the capital, the only family having a wedding in the past few days was the Su Mansion.

The shopkeeper stared at Su Mingyu in surprise. "Are you the eldest miss of the Su Mansion?"

Su Mingyu hadn't expected to be recognized, but she still nodded. "Yes. Thank you for what happened today. I'll take my leave now."

With that, she turned and left, leaving the shopkeeper looking utterly stunned.

The eldest miss of the Su family seemed quite different from the rumors.

When Su Yueyue saw Su Mingyu bring back the lantern she wanted, she couldn't help but feel a bit bored.

She had paid a fortune to get that poor scholar to close his shop for a few days, but Su Mingyu had managed to obtain the lantern so easily.

The disappointment on Su Yueyue's face was so obvious that Su Mingyu saw it from the mansion gate before she even entered.

However, she didn't say much. She simply handed the lantern to a servant and got busy again.

Her daughter was going to marry a prince. This was a big deal anywhere, especially since Su Zhengyi was a minister. The preparations were so grand that it seemed as if they were afraid the whole capital wouldn't know they were marrying off their daughter.

Su Yueyue naturally loved this. She had been framed before, and many people had seen her with the King of Yu, which had given her a bad reputation for a while.

She had always held a grudge. Now that she could successfully marry the King of Yu, it was like giving those gossips a silent but powerful slap in the face.

Su Mingyu wasn't really interested. The wedding preparations were almost finished. In the end, Su Mingyu only had to do some confirmations. So during this rare free time, she went to bed early.

As soon as she lay down, she remembered the day when Gu Ruobai came to see her.

It had been several days since she last saw Gu Ruobai. Just thinking about his gentle actions made her heart flutter. So she simply got out of bed, leaped onto the roof, and used her lightness kung fu to rush to the Prince Ruixian's Mansion as fast as she could.

Last time she had almost been caught when climbing over the wall. This time, she was smarter. She stopped at the gate of the Prince Ruixian's Mansion and walked in obediently.

When she reached the tea garden where Gu Ruobai usually liked to stay, she saw him sitting in the sun, reading a book.

She had been tortured by Su Yueyue, while he had the leisure to read a book here.

Thinking this, Su Mingyu tiptoed over. Just as she was about to cover Gu Ruobai's eyes with her hands, Gu Ruobai, who had been reading all along, suddenly spoke in a low voice. "What? Got some free time?"

Seeing her plan foiled, Su Mingyu walked up to Gu Ruobai dejectedly. "I've been working so hard, while you're so relaxed. Don't you think it's a bit unfair?"

Gu Ruobai put down the book in his hand and looked up at Su Mingyu. "She's not my sister. Why should I exhaust myself to help her?"

Su Mingyu pursed her lips and grumbled silently in her heart. She wasn't really her sister, either.

After all, in the 21st century, she had been just a solitary killing machine.

Seeing that Su Mingyu's complexion was better than before, Gu Ruobai guessed that the wedding preparations were almost over.

"Going through these procedures now will make you more familiar with them when we get married later, won't it?"

Hearing Gu Ruobai's consolation, Su Mingyu rolled her eyes. "Actually, if you're not good at comforting people, it's better if you just keep silent."

Saying this, Su Mingyu plopped down opposite Gu Ruobai, picked up a teapot, and poured herself a cup of tea. "Anyway, I've established the image of a good older sister."

She had been busy running around, and she had personally taken care of every procurement item.

Su Yueyue only saw her running in and out every day, but she didn't realize that Su Mingyu had told everyone she met about Su Yueyue's upcoming wedding.

She believed that it wouldn't be long before the good word about how she, Su Mingyu, had spared no effort to prepare the wedding for Su Yueyue by running all over the capital would spread throughout the city.

This way, it would not only be more convenient for her to frame Su Yueyue in the future but also offset her previous bad reputation.

Although Gu Ruobai didn't fully understand Su Mingyu's little schemes, seeing that she was willing to exhaust herself rather than rely on others, he roughly guessed what was going on.

"Actually, you don't have to care so much about my affairs."

Looking at Su Mingyu's still pale complexion, Gu Ruobai felt a bit heartache. "I'm just a useless prince anyway, so I don't really care about my reputation."

Su Mingyu believed that since Gu Ruobai said so, he really didn't care.

But there was a hurdle in Su Mingyu's heart. She didn't want Gu Ruobai to be laughed at because of her.

Since she could change this situation, why not?

Thinking this, Su Mingyu said it out loud. "I just feel reluctant."

Seeing that Su Mingyu was so stubborn, Gu Ruobai didn't say anything more.

"Mu Yi has some news about Concubine Chen."

So soon?

Su Mingyu leaned forward in front of Gu Ruobai. "What did Mu Yi's message say?"

Gu Ruobai took out a small note that was obviously a carrier pigeon message and handed it to Su Mingyu. "Not much. It just says that Concubine Chen may not be the daughter of the local magistrate as stated in her entry record into the palace."

Su Mingyu took it and looked. There were really only a few words on it.

Su Mingyu pursed her lips. "Why did she fake her identity in the entry record? You know, she's already a concubine now, and that magistrate has been promoted several levels. Why would she give such a good opportunity to an outsider instead of her own family?"

"So I've asked Mu Yi to stay there and continue the investigation." What Su Mingyu could think of, Gu Ruobai could naturally think of, too.

He raised his eyebrows and looked at Su Mingyu. "If we can find out Concubine Chen's real place of birth, this matter might be resolved."

Su Mingyu nodded. "It depends on how well she's hidden."

Just as they were talking, Leng Ziyue walked in from outside. "I heard Su Mingyu was here."

Su Mingyu nodded at Leng Ziyue. "Mr. Leng, do you need something from me?"

"Not really." Leng Ziyue sat down directly beside Gu Ruobai. His natural manner made Su Mingyu raise her eyebrows.

They hadn't seen each other for a few days, and now Leng Ziyue and Gu Ruobai seemed to be on such good terms?

"I heard from Prince Ruixian that you're investigating Concubine Chen's background?"

Leng Ziyue wasn't polite. He directly asked his question. "Why are you investigating her background?"
