Chapter 358: So You Two—You Just Used Me

When Su Mingyu looked at the woman again, her eyes were pitch - black, glinting with a cold light.

Tang Yan also sensed that something was amiss, but he wasn't in a hurry. He quietly came to Su Mingyu's side and asked in a voice only audible to the two of them, "What's going on?"

Su Mingyu fixed her gaze on the woman for a moment, then raised her eyebrows and said, "You'll know soon."

After saying that, Su Mingyu walked up to Gan Jiangnan, gave a cold snort and asked, "You said you saved someone?"

"Actually, it wasn't really saving. He just told such a sad story that I let him off," Gan Jiangnan sighed. "Once our squad was on patrol. I saw a man caught in a hunting trap on the mountain. Since he suddenly appeared near our military camp, I went up to question him."

"He said he was a nearby villager who got accidentally trapped while hunting and hoped I could rescue him. But I wasn't sure if he was really a villager, so I planned to wait for someone else to come and deal with it together."

"Then the man started crying. He told me that he had a family, old and young, and couldn't die there. He also said his wife was pregnant and needed someone to take care of her. Seeing such a big man cry like that, I softened my heart and let him go."

Su Mingyu raised her eyebrows. "Get to the point."

"Later, when I went to the market to buy something, I met him again. By then, he had become the richest man in the whole town. After he invited me to eat, drink and have fun, he told me that he was actually hired to scout out the strength of our camp. That's why he was living so well now."

Gan Jiangnan gritted his teeth angrily as he spoke. "When I heard that, I realized he was a spy. Just as I was about to get angry, he said he only provided some unimportant information, like how many soldiers there were in the army and what they ate, things that could be easily inquired about outside. It wouldn't pose any threat to the army at all."

"So you were tempted?" Su Mingyu looked down at him.

"No," Gan Jiangnan shook his head. "Then he introduced someone to me. That person was the one who tempted me..."

"Who?" Su Mingyu raised her eyebrows. "Let me guess. Was it Zhang Wencai?"

"How do you know?" Gan Jiangnan widened his eyes. "Do you know Zhang Wencai?"

"I don't, but your wife should be quite familiar with him," Su Mingyu said, raising her eyebrows and looking at the woman.

"Hui Ming? Impossible. Hui Ming has never met Zhang Wencai," Gan Jiangnan denied without thinking. "I always met Zhang Wencai alone. No one else knew."

Su Mingyu walked up to Hui Ming and looked down at her haughtily. "Care to explain?"

Hui Ming was trembling all over. She opened her mouth but couldn't say a word for a long time.

Su Mingyu raised her eyebrows. "Fine! Someone, kill the child."

"No no no! I'll talk, I'll talk!" Hui Ming could tell that Su Mingyu was an absolutely heart - less person, so she didn't dare to take the risk.

Looking at Xiaobao in Su Mingyu's arms, the woman cried uncontrollably. "I know Zhang Wencai... I met Lao Gan under his arrangement."

"What?" Gan Jiangnan's face turned as pale as paper. "How do you know Zhang Wencai? Weren't you just a helpless village woman?"

"Actually... actually..." Hui Ming covered her face, her shoulders shaking violently with sobs.

Seeing this, Su Mingyu curled her lips and spoke, "Let me tell it for you."

"That hero - saving - the - beauty scene back then was arranged by Zhang Wencai. The purpose was to get close to Gan Jiangnan, who had already agreed to provide him with some trivial information."

Saying this, Su Mingyu looked at Gan Jiangnan. "Guess why she wanted to get close to you?"

Gan Jiangnan wasn't stupid. After Su Mingyu's words, he immediately understood what was going on.

He stared at Hui Ming in disbelief, his face full of hatred. "You deliberately got close to me just to get military intelligence?"

Hui Ming lowered her head, sobbing so hard that she could hardly catch her breath. "I didn't... I was originally Zhang Wencai's concubine. He gave me to you just to make me whisper in your ear and get you to provide him with more information."

"No wonder..." Gan Jiangnan sighed deeply. "You always told me to think about you and Xiaobao. Every time Zhang Wencai made some excessive requests, you would say so..."

Gan Jiangnan laughed more sadly than crying. "So you've only been using me..."

Hui Ming quickly shook her head. "No, no. At first, I was very resistant to being sent to you. But later I found that you were really good to me. I also wanted to be with you properly. But Zhang Wencai found out and took control of Xiaobao... What could I do!"

Hui Ming's voice was hoarse from crying. "Xiaobao is our lifeblood. I couldn't let Zhang Wencai take him away!"

Gan Jiangnan sneered. "Xiaobao? How dare you mention Xiaobao? You got pregnant less than a month after being with me. Who knows if this child is mine."

"Lao Gan! How could you say such a thing!" Hui Ming was so excited that she even stopped crying. "Although I was Zhang Wencai's concubine, I had nothing to do with him after being given to you. Xiaobao must be your child."

Gan Jiangnan's face looked terrible. In his extreme anger, he simply told everything. "The day Prince Ruixian broke his leg was because I gave Zhang Wencai the intelligence. In fact, those who came for the feigned attack were not the enemy at all. They were arranged by Zhang Wencai. I don't know why Zhang Wencai was so determined to get rid of Prince Ruixian and didn't want him to live."

Gan Jiangnan spat as he spoke. "I actually betrayed my comrades for such a woman!"

Hui Ming still kept crying. "Lao Gan, believe me! Xiaobao is really yours!"

Gan Jiangnan snorted coldly. "You actually set me up like this. To protect your safety, I even threatened Lin Feng with the fact that I saved his life. And you treat me like this!"

As Gan Jiangnan spoke, his eyes turned red and tears fell.

He never thought that the family he had been protecting whole - heartedly was actually a trap set up by others from the very beginning.

Su Mingyu watched their argument coldly from the side and had no intention of stepping in.

"I really didn't," Hui Ming sniffled. "I know how good you've been to me. Zhang Wencai wanted me to get more information from you. Watching you suffer between being a loyal subject and a family man every day, I was also very sad. So I never told Zhang Wencai any information about your military marches. I always said I didn't know to cover for you."

Saying this, Hui Ming looked at Gan Jiangnan and then asked through her tears, "You should know very well how I've treated you over the years. How could you say such a thing?"
