Drip! Drip!
Water droplets trickled down the damp stone wall onto the ground, creating an eerie atmosphere in the silent space.
Zhaozhao frowned and slowly opened her eyes.
The place on the back of her neck where Song Yao had stabbed still ached faintly. She couldn't help but let out a soft hiss.
Zhaozhao rubbed the back of her neck. Lying on the ground, she took a while to sit up slowly. Song Yao was lying quietly beside her, still unconscious.
"Cousin, cousin... Wake up quickly!" Zhaozhao grabbed Song Yao's shoulders and shook her, trying to wake her up.
But unfortunately, Song Yao showed no reaction.
Thinking of Song Yao's abnormal behavior before losing consciousness, Zhaozhao guessed that Song Yao might have been controlled. She leaned over and pried open Song Yao's eyelids. Seeing the lack of luster in her eyes, Zhaozhao felt a bit relieved.
After all, she would have to use magic to check the spell on Song Yao. If she wasn't sure that Song Yao was really unconscious, what if Song Yao woke up suddenly in the middle of her spellcasting?
She might have to let her master down then...
After confirming Song Yao's condition, Zhaozhao started to cast a spell. She clasped her hands together and then crossed and spread them. A stream of emerald - green spiritual energy slowly flowed from her fingertips into Song Yao's body.
As she moved, Zhaozhao's body also began to change. The small leaf on top of her head emerged again, swaying with her movements.
On the surrounding walls, there were many yellowed plants that had grown due to years of lack of sunlight. But at this moment, they seemed to be watered by something and began to grow wildly.
The vines began to stretch, the yellowed leaves instantly turned bright green, and even a dying flower in the corner miraculously began to regain its vitality.
Zhaozhao tried to input a lot of spiritual energy into Song Yao, but Song Yao still showed no reaction. Only then did she feel something was wrong.
It shouldn't be like this. Logically speaking, after receiving so much of her spiritual energy, no matter how serious the situation was, Song Yao should have shown some reaction. Why was it like this? Zhaozhao puckered her little face and thought.
Helpless, she had to put Song Yao aside first and observe the surrounding environment.
It was very dark all around, but there was an out - of - place lamp here, adding a touch of light.
Zhaozhao looked at the lamp warily. Tentatively, she grew a vine from her fingertips and approached it. After waiting for a while and finding it had no reaction, she used the vine to roll up the lamp and took it into her hand.
Holding the lamp, she looked up along the wall. There was a sealed small opening above.
"Strange. Why does this opening look so familiar?"
Suddenly, an idea flashed through Zhaozhao's mind. This was exactly the small opening on that tower!
She and her cousin had been thrown into the tower!
Zhaozhao was on the verge of tears. Although she really wanted to come into the tower to take a look, not in this way...
She tried to strike towards the top of the tower. Well, nothing happened. It seemed that there was a restriction on this tower.
Zhaozhao held the lamp and walked forward a few steps. Suddenly, she seemed to be tripped by something and almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, she managed to steady herself in time.
"What's this?" The light from the lamp wasn't very clear. Zhaozhao bent down and picked up what had tripped her. She brought it close to the lamp to see it more clearly.
However, before she could take a closer look, Song Yao behind her woke up first.
"Zhaozhao? Are you here?" Song Yao rubbed her swollen forehead and shouted nervously.
Hearing Song Yao's voice, Zhaozhao was both surprised and happy. She quickly grabbed the thing and the lamp and ran towards Song Yao. "I'm here, cousin. I'm here!"
The moment Song Yao saw Zhaozhao, she finally let out a sigh of relief. Fortunately, this little fool was still here.
However, before she could completely relax, she was suddenly startled by the thing in Zhaozhao's hand and gasped.
"You you you! What's that in your hand?! Throw it away, quickly throw it away!" Song Yao looked at Zhaozhao, who had run over and squatted in front of her, in horror and slapped the thing out of Zhaozhao's hand.
The thing rolled a few times and stopped a few steps away from them. Its empty eye sockets stared straight at them. It was clearly a skull.
Song Yao took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She took out a stack of talisman papers, chanted a spell, and the talisman papers flew out and stuck to the surrounding walls. The area instantly brightened up.
With the bright light, Zhaozhao finally saw clearly that the thing that had been thrown away should be the skeleton of a human head.
Around them, the place was filled with bones and remains, the number of which was appalling.
The remaining bones and remains seemed to be those of children. And this tower was not as simple as the village head had said. It was completely an alternative burial pit.
Song Yao was so shocked that she couldn't speak. She had thought there was something strange in this village, but she hadn't expected it to be so crazy...
This made her think of a very distant and ancient thing - the baby abandonment tower.
In the poor days of the old society, people would throw premature or congenitally - deficient children into the tower and let them fend for themselves. Some even set fire to the tower.
But there were so many remains here. Were they really all children who couldn't be raised?
Looking at these skulls, Song Yao felt a chill in her heart. She grabbed Zhaozhao and wanted to take her out, but no matter how many methods she tried, the tower remained intact.
What was even more worrying was that they hadn't brought their phones with them when they came out, and they couldn't send out a signal. They couldn't even call for help.
Did the monster want to trap them inside until they died?
Zhaozhao noticed Song Yao's anxiety. She pulled on Song Yao's sleeve and said, "Cousin, don't be anxious. Let's think of a way slowly. Look, although we're trapped here now, there's no danger here for the moment."
Song Yao was reminded by Zhaozhao and then realized that, yes, there had been no danger here so far.
Calm down, Song Yao. Only by staying calm could she think of a way.
"You're right. Let's look around first."
Zhaozhao nodded and started to look around with Song Yao.
When they passed by the skull that Song Yao had slapped away, Zhaozhao showed a look of sadness.
Song Yao had just told her how these bones might have come from, and she felt depressed.
Now seeing this small skull that they had thrown, she bowed with her hands clasped in front of her and murmured, "Sorry. Don't blame us." Then she picked up the skull and placed it neatly.
"Song Zhaozhao, what are you doing?" Song Yao turned around and saw Zhaozhao with her back to her. She shouted impatiently.
Zhaozhao was startled by Song Yao's loud voice and quickly ran over.
"Coming, coming."
However, the moment Zhaozhao turned around, the skull that had just been placed neatly suddenly started to turn. Its empty eye sockets stared in Zhaozhao's direction.
The skulls around seemed to come to life and slowly crawled towards the two sisters.
