Chapter 38 Guilt

"What about you?"

This was the first time Lin Wan had initiated the conversation.

"Huh? Me? What about me?" The person on the other end was clearly taken aback. Then, he suddenly reacted and quickly sent a picture.

It was a picture of a boxed lunch. Two meat dishes and one vegetable dish. The meal actually seemed quite decent.

"This is my lunch. I'm having it right now," the other person said.

Lin Wan was stunned. She checked the time. "It's almost one o'clock here. You're just having lunch now, and it's a boxed lunch?"

"Ah, yes. I've got a lot of work today. We're shooting on location, so we're all having boxed lunches," came the quick reply.

"Shooting... on location?" Lin Wan raised an eyebrow. She thought her previous assumption about Lu Zhihang's job might be wrong.

On Lu Zhihang's side, he broke out in a cold sweat. He'd accidentally blurted out that he was shooting on location. Damn it! He was always on the verge of exposing his real situation.

"Are you a photographer?" Lin Wan quickly sent another message. She still managed to miss the correct answer perfectly. Sometimes, Lu Zhihang didn't know whether to say she was being considerate or what.

For this question, Lu Zhihang gave a rather vague answer. Making TV dramas should, maybe, count as being involved in photography, right?

Probably... it was related somehow?

"Sigh, I'm in a bit of a bad mood today. I hope it hasn't affected you," Lin Wan sighed. She sat on the chair, spun around with her phone in hand, then leaned back against the chair and sighed again.

"It has. I'm in a bad mood too," Lu Zhihang replied. His words seemed quite serious.

Lin Wan was a bit helpless. "You're lying. It can't be that easy to be affected."

"Because it's you."

Lin Wan was stunned. She held the phone in front of her eyes and stared blankly at this sentence. It seemed that something was slowly germinating in her heart.

"So what exactly happened to you? Can you tell me?"

Looking at this message, Lin Wan fell into silence and indecision. Several times, she hovered her finger over the keyboard, but she just couldn't bring herself to say the reason.

"Lin Wan."

Suddenly, a voice sounded beside her. Lin Wan was startled. Her phone slipped out of her hand and hit her face. It hurt so much that she quickly covered her nose.

"Are you okay?!" Yang Ziyan was shocked by her reaction. He quickly stepped forward and pulled her wrist away to check her slightly red nose.

Lin Wan felt a bit embarrassed. Her nose was sore and tears welled up in her eyes. She quickly pulled her hand out of Yang Ziyan's and rubbed her nose. "I'm okay."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't expect you'd be scared," Yang Ziyan said awkwardly, rubbing his nose as he apologized.

Lin Wan looked at him. She actually didn't mind what Yang Ziyan had said, because she was the one who had started this whole thing.

"It's okay. I was just lost in thought. You don't need to apologize."

"And this morning... I shouldn't have said those things and made you unhappy. I'm sorry," Yang Ziyan lowered his head. It was obvious that he was very sincere in his apology, which made Lin Wan feel a bit embarrassed.

"... It's okay. I didn't take it to heart."

"How about I treat you to dinner tonight as an apology?" Yang Ziyan said.

Lin Wan was taken aback and quickly replied, "No, thanks. I have an exam tomorrow. I need to go back and review. I haven't had my holiday yet."

"Okay, I see. Then next time," Yang Ziyan left awkwardly.

Lin Wan watched his back and sighed.

She opened her phone and saw a series of garbled characters in her chat window. They had already been sent. She quickly tried to recall the message, but it was too late. And Lu Zhihang's six dots had already appeared on the screen.

"Sorry, my phone dropped just now. It might have been an accident," Lin Wan quickly apologized.

"It's okay. I thought you were venting your anger on me," Lu Zhihang quickly replied.

"How could that be? It wasn't you who made me unhappy. How could I vent my anger on you?" Lin Wan was a bit amused.

"It's okay. You can vent your anger on me. I won't be angry no matter what you say to me," Lu Zhihang replied.

Lin Wan was helpless. Her eyes swept over the previous message and then looked at Lu Zhihang's current one. She couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart. She felt a bit melancholy. "Why are you so nice to me?"

"Why do I need a reason to be nice to you? I just want to," Lu Zhihang said.

"But if you really want a reason, it might be because you're my wife," he quickly sent another message.

Lin Wan was stunned. Somehow, she thought of the laurel branches that they paired up with in the game. Her face blushed a bit.

"Xiaowan, are you chatting with your boyfriend?" Xiao Man walked by and asked with a smile.

Lin Wan was startled. She quickly put down her phone and stood up. "No, no. I don't have a boyfriend."

"It's okay. I'm not interrogating you. Sit down. Don't be so nervous," Xiao Man said with a smile, waving her hand. Then she walked into the team leader's office with the documents in her hand.

Lin Wan sat back in her seat and let out a soft breath. She opened her phone. The words "wife" on it seemed especially eye - catching.

"That was just in the game. Don't talk nonsense," Lin Wan replied.

Lu Zhihang smiled. He didn't refute or continue. The director was already calling him to start the next scene.

Lin Wan waited for a long time but didn't get a reply. She let out a soft sigh.

At the company, Lin Wan spent the whole working time organizing various documents, filing and archiving. It was extremely boring.

When it was time to get off work, it was already getting dark outside. Lin Wan rubbed her aching wrist, sighed, and stood up.

"Lin Wan, are you going back?" Yang Ziyan's voice came from behind.

"Yeah..." Lin Wan turned to look at him.

"Let me give you a ride. I'm going in that direction anyway, and I have a car," Yang Ziyan said a bit awkwardly. Lin Wan just wanted to sigh when she saw his expression.

"No, thanks," Lin Wan refused.

Yang Ziyan stopped in his tracks. For a moment, an awkward atmosphere spread as he didn't know whether to leave or stay.

Lin Wan moved, but just as she took a step, she stopped. She turned around and looked at Yang Ziyan. "Didn't you say you'd take me back to school? I actually want to talk to you. Let's go."

Yang Ziyan's eyes lit up. He quickly walked a few steps to catch up, and a smile appeared on his face.

After getting into the passenger seat, Lin Wan waited until Yang Ziyan drove the car out of the parking lot before slowly saying, "Do you feel a lot of guilt?"

"Ah? What?" Yang Ziyan was a bit dazed.

"I'm asking if you feel guilty because of what you said this morning," Lin Wan said.

"... " Yang Ziyan opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but in the end, he couldn't say a word.

"Actually, you don't need to feel this way. I don't mind at all," Lin Wan said. "What you said was the truth. I have a connection with Songlin Entertainment. Their boss is my uncle. All these are true. It's actually me who can't accept the reality. I'm the one who should feel guilty."

"No!" Yang Ziyan interrupted Lin Wan. He frowned slightly.
