Chapter 13 The Sudden Truth

Chen Qinghong and Yang Mu got married and lived a loving life. Her husband went to work while Yang Mu took care of the household. Chen Qinghong hated to let her suffer, and everyone knew that Yang Mu was the apple of his eye.

A loving couple always has the fruit of their love. They were no exception - Yang Mu was pregnant. Chen Qinghong told his elder brother, Chen Qingyi, the news.

When he married Yang Mu, he had left the Chen family because this matter had made him very unhappy with his family. Finally, Chen Qingyi smoothed things over. He found a wife to suppress the yin energy.

But it was already too late. Everything that had happened in the tomb had shown the problem. The balance of yin and yang in the family was disrupted, and even his marriage couldn't save the situation.

He had already been unfortunate and couldn't let his younger brother's happiness be ruined. He stopped his furious father and pleaded with him to let his younger brother live a peaceful life.

Chen Qingyi got married before Chen Qinghong. He just casually found a girl and tied the knot. He thought everything would be fine, but in the second year after marriage, his wife died of excessive fright.

No one knew what she had seen. Some rumors said that a ghost had come to take her soul. The Chen family had done too many immoral things and offended many spirits. Since the second son had escaped, they could only target the eldest.

Chen Qingyi didn't believe in such things. He got married four times successively, but without exception, his wives would die in the second year. The causes of their deaths were strange, and their bodies never rotted. They just lost their vital signs.

Later, the Chen family found a powerful Taoist priest, hoping to suppress the yin energy. The priest looked at the Chen family's mansion, shook his head and sighed, "It's too late. The yin energy can't be suppressed."

When the old Taoist priest left, he gave the Chen family a suggestion: get rid of the source of the yin energy, which was Yang Mu. But Chen Qinghong cherished Yang Mu like a treasure and couldn't bear to let her suffer any grievance. Now they had a happy family of three.

Chen Qingyi didn't dare to tell his younger brother about this. Their father had already started to figure out how to get rid of Yang Mu without being noticed. At first, Chen Qingyi didn't have that thought.

But after all he had experienced, Chen Qingyi wavered. He couldn't bear the torture of this bad luck. His wives always died innocently, while his younger brother was enjoying a happy life.

"Yi'er, you are the pillar of the family. The family needs you," his father looked at Chen Qingyi firmly and said, "Your younger brother is hopeless."

Chen Qingyi thought to himself. Only if Yang Mu died could he be able to get close to his family like a normal person. Was it okay to exchange his younger brother's happiness for his own?

Chen Qinghong's son was named Chen Mu, with the same pronunciation as Yang Mu's name. He was the fruit of their happy love.

Just when the brothers were about to fight, something happened to Chen Qinghong. This tall and strong man suddenly fell seriously ill.

Seeing his younger brother on the verge of death, Chen Qingyi felt heart - broken. His favorite younger brother needed help, but he was in a difficult situation himself.

The Chen family was about to perish!

This was what other people in the same field were looking forward to, for there would be one less competitor. The Chen family was in a precarious situation and could be easily destroyed. The eldest son had died in the tomb years ago, the second son had suffered all his life, and the third son had left the family long ago.

Strangely enough, in the end, Chen Qingyi was okay, and only Chen Mu was left in the third son's family.

Uncle Shi was talking when he suddenly stopped and looked at me.

I was puzzled and looked back at him.

"You look so alike! Really alike," the old man said. But I knew nothing and just looked at him in confusion.

"Chen Qinghong died of an illness. In fact, it was because of the excessive yin energy in his body. Your mother didn't know this at first. Your second uncle was very angry. His younger brother had died like this, but the culprit was unaware. He confronted your mother, and then your mother followed your father." the old man said.

I just felt my mind was in a mess, and something was slowly becoming clear.

"Don't think it's over. At that time, everyone thought the Chen family was saved. But things backfired. Instead of getting better, the Chen family declined even more," the old man said.

"What on earth is going on? Didn't they say that everything would be okay after his mother died?" Song Yiran pointed at me with a confused look on his face.

The old man shook his head. "No, no. Everyone thought so, but later they found that even though Yang Mu was dead, her flesh and blood still remained in the world. That's why many people in the Chen family kept their distance from Chen Mu. They didn't want to get into trouble. Only his second uncle, out of guilt towards Yang Mu and love for his younger brother, took good care of him."

Listening to the emerging truth, I seemed to understand why the Chen family had been so desolate and deserted for so many years and why my second uncle had treated me like his own son.

The others were shocked. Yan Yan patted my back to show that I shouldn't be sad.

Uncle Shi slowly walked down. "Come with me." Shi Yuhan supported her grandfather and walked slowly. We followed behind, ready to act at any time.

Behind Uncle Shi's house was a secret chamber. It seemed that it hadn't been opened for many years. The cold wind blew, and the iron - chained door creaked. The gray sky gave people an unrealistic feeling.

Uncle Shi looked at our group and slowly opened the door. The smell coming from inside carried a faint fragrance of flowers, as if it was a paradise.

For some reason, I just felt very uncomfortable all over. It seemed that there was a wild beast imprisoned inside, about to rush out and tear me apart.

We followed Uncle Shi and stepped over the threshold.

Suddenly, a woman rushed towards me, grabbed my neck, and there was a stench. The woman's face was covered by long hair. Her skin was pale, and she was wearing a plain dress.

A gust of wind blew away her thick hair. She had a long tongue hanging out and bulging white pupils. Those white pupils seemed to be looking at me, full of painful complaints.

I tried to push away her hands on my neck, but it only made her grip tighter. I felt like I was about to suffocate, and the world began to blur.

Suddenly, I fell into a warm embrace. The faint smell of laundry detergent filled my nose.

"Are you okay?" Yan Yan held me and said softly, "You became nervous as soon as you entered the door, and your breathing was not right."

I looked around, but there was nothing strange. Yan Yan also looked around, but everything here was too normal, so normal that it was scary.

Yan Yan stared at me from head to toe and finally fixed his eyes on my face. I felt very uncomfortable being stared at. I scratched my face and asked him, "Is there something on my face?"

"Why don't you come in?" Shi Yuhan came out, and her eyes shifted between me and Yan Yan.

Only then did I realize that Yan Yan had stayed with me here because he noticed something was wrong with me. "We'll come right away. Please lead the way." I replied.

Shi Yuhan nodded and walked in front.
