Chapter 17: The Soul Dead Servant

The thing stirred, as if it had detected their presence. It shuffled backward, fully exposing itself to everyone. Only then did they realize that this was no human being; it was clearly a dead man!

The Fatty let out a terrified scream. Xu Yang and Song Yiran took out the items they had prepared. Yan Yan stood at the front and drew a suppressing talisman, attempting to subdue this dead man with the talisman.

This dead man was dressed like a sword-bearing guard. However, the difference was that his clothes were a bit tattered and bloodstained, and his limbs were contorted in a way no human could achieve.

"I remember! This thing is called a Soul Dead Servant!"

Xu Yang shouted, "Hurry and leave! All of you! It will summon more dead servants!"

As he spoke, Xu Yang pulled Song Yiran along. Yan Yan was still drawing the talisman at the front, and the dead servant was approaching step by step. I was a child from a tomb - raiding family, so I had some skills. I rushed to Yan Yan's side to protect him while he finished drawing the talisman.

The Soul Dead Servant was approaching steadily. Yan Yan's talisman was just a few strokes away from being completed. The dead servant was getting closer and closer to the talisman, and everyone held their breath.

Suddenly, the Soul Dead Servant rushed through the talisman Yan Yan had drawn and charged towards them. The Fatty scurried around everywhere and finally hid in the corridor. Xu Yang and Song Yiran were already ready to fight the dead servant.

Yan Yan stood at the front, blocking the dead servant. He took out a retractable sword from his bag and flicked it. The whole sword appeared in front of everyone. It was a sealed sword.

Yan Yan bit his finger, and a drop of blood dripped onto the sword. The blood quickly traced a line from the tip to the hilt of the sword and then merged with the sword.

"Everyone, step back!"

Yan Yan stabbed the dead servant with the sword, but he didn't kill it. The dead servant paused for a moment, and then a lot of small bugs crawled out of the wound made by the sword.

"Damn it, what the hell are these things?" The Fatty exclaimed in his Northeast dialect in fright.

Yan Yan stepped back. Looking at this scene, Song Yiran frowned and said, "These are corpse - eating insects. They will summon their companions, and if they bite someone, it will be dangerous."

The dead servant stood there stupidly, allowing the insects in his body to crawl out. Soon, a sound of things rubbing against the ground echoed in the corridor.

The few of us huddled together back to back, watching our surroundings warily. The sound of rubbing against the ground was getting closer and closer until all the summoned dead servants entered the tomb.

The few of us clung to each other tightly. This was a big trouble. How could we resolve this situation? If the dead servants weren't completely cleared, we couldn't leave. The dead servants around us were approaching, and we were like lambs waiting to be slaughtered by the dead servants.

Suddenly, a slender woman in black appeared in their sight. She walked up to the coffin and split it open with a knife. All the dead servants stopped.

They turned their heads mechanically and looked in that direction. As if attracted by something, they staggered towards there. The woman stepped back and walked towards us.

The Fatty rushed over, grabbed her and said, "I knew that Goddess Shi would never leave us behind. You're so amazing. They fought for so long but it was useless. Thanks to you, you managed to subdue the enemy with one move."

Great kindness needs no words of thanks. Everyone was in the same team. They were all very happy to see Shi Yuhan's arrival. Yan Yan put away his sword. Song Yiran looked at Shi Yuhan and asked, "Didn't you come earlier than us and said we'd meet in the main tomb?"

Shi Yuhan shook her head and said, "I did come early. I explored the corridor for a long time and then encountered the Soul Dead Servant. My grandfather taught me that only the coffin and its companions can attract it."

"I fought with the dead servant for a long time. Suddenly, they all seemed to be summoned and went in one direction. I just followed them. I didn't expect to find you here."

Everyone trusted Elder Shi very much. Yan Yan asked, "Did you notice anything strange when you came here?"

Shi Yuhan replied, "I didn't notice anything at first, but this tomb is very strange."

"What do you mean?" I asked. Everyone was looking at her curiously.

Shi Yuhan said calmly, "The location of this small tomb, and as the first tomb, it's very close to the entrance. The dead servant was guarding in front of the coffin."

The dead servants that had been attracted back were now kneeling in front of the coffin, with their heads buried between their knees. They looked extremely pious towards the coffin. But the coffin that had just been opened was completely empty.

I looked around and thought about the only blood - colored butterfly we had encountered when we first came in. I said, "Is it possible that this tomb is a decoy? When we first came in, the Fatty stepped on a skull. Maybe this tomb has been tampered with."

Song Yiran stroked his chin and nodded in agreement. "Yes, logically speaking, for such a ferocious tomb to claim lives right from the start is a bit unreasonable. Moreover, the coffin in this front tomb is empty, so the skull and the blood - colored butterfly we saw when we first came in can't be explained."

This was a ferocious tomb guarded by dead servants. It was already quite an achievement for us to get into the corridor. It was so unreasonable that we only encountered the dead servants after we entered the tomb.

Yan Yan nodded. "The dead servants should be guarding here, but there was only one here at first, and the others were summoned later. That's unreasonable."

The only reasonable explanation now was that someone had come to this tomb earlier, triggered the mechanism, and changed the structure here. As for the things in the coffin, it was unknown. Who would carry the things inside and be chased by the dead servants? That would be crazy.

Xu Yang, who had been silent all this time, spoke up. "Let's not discuss these things for now. Let's leave quickly. This tomb is very evil. We don't know what will happen next. It's not a good idea to stay here any longer."

After saying that, Xu Yang lit a candle and walked in front. We followed behind and continued to explore deeper. At this time, the dead servants suddenly stirred and looked in our direction.

Yan Yan signaled everyone not to be afraid. They were just confirming that we wouldn't take the things in the coffin. After looking for a while, the dead servants returned to their original state.

Shi Yuhan glanced at Yan Yan and whispered, "My grandfather asked me to give you a message."

Yan Yan looked at her, signaling her to continue. Shi Yuhan said, "My grandfather told me to tell you to be careful of those with ulterior motives."

Oh, so Elder Shi meant that there was a mole among us. It was really like an old man to worry about unnecessary things. I glanced at Yan Yan, and he nodded thoughtfully.

The Fatty quickly grabbed Shi Yuhan to show his loyalty. When Xu Yang in front heard this, his brows furrowed. He glanced at Shi Yuhan with a complex expression. Song Yiran shrugged indifferently.

Yan Yan's gaze swept across everyone. Everyone here had just fought with the dead servants. We had all experienced life - and - death situations together. Although the Fatty couldn't do much, he didn't run away and still fought with everyone.

Although Shi Yuhan had spoken softly, in this narrow space, everyone could hear clearly. Coupled with the Fatty's shouting, it was even clearer. The task wasn't completed yet, but there was already suspicion among the group.
