"Take it. If you still recognize me as your grandpa, then take it." Grandpa Lu stuffed it into her hand again.
Wen Sining had no choice but to take it, but she would find a way to return it to Grandpa later.
Concerned that Wen Sining's foot was injured, Grandpa Lu asked Uncle Bai to carry Wen Sining's suitcase downstairs.
As soon as they got downstairs, Qiao Xi called. "I'm outside."
"Got it." After hanging up the phone, Wen Sining said to Grandpa, "Grandpa, I should go now."
"Okay, okay, okay." Grandpa Lu was reluctant to part with Wen Sining, but there was nothing he could do. He could only blame his good - for - nothing grandson.
After Wen Sining went out, she got into Qiao Xi's car and headed home.
"Shall I throw a little celebration party for you tonight to celebrate your return to single life?" Qiao Xi asked Wen Sining as she was waiting for the traffic lights.
Wen Sining shook her head and looked out of the window.
Only then did Qiao Xi notice that Wen Sining's face looked a bit pale. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No." Wen Sining couldn't quite explain it. She just felt an empty feeling in her heart.
"It's okay. Life goes on." Qiao Xi comforted her.
Wen Sining nodded.
Soon they arrived home. Wen Sining just lay there, not wanting to move at all. She'd sort out her luggage later when she had time.
When Lu Luochen woke up, he felt a splitting headache, but the pain also made him more sober. He wondered how Wen Sining was doing now. He instinctively picked up his phone, wanting to call her. Then he remembered that they had already signed the divorce agreement. He had no reason to care about her anymore.
He put down the phone again and ruffled his hair in frustration. Then he got up and went to the bathroom. Looking at himself in the mirror, he saw that his chin was covered with stubble. He looked haggard.
After that, Wen Sining and Lu Luochen went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to go through the divorce procedures. It started to drizzle when they got there.
Lu Luochen got out of the car. Looking at the weather, he pulled at his lips self - deprecatingly.
He still remembered that it was the same kind of weather on the day they got their marriage certificates. It was quite ironic. Even the weather was so "cooperative".
Wen Sining's foot was already able to bear her weight. She got out of the car, looked at Lu Luochen, and said softly, "Let's go in." Then she walked forward.
Lu Luochen opened an umbrella and followed behind her. Entering the Civil Affairs Bureau for the second time, his mood was completely different from the first time.
After they went in, they answered the staff's questions one by one. Then the staff handed them a red booklet with the words "Divorce Certificate" on it.
When they came out, they walked in silence. It took them less than ten minutes from going in to coming out. It was a short time, but Lu Luochen felt that it was extremely long. Wen Sining stole a glance at him and found that he had a straight face. She guessed that her own face didn't look any better. She sighed silently in her heart.
They walked down the steps. Wen Sining walked towards her car. Lu Luochen's cold but familiar voice came from behind her, "How's your foot? Can you drive?"
Hearing this, Wen Sining bit her lower lip. She didn't really want to answer Lu Luochen's question at first. After all, they were no longer related. But then she thought that she should be more generous. Since he had asked, it would seem petty if she didn't answer.
"I drove here by myself, so I can drive back, too." Wen Sining turned to say to him, then turned around and walked forward again.
Maybe it was just Wen Sining's illusion, but she always felt that Lu Luochen looked thinner than before, and there were bloodshot eyes under his eyes.
Lu Luochen gave a soft "um" and left. One walked to the right and the other to the left.
Wen Sining couldn't help but think of an idiom, "going their separate ways". It was so fitting for this situation. She silently sighed at the profoundness of Chinese culture.
Although it was almost summer, the wind was still a bit cold. Wen Sining tightened her clothes, opened the car door, and got in. Not sure if it was because her body or her heart was cold, she subconsciously turned on the heater.
After a while, she felt as if she had come back to life.
Just as Wen Sining was about to start the car, she saw a dog through the rear - view mirror. She honked the horn, but the dog didn't move. So she had to get out of the car to check.
When the dog saw her, it shrank back. Wen Sining could tell that it was afraid of her. She squatted down and said softly, "Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you." As she said that, she tried to reach out and touch its head.
The little Teddy seemed to sense Wen Sining's kindness. It took a step forward. It was dirty all over, and there was blood on its back fur. Wen Sining noticed that it was injured and tried to pick it up. The little Teddy didn't resist.
Wen Sining directly carried it into the car and drove to a nearby pet hospital.
After going in, she found a doctor. "Is it a stray dog?"
Wen Sining nodded.
"It's okay. Leave it here. I'll take care of it." The doctor looked at the little Teddy and then looked up at Wen Sining.
"Thank you." Wen Sining went out and sat outside waiting for the little Teddy.
After about half an hour, the doctor finally came out.
"We've sutured its wound. It will recover slowly and there won't be any major problems."
Wen Sining nodded. The little Teddy was also wheeled out. "By the way, you can take it to a pet rescue station." The doctor reminded her.
"Thank you, but I'm going to adopt it." Wen Sining said.
She was really a compassionate person. The moment she saw the little Teddy, she had this thought. Since she had helped it, she would help it to the end.
"That's fine. Come back for a check - up in seven days." The doctor said.
Wen Sining nodded.
The nurse also cleaned up the little Teddy. When Wen Sining saw it, she found that it was a white little Teddy. She followed the nurse to get the medicine, then carried it and put it in the passenger seat.
The little Teddy was very well - behaved. Only then did Wen Sining get into the driver's seat and start the car.
On the way, she deliberately drove slowly. She originally planned to go straight home, but then she remembered that the little Teddy had nowhere to live. So she drove to a pet store, bought a dog bed and some dog food, and then drove home.
After getting home, she settled the little Teddy down first and poured some dog food into a plate. The little Teddy seemed to be starving and gobbled it up.
"Slow down." Wen Sining was afraid that it would pull at its wound.
