The bug trapped in the yellow amber was slowly moving its dry wings bit by bit.
My face turned pale and my mind went blank.
Fatty and I had been through a lot of things. Ordinary minor troubles wouldn't scare us off so easily.
The reason we were so terrified was that we saw the change of the amber - colored object in A Jin's hand.
A tiny red bug was vibrating its wings slightly. The wings wriggled bit by bit, just like a newly - born fetus slowly stretching its originally shrunken body.
I really couldn't understand how this could happen. But obviously, one thing was for sure now: this bug was slowly coming back to life.
A Jin also knew that this was a very bad situation. First, he stood there with a grim face.
Fatty was the first to react. He picked up a cup nearby and was about to cover the bug with it.
However, by the time we truly realized something was wrong, it was already a bit late. The amber on the bug was starting to melt slowly.
"This stuff isn't amber at all," Fatty exclaimed in surprise. He grabbed me and was about to retreat out of the study, while A Jin instinctively tried to shake off the bug in his hand.
But in the blink of an eye, when all of us realized the severity of the problem, the bug crawled directly onto A Jin's hand.
It had gone from being like a specimen to this state in just a few seconds. The bug's pair of small red eyes were darting around.
I found a lighter nearby with a grim face. Without looking, I picked up an old picture album, lit it, and threw it in the direction where the bug had landed.
A Jin reacted quickly. He lunged forward and tried to deal with the area where I had thrown the burning album. The bug flapped its wings and landed on the ground, as if trying to take off again.
But probably because it had just woken up, it couldn't fly for the moment. The flames on the ground crackled as they burned.
"We've solved it for the time being," I said coldly, looking at A Jin's pale face. A bad feeling welled up in my heart. I tentatively asked A Jin what had happened.
A Jin showed me his hand with a bitter smile. "What do you think?"
I stared at the wound on A Jin's hand with a solemn expression. What should we do?
I reached out and grabbed A Jin's arm, examining it closely. A red wound on the arm was spreading rapidly, like a thin red thread moving upwards bit by bit.
The speed was so fast that it was unexpected. Without saying a word, Fatty took out a machete nearby and chopped off A Jin's arm with a "snap".
I didn't even have time to react. I stared at Fatty with my mouth wide open in disbelief.
Fatty forced a smile. "Look at what that is."
A Jin didn't stop Fatty. He had understood one thing from the start. When Fatty was about to chop, he simply offered his arm without hesitation.
With a snap, blood spattered everywhere. Some people outside the door noticed something was wrong. When they pushed the door open, Fatty was already holding A Jin's severed palm in one hand.
Those people looked grim. They thought Fatty had suddenly gone crazy and was going to kill someone. Without saying a word, they were about to pounce on him.
A Jin waved his intact hand. His face was pale and he looked in pain. "Hurry up and take me to the hospital. This thing is poisonous," he said, pointing at the blackened palm in Fatty's hand.
Was it really like this?
If Fatty had been a few seconds later, the toxin in A Jin's hand might have spread to his heart.
Both Fatty and I knew better than anyone what would happen to those bitten by the bug.
I suddenly thought of Yan Yan. How had Yan Yan died so quickly after being poisoned?
That man had suddenly appeared in my life and left just as abruptly. I wasn't even prepared. I just watched him leave me little by little.
I rubbed my head with a headache and turned to leave. The waiter nearby didn't dare to stop me. He watched me warily from a distance.
I glanced at the waiter and said with a half - smile, "What's that look on your face? It seems like you're a bit unhappy."
The waiter whispered, "Of course we follow the boss's orders. But the boss isn't here now. You should at least give me an explanation."
I shook my head, patted the waiter on the shoulder, and sighed. "I don't know where my second uncle is. If you really want to know, just save A Jin first."
I didn't know what was going on with my second uncle, and the current situation was obviously not something a junior like me could interfere in.
I suddenly had a bold idea. If possible, could we go to a place we shouldn't go with A Jin?
A few of us drove to the hospital. Sure enough, the doctor detected a special kind of bacteria on the severed arm.
It was indeed deadly, and even after the arm was cut off, the harm to A Jin couldn't be easily repaired.
A Jin was lying on the hospital bed, looking at us with a pale face. In just a few seconds, he had gone from a young man to a cripple who had lost his palm.
No matter what happened in the future, he would never be a whole person again. Looking at A Jin lying on the bed, I felt extremely uncomfortable. I always had a sense of guilt.
If I hadn't come to find my second uncle today and hadn't given this thing to A Jin, would things have turned out like this?
"You don't need to blame yourself too much. I'm fine. Since I entered this line of work, I've been prepared to risk my life," A Jin understood what I was thinking. He sighed and smiled helplessly, then took out his phone and sent me something.
I felt a bit guilty looking into A Jin's eyes. "How did you know I wanted to ask you about this?"
A Jin sighed. "My young master, you're really bad at lying. You've really been protected too well by the boss. You don't even know how to hide your thoughts at all. If you want to enter this circle without anyone to protect you in the future, you'll be eaten up sooner or later."
"I don't even want to enter this circle. If it weren't for what he said, I'd be fine going back to be the boss of my small shop."
"You can't blame Second Master. He's in this situation out of desperation," A Jin hesitated for a moment when he saw my strange expression. Finally, he lowered his head and sighed.
Seeing A Jin's reaction, I frowned in confusion. "What do you mean? What do you mean he didn't want it to be like this?"
A Jin stared into my eyes and whispered, "I hope you can understand clearly that this matter isn't as simple as you think. If you really think we must get involved in this mess, then go ahead."
